Originally by: Cergorach Let me guess, you'll have to redo the portrait before you can actually log in with a character. That is going to be a pain for folks doing PI/research/production. (I probably will have to do 10 portraits)
Is there some import option (import old portrait settings to use new system)?
That would be an incorrect guess. You are asked if you want to open the character creator, select no and you go straight into the game.
Also if you have 10+ alts, you can just start the character creator, hit randomize a few times (top left hand side), hit save and be done with it.
Hehe. That is on sisi for testing yes. Want to bet that when it gets deployed they make it mandatory so that in a meeting they can show how many people made awesome new portraits as evidence of awesomeness?
They keep avoiding the question, I hope CSM asked it for the recent meeting, because it makes a hell of a difference whether you can bypass it to do it later, or whether you get forced to deal with it and if something is not as you wanted (because you had a fleet op or something else to attend, or fun to be had) you'll end up having to shell out a plex or two in an upcoming microtransactions iteration several expansions later.
Mashie Saldana is correct, you don't have to enter the character creator on first login. People may want to log in quickly to update their skill queue or their PI programs or whatever, and they should be able to take the time to properly play with the character creator when they have the time.

Originally by: Hawk TT Good clarification, despite the fact this was obvious from the SiSi builds...
What will be the "grace period" for not-renewing your character portrait? I guess CCP has some deadline in mind, so after the deadline it would be mandatory to recreate the portrait, right?
Yes there will be a point in time after which it will be obligatory to create a new character. It is not set in stone yet when that will be, but probably after a month or so.

Originally by: Particul I play Eve to play at Internet Spaceships. I have no interest in playing Character Creator Online (I could go play STO if I wanted that). Hopefully we can just log in, hit randomize, accept whatever comes up and never have to bother with it again.
Yes you can do that, you can hit one button to randomize everything, then go straight to the picture booth and get the portrait shot, and you're done.

As Bella Bee already confirmed there will be a grace period of around one month. The end-date will be announced when we know it and with enough notice for players to react. During the grace period players will be able to log into the game without having to go through the new character creator. As Bella Bee also pointed out, for those of you with alts whose appearance doesn't matter to you, there is the randomize option to allow you to speed through the process.
On the topic of more options, we really wanted to have tattoos out in this release but for various reasons we had to postpone them. Work is now underway to get tattoos as well as scars, piercings and more glasses in the game. In the next release we plan to introduce the option to re-customize your character from within the game to take advantage of all the new options. Expect to see more and more options coming in future releases. We have a lot of things we would love to see and we will be using feedback from this and other threads to help us make decisions on what we put in and when.

Originally by: Deviana Sevidon I hope the issues with the server renderings are fixed.
Last time I checked the server renderings could be quite different from what was created on client.
If you have your client on low quality graphics setting, then unfortunately the outcome of the server rendering can potentially be somewhat different. This is because with the low quality settings you don't see the shadows and the full textures that play quite an important role in the final outcome. The only way to really avoid this completely is to stop supporting the lower quality graphics cards but we didn't want to do that just yet.

Originally by: John McCreedy I don't know if you guys at CCP are aware of this or if anyone has mentioned it but the latest copy of PC Gamer UK has a big article on Eve and cites this character creator as by far the best there is out there or on the current horizon for any game
Thanks, yes we're aware of it

Apologies, I don't think I communicated the issue properly. The problem is not the inability of my video card to render the pictures properly but rather that sometimes the server renderings creates a result that is different from the original picture.
One issue seems to be that a selection of a long hair type in the client seems to be rendered sometimes as a very short hair by the server. Page 2 of the Test-Server thread as a few examples of these: Linkage
Please take a look at the the client rendering here, pictures were created with a Geforce FX480 and all graphic settings at high.
Client Server
The hair colour choice is most obvious difference. But the skin-tone is also slightly different and the eyebrows have the default colour instead of the one that matches the hair.
Thanks for the clarifications, I believe those issues should be resolved by now. If you're still experiencing issues like this then we would very much appreciate that you report them and include images of client and server rendering.
