I'd like to know if it's me or is it a game bug, had several times this happen to me. Last time it happened while i was on 2 account flying SB, both of them got decloaked and almost killed while idling in separate safe spots off the gate. |

I had similar incidents some times a while ago where my cloak dropped without any reason on jump in, however I'm not certain what it was. Maybe its a bug or it was simply my faults, dunno.

A corpmate had this yesterday, got decloaked 100km off of a POS, got his cov ops popped. Petitioned, dunno if any response yet.
Usual 'random' decloaking in w-space is due to passing the deadspace sig which can be 5-10km off of a wormhole, but you can find it if you mouse over space around the thing. Always on the plane AFAIK. |

I've seen some ships where the cloaking device can eventually cap the ship out.

Edited by: Daneel Trevize on 07/01/2011 19:27:26 Cov ops cloak doesn't use cap. It therefore won't even turn off if you cap out from warping around.
Damn it, no cloak uses cap. |

It happened to me twice within a few days. Both at unfortunate times, if it matters to mention. I then spent a whole week (slight exaggeration here) afk cloaked at a SS but it never happened again. vOv

It happens to me every now and then. In high sec it usually isn't fatal. In null sec, it tends to get me killed. I've usually chalked it up to me not noticing when I drifted too close to some debris, but it's hard to be sure. Some kind of in-game message about why you decloaked would be great.
I hate when I warp cloaked and fly through a planet, which drops me off at a gate or someplace completely visible and I don't even realize it until it's too late.

Can bodies still de-cloak? I know they can prevent cloaking. As that may be a reason.

^ This. It could also be something else you have removed from your overviews or don't have brackets showing for.

There has been a bug in existence for several years with the cloaks. It's not common at all, not reproducible, therefore it doesn't exist according to CCP.
Good luck proving that, or getting a response to petitions because... the logs, of course, show nothing.
Yes, there's lots of stuff out there people commonly leave off their overview's which can decloak you. Unfortunately, many (including CCP from my own experience) presume from this that all similar events were due to LOL Fail.
Bug exists (rarely) CCP is in denial on it because it's hard to replicate, and lots of people actually have legitimate decloak experiences without realizing it.
Deal with it.... it's not changing anytime soon.

Edited by: Tsabrock on 13/01/2011 16:44:27 I agree, this is not a new bug, but a very old bug. I had this happen once years ago, when flying through a gatecamp. This was back before we had the customizable Overview that we have today, so everything that could show-up was showing-up. However something decloaked my little Cheetah and next thing I knew, I was dead. I even had a friend watching me play over my shoulder, and neither of us saw anything get close-enough to the ship that could have caused me to decloak.
A couple weeks after that incident, I had something very similar happen(fortunately in a safer area). My ship did a little "fishtail", like it bumped into an invisible object, while flying-around somewhere in lowsec. With it being a safe system, I flew back on a reverse course and even scrutinized the area in-depth, but could find no evidence of any item there, and no further erratic "fishtails" or collisions.
In the years since, I've had no other cloak failures that I couldn't since explain. I hadn't even thought-about those past incidents until reading this thread.
My old speculation was that, in very rare instances, the client or server thinks there's an object near your ship and behaves as such, but being there really was nothing there, nothing is actually logged and you are left with only the results of the "phantom collision" (ship decloaking, course being altered slightly, etc). I've always wanted to see better logging (at least client-side) of cloaking activations/deactivations, but obviously we never got anything. --- If you've read something I posted and want to contact me, EVE-Mail me, or contact me via EVE Gate. |

I think it is a bug, maybe something to do with communication between client and server.
I've decloaked for no reason before once or twice. My friends have aswell, but its something quiet rare.

Decloaking without cause happened to me on 4 to 5 occasions over the past 3 years. Given my location at the time, the chance that I was decloaked by an object such as a frozen body are so astronomically small that it seems impossible to me to eliminate all of the instaces in question by citing the "LOL fail" factor, so to speak.

Yeah, I've had my CovOps decloak mid-warp, decloak with nothing withing 100km, etc. Figure it's just another bug that won't be fixed, and petitioning it is pretty useless since it can't be easily replicated. Just have to live with it, like all the other bugs.
