Well, I've read one post that had a similar idea, but didn't quite fit because Learning point were still in play then. Here's my 'polished' remake of it.
Idea: To be able to remap a reasonable amount of SP once per year (like the neural remap).
Reason: Most (if not all) EVE players have skill points that they have spent their time training, only to realize that down the road, it was a mistake to train for a certain skill. Example: "Amarr Freighter IV complete" Go out, buy a freighter, and then decide it's not worth it. You've just spent a few weeks of your EVE time on nothing...
How it could be: Included alongside the neural remap, would be a learning/SP/logic remap, pick your term. Cap the amount relearnable at 2.5 or 5 million. That's roughly one to two months of training time with the new skillpoint distribution. Only usable once per year.
If all 12 months are trained in, it would approximate to 22-23 million SP. The 2.5 mil cap would be about 10% return of SP per year. OR The 5 mil cap would be about 20% return of SP per year. OR Be able to remap 10-20% (or whatever percent) of your total skillpoints... This is probably more work than ease, so iffy on this option. Debatable points: Maybe code it like the free skillpoints, but instead of a positive to the SP's you make it a negative, adding to the spendable SP? Not a programmer, so just a stab in the dark as to that.
Should it be so that you have to choose either the neural remap or the SP remap once per year? So a new character could either have 2 neurals, or 1 neural/1SP, or 2 SP (waste of a neural imo)
What the remapable SP cap should be. Don't be greedy and say above 5-6 mil... No reason to be able to remap 5 months worth of training. Or should it be a percent of your total?
Once you use the SP remap, you can not have any 'leftovers' AKA: You can't remap 2 mil SP one day, and then remap 3 mil the next. You'll get 2 mil remaped, and then have to wait another year.
Would love to hear from many people on this, get it some attention!
Yes, I'm a non-main character spokesperson.

This is one of those ideas that would make everyone individually happy but collectively angry.
That is to say, it would make the game substantially more fun to play (training is not fun), but it would also make people rage about "rabble rabble I spent x months investing in important internet spaceship stuff, why should you be able to play like me" etc.
Just like learning skills.
Also, CCP probably would rather you keep paying them for x months longer to get your new ships. This is the real reason skill remaps will never happen.
Well, that and people who think fun is a sign of weakness. |

No, this is EVE not WoW.
In EVE if you make a mistake you deal with the consequences. Thats part of the core of the game.
I don't know what you trained that you decided you didn't like but tough, deal with it. -The sword is only as sharp as the one who wields it. Drenzul (My normal internet tag) |

It has nothing to do with being hardcore and everything to do with it being a redundant 'feature'.
I don't see the answer to the first question that always precede a proposal: Why?
- Unless one has several million SP in skills one really doesn't want then what is the point? - Even if one had that "problem", why would it have to be an annual remap thing, do you intend to train useless skills again? - Were it to be implemented, what price should be attached to it (attrib remaps cost SP in all unrelated areas for instance)?
Here is a "cost" for you: When takesy-backsy points from any skill the rank of that skill goes up by one - permanently (ie. forever and ever). Better make damn sure you want those 200k SP ASAP !

No, no, and no.
I said it before and I'll say it again... being allowed to remap your SP will homogenize the ships and fits that people use for various activities.
Remember, there is no limit to what you can train. Training up to be a miner does not close off the combat skill tree and vice versa. All you have "lost" is time. _______________________

loled,
why the he** do you want to remap your skillpoints??? Everything you trainw ill pay out, sooner or later.
I have personally trained first for a hulk for 3 months, and then decided to go for pvp, so i've not been in a barge for months.... and i am not whining, i just know, if i need to fly one i can fly one.

Well, I'd actually be in favor of a limited remap of some kind... with the kicker of course that you can use it at best once per year, and only remap a small portion of your SP. This is certainly enough to stop people from jumping on the bandwagon to exploit a recent trend to exploit some new weakness, be they nano ships, or whatever. The time frame is long enough to prevent "abuse" of the system.
I got an old char, who has tried to do everything. Mining, shipping, refining, manufacture, invention, PI, missions, pvp, amarr ships, matari ships, lasers, missiles, drones, projectiles, ewar, tackling, probing, exploration, gas mining... Yeah great. I tried everything. I can do everything, to a very limited extent. Another way to see it is that I have 16 million skill points, and I can't do ANYTHING well. If I could just remap 10-20% of my skillpoints, just once in my career, I'd feel a whole lot happier.
I don't see any way that it could cause any problem. Some people just don't have enough focus to keep training for one goal for years. Wouldn't be so bad to let us correct some of our impulsive mistakes once in a while. I suppose some of those with a great long term focus could feel they are losing their edge, when scatterbrains like me can refocus their training but... it's a game. We are here to have fun. Don't be selfish.

i really do not understand whats the point.... invest the time and then benefit, i have 14 mil SP, and i am still happy with it, where 3 mil of it is in industrie, and i even do not know how to invent or manufacture something.
you cant sai, ok i vent 8 years to school to becoma a software devloper, and now BOOOM i am a austronaut....

Well, that's the beauty of a game... you can say that. And no one is asking for a PhD in applied physics to become an education in massage and aroma therapy. We are merely asking to exchange that one class in string throry for one in nuclear physics.

It is less of a problem now that attributes have been equalized, but there is still some.
In addition to what I wrote earlier, it gives the "option" for a person to max out 2 attributes, train with those two exclusively (PER/Will for example) and then refund 'trash' skills trained at absolute maximum speed to put SP into harder-to-train skills (read: those that don't warrant a full attribute remap). End result is a considerably faster overall increase in skills across the board (dependent on #SP to reallocate).
Sure it would be nice to do, I think I can probably sc**** together a million or so junk SP, but the rest are either in use or will probably be used down the road.
Where I could see it having tremendous value is on the tail end of the tutorials .. when the poor noob has jumped all the hoops Aura put in front him and he has skills all over the place. Would be nice gesture to allow him to put them where he believes they'll serve him best in the hard couple of months post-trial when people normally quit because "there is nothing to do".
