Have a safe spot ready to warp your pod to. Beware of large smartbombs.

Well I can comment on all 3 categories but I will focus on duels. In a duel you need to setup youÆre frigate to best utilize youÆre skills. Another good thing is to workout the optimal attack/defense tactic. I personally prefer to use a Kessie in duels because of itÆs damage output. (360kin damage per salvo ).
My Setup
High 4x Standard
Med MWD/AB Webber Variable 1*
Low Variable 2*
Now with this setup I leave Variable 1 open to what I would need. E.g. a sensor dampener or a tracking disruptor to add that little extra to youÆre setup. Variable 2 is open for what you need/want to make the Meds and Highs more effective, E.g. Ballistic control units for more damage or overdrives for more speed.
Duel tactic
The aim of the game is to keep your opponent at armÆs length because if he gets close he will rip it off. However if you are facing a sniper donÆt be afraid to get in close. Missiles are a great weapon for frigs, as they have no optimal range and deal the same amount of damage every time they hit. But the trick is to increase that chance of a hit. Try to get youÆre opponent to come to you or do a flyby webbing. The latter will mostly spell death for youÆre opponent while the former should be your opening tactic.

Frigates have 3 mail roles: - Tackling (Scrambler and Web) - Anti-frig (web and dmg) - Scouting
You can also mix them with some EW for a fast gank.
Well though the majority of my skills are based on frigates, I avoid flying them. With Heavy NOS totaly killing anything below BS, I'm training up dreadnought skills atm. (Jump Drive, lvl up BS skill, etc) So unless they decide to nerf the NOS (add sig radius maybe), you dont have much chance surviving.

One on one in frig combat I'd argue the effectiveness of using a mwd/ab in a mid slot.
The first thing every frig pilot does in 1v1 is to fit a webber - effectively you can't our run the tracking or missiles webbed. From that view point I'd bin 'em - you are wasting a midslot. Only risk is that the opponent will out distance you with long range weapons/light missiles. Thats purely pre-arranged duals. If you're hunting/ganking frigs then use one.
For ganking - if you mean purely out damaging you opponent very quickly - incrusus is the king. Only thing is you need to park it on your opponent. People rate kestrals - but you know they've 4 light missiles - and that can be countered very easily.
As for ganking with frigs - you ain't gonna out do a gankageddon or a raven - frigs have to be close.
Alot depends on what ship you're facing in 1v1. If they have a traditional set up - find it on these boards - then you can counter. ie long range v's a close range incursus. Rocket launchers with defenders against the traditional Kestral with standards is an auto winner.
If you're facing something shield or armour tanking no's/cap drainers come into their own - not so useful against missile/proj ships.
In fleet work - watch for elite frig such as inties/assault. Destroyers will also mess you up big style.
Again setups for fleet conflicts for frigs are specific to the role you intend to carry out. Are you a tackler - if so forget damage - go for survivability - rifter/vigil is good. If its a roving frigate wolf pack - sometimes the frig has to be the main damage dealer - incursus and kestral. There are also ew option for frigs right now. Yeah I know the bb is THE EW cruiser - but ew stacks - and again for a frig wolf pack using the 6au warp speed 2-3 frigs can do the same job the way ew stacks vigil ain't bad, niether is the kessy or the griffin.
One races ships I haven't mentioned is the Amarr - I personally think they are too slow for fleet work - so they are a rare sight. A great little armour tanker - but you ain't gonna tank an enemy fleet. One useful ship here is the punisher. It can run 4 smarts and an mwd - and stabalise cap. Very nice to remove hostile missiles if you park it on the enemy ship. I like that set up - can be used for some nasty suprises.
Its oddities like that that I like - my interest when solo hunting other frigs is seeing a well establised character engage me in some odd frig... I know they've got something up their sleeve. The rest of the time - I generally know how a fight is going to go straight after the 1st shot is fired. Ruddy annoying when you know you've got it wrong and you going down - and there isn't a thing you can do about it.
