I recently decided to renew my EVE because I got into some money again, but when I tried to run my client, it told me I needed a new one. So thinking "no problem" and downloaded and installed a new client. But it crashed, repeatedly. I tried the offline installer with the same results. Here is the error my machine is giving me.
CCP ExeFile has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience
AppName: exefile.exe AppVer: 6.31.2.38691 ModName: msvcr80.dll ModVer: 8.0.50727.4053 Offset: 000150f4
Can somebody help please? The game worked fine a few months ago before I quit.

I've been getting the same but slightly different problem. I have reinstalled EVE on a brand new computer. I can login and select my character, starts to enter the game world gets to 80% and crashes. When it crashes is says the same thing "CCP ExeFile has encountered a problem and needs to close". My ModName is different though, vivoxsdk.dll. This seems to be related to EVE voice from my research on the internet. I can't disable it because I cant login with my character, I have tried editing my prefs.ini to disable it to no avail.
I have run repair, I have run in safe mode, I have reinstalled Windows 7 THREE times. All drivers are up to date, all updates installed. PLUS much more that I cant even remember right now.
I can login on my laptop with no problems but 17in is not the same as 32in :)
I have opened a petition, but would like to see if anyone else has had this issue and has found a workaround.
Thanks,

I just found out a new piece of info from this. It's probably an issue on the server side because the game works fine when my internet is disabled, but as soon as I connect, the game goes down. I really think this is an issue that CCP has to fix. So help me please CCP. I don't want to miss getting a Echelon

The problem has nothing to do with the server. When you are not connected to the internet, the game cannot check to see if all of its files are correct, so it doesn't crash. When you are connected, it checks the files and then stops, giving you the error.
I would suggest uninstalling the game and then rebooting the computer. Log in as the administrator account (not just an administrator-level account, but the actual administrator account). Download and install the full EVE client. Reboot again. Proceed normally and try EVE.
If all else fails, go buy the Commissioned Officer Edition box and install it from there. At least that way you won't have to download so much from the internet. ----- Marcel "M'pact" Paquet Greater impact than a planet-killing asteroid strike. |

Re-install VS2008 redist and see if that fixes the problem (msvcr80 = microsoft visual C++ runtime) (32-bit / 64-bit)

I was about to say it looks like a corrupt or incorrect dll. There are like 5 versions of most common dll's.
I would uninstall eve then delete its folder. I would then update windows, reinstall eve and see if it works after that.

My machine is alwasy logged as admin, but I may take your suggestion and buy the game box. Hopefully if CCP puts out another new client, I won't have to deal with this crap again.
