Edited by: Dumbledore CaIrissian on 30/12/2010 14:01:29 We all know and accept that eve is a harsh game. That's a large part of makes it great, and realistic, and makes things really matter in the game. But when they provide an outside of the game tool to grief its customers I think it goes a little bit to far. CCP enable killmails which make killboards possible.
These mail don't ever say "oh it was lag" "oh I fell asleep" "oh that was stupid mouse slipped" "just made a mistake." They just say lolol look at this n00b got popped.
For all eternity on this day at this exact time. We have made a permanent record of this persons failures.
That isn't even in the game. CCP are griefing us out of game. This isn't just about those cases where you have to have a good kb it's also just about.. what the hell. I dont need to keep seeing this loss.
It's like
You wake up one morning Log on to eve and decide to do some minning or pvp When your half asleep still someone either flips your can or catches you on a lowsec gate. Blargh you die for whatever reason. 5 years later you look up your character
Suddenly CCP pops out of a bush
"lolololol remember noob you ****ing suck"
That is pretty hardcore player harassment done by CCP.
Discuss.

Anyone that cares about what killmails entail, has an obvious mental deficiency, CCP cannot be blamed for alot of playerbase being very sad lonely boring people. Its the same with all mmos, thing like KMs and arena give rubbish lifeless people something to shout about.

So your arguing that's why they should stay? Not understanding what you're saying.

For me, killboard is a good thing. Since my character is a month old and I've already lost 4 ships and 1 pod, it's like a filter that gets away from me most of the people I don't want to be with.
I'm here to have fun, meet people, learn, grow up as a capsuler and take a rest from real life... I don't want to fall into any creepy elitist corp with elitist people talking elitist and doing elitist stuff. Killboard isn't a problem per se, but the people who take it too seriously do have a problem.

EVE is a game. Games generate stats. Many people enjoy those stats. Some people play primarily because they like to track those stats. Stats are not inherently a bad thing. People getting too worked up, one way or another, over stats can be a bad thing. None of the above remotely approaches being a reason to do away with the stats created by playing EVE.

I propose that any killmail which comes from a Dumbledore death be broadcast to all of Eve. This should fix the problem of not enough sadism from CCP developers. In other words, the squeaky wheel should get the whip.

Nobody is forcing you to look at your killboard stats.

Edited by: Cyaxares II on 30/12/2010 15:34:21 nothing lightens the spirits of new pilots you are trying to teach like giving them links to your own horrible newbie mistakes.
Way nicer to teach them about fail fittings using your own lossmails than bashing them for their mistakes (and sometimes you might even throw in a small "how do patches change fittings? why wouldn't this fitting work today? how do I detect outdated fittings on forums/battleclinic?" lecture).
Don't see the problem - everybody will understand that newbies make horrible mistakes and if you have 5 years worth of good kills that few "embarassing" losses should neither bother you nor anyone else.
-> if you care about your killboard stats, take some time to polish them and get a few dozen good kills & losses to push the more embarassing losses way out of sight; if you don't care your complaint doesn't make sense.

Why do people care so much about killmails?
I got blown up on Jita once (due to my laziness) and lost around 60 million ISKs. I wasn't ****ed at the guy, though a little sad (not much, just a little). He then mailed me that I had done improper parking on the sobaseki portal on Jita, and had "impounded" my starship.
I lol'ed real hard at that email. xD
Killmails only matter if you care.

You could just as well state that CCP also implemented the means for their customers to be overly sadistic to CCP. These forums. |

@OP: Just because you get a KM doesn't mean you have to read it. There is a magic button on your EVE-mail called "delete"...use it.

By this argument, Killmails are also an reminder of your success, Think about it.
It's like
You wake up one morning Log on to Eve and decide to do some PvP When you're half drunk still someone either baits you, or jumps into your camp. Damn, you gank for whatever reason. 5 years later you look up your character
Suddenly CCP pops out of a bush
"Remember dude, when you straight up Pwned?"
P.S. I yielded to temptation and checked your stats on Battleclinic and kill.net. But I didn't find anything.

Does anyone really care?
When you are dead is anyone going to put your KB stats on your tombstone?
KB stats are so open to abuse and manipulation anyway that they can't be trusted 100% as it is. Personally, I never use them at all, I'm here to enjoy the game and play it, not rack up some statistics to demonstrate the size of my bratwurst... |

Sadistic? Maybe... Overtly? No.
I've played 3.5 years and couldn't care less about killmails. Some folks need them to massage their egos, I guess, I'm just interested in what I'm doing the next time I log on.
