Edited by: Seraph Castillon on 10/01/2011 13:20:29 I want to fit a cruiser (T1) specifically to take out BC's. Vexor, Rupture, whatever works. Mostly because it's easier to get (solo) fights if they think they'll have an easy time killing you.
My biggest problem is mitigating damage. Kiting vs a close orbit.
Blaster ships are easy: stay out of web/scram range, kill drones and win.
Harbingers you can still kite, but they hit up to ~23km with Scorch. So you'd be kiting with an overheated point.
Hurricanes ... I'm not sure how to handle these. They get 30km falloff with Barrage and although there's no web to worry about, there are 2 Medium Neuts that will cap you out as well as 2 Tracking enhancers.
Drakes ... well, missiles hurt, so I'd best stay away from these.
Does orbiting with a MWD work or will the sig bloom get you killed? Do AB fits even go fast enough (after web) to cause any tracking issues?

Tracking disruptors will help a lot, especially since you intend to avoid drakes anyway. ~

Yeah, ... not only would a Cynabal be counter productive for the getting solo fights purpose, it would also cost 10 times as much and thus be 10 times less oops proof.

I agree tracking disruptors seem most promising. The problem is many of the main cruisers only have 3 mids. So you have mwd disruptor and point. Active armor tank usually likes a cap booster (midslot) and a buffer tank slows you down. Speed might be a real problem especially with hurricanes.
I'm also thinking that if you do some of these fits you may end up with some embarrassing losses to frigates that catch you and get under your guns. -Cearain

Hmm.. I've always wanted to try a vexor with a AB/scram/TD against a BC. Using small guns and drones means tracking isn't an issue :)

I used to play around with a Med Rail fit/Shield Tanked Vexor and was attempting to use it against BC's. The problem I ran into, is pretty much what you already mentioned.
Trying to kite them the Harbi can still hit you as well as the Cane. It was a fun ship to fly but overall couldn't do what it was intended to do.
Tracking Disruptors are likely the only way to do it and if that's the case you might as well use a ship that has bonus for them and that's the Arbitrator.
The Arbi will work, but it's DPS is very low, so you better hope he doesn't have friends, which tends to be rare.

The sig bloom and the inability to hold absolute top speed while orbiting will almost entirely negate the speed gain from the MWD, in therms of missile damage received. You may see a slight decrease in missile damage, but don't count on it being enough to keep you alive.
With an AB and being webbed, you may mitigate something like 15-30% of the missile damage. So for this to work, you need to make sure that your target doesn't have a web, whereupon you could mitigate somewhere around 60% of the missile damage.

This. I've popped a couple of Harbingers solo and they can't do any significant damage. Cane is a different matter and for a Drake you'll probably want dual prop.

Thorax or Vexor, some guns plus 5 x EC-600s. Hope for the best. Can kills drakes if done well. Rupture, TD, scram plus 4 x 180mm plus med and small nos. Avoid Drakes Arbitrator, 2 x nos, 2 x neuts, TDs, 5 x Hammerhead. Avoid Drakes.

Get them to agress you on low-sec gate for max dps from gate guns.
Shield tanked max dps Thorax with ec-600's. Pray for the best.
And I bet a max tanked 3-td, max ec- drone Celestis would work too if you had the balls to try to pull it off.

Yeah, the Vexor and Thorax can both get serious blaster damage (around 400 DPS with Neutrons), but leaving your entire tank in the hands of a couple of ECM drones ... dunno. It's worth a try though.
The standard LSE Rupture should be able to take out Gallente and Amarr BC's, but probably not Hurricane/Drakes due to not being able to out range them. A 1600mm Plated Vexor with a long range point and a TD would have the same problems with Canes and Drakes due to simply not being able to kite them. The other two races should, again, not cause too much trouble.
So yeah, I guess I'll try a kamikaze blasterboat. How about this:
[Thorax, Shield] Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Magnetic Field Stabilizer II Damage Control II Tracking Enhancer II Tracking Enhancer II
Warp Scrambler II Large F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive

Your best for an all-around setup against turret BCs are the ewar cruisers as they have the needed slot layout for TD, injector, longpoint and MWD.
Arbitrator, Celestis, Bellicose (in that order).
Stay at the edge of point range, kill drones first, watch like a hawk for them overheating their MWD.
That said, why not just bring a friend in a 2nd cruiser, most people will still engage that in a BC, alternatively bait with one cruiser and then bring the 2nd in.

Not the way I'd go with a Blackbird, besides it won't fit, the Bay loading accelerator and the Warhead Calefacation Catalyst used all your calibratioon points.

All the above and hope they suck because a BC is going to have 2-3 times your tank and it's guns will track you just fine while having 2-3 times your dps, they have more slots giving them more flexibility for their own ewar or counters and generally more cap as well as being more likely to pack nasties like neuts.
Not saying it can't be done after all I've had my ass kicked by a cruiser in while BC before. But that was about 20mil sp ago by a very experienced pilot.
There is a reason why most BC pilots are more than willing to engage 2 cruisers after all.

Not all solo fights involve the other party being willing. Also I'm sorry but except for a very narrow set of circumstances you will not be beating a hull size higher than you on a budget. They have more EHP, more DPS, and more range. Even tech 2's have a time beating a hull size higher. (Check the vaga vs. cane thread)
Now a BC killing a tier higher, now THAT we can have a serious conversation about.

Or put your money up and by a proper BC.

I'd put my money on the Arbitrator:
It has bonussed drones (and can carry alot) You can keep high's for neuts, it has mids for and bonuses to tracking disruptor's and can fit a very decent armor buffer. It's basicly a pilgrim without a cloak, neut bonus and less buffer. Something like this would work well if you land in range:
[Arbitrator, E-war arbi] Damage Control II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I
Tracking Disruptor II 10MN Afterburner II Medium Electrochemical Capacitor Booster I, Cap Booster 800 Warp Scrambler II
Small Unstable Power Fluctuator I Small Unstable Power Fluctuator I Small Unstable Power Fluctuator I Small Unstable Power Fluctuator I
Medium Ancillary Current Router I Medium Trimark Armor Pump I Medium Trimark Armor Pump I
Hammerhead II x7 Warrior II x6 Vespa EC-600 x5
Or
[Arbitrator, E-war arbi 2] Damage Control II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II 800mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I
Tracking Disruptor II Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive Medium Electrochemical Capacitor Booster I, Cap Booster 800 Warp Disruptor II
Medium 'Gremlin' Power Core Disruptor I Small Unstable Power Fluctuator I Small Unstable Power Fluctuator I Small Unstable Power Fluctuator I
Medium Trimark Armor Pump I Medium Trimark Armor Pump I Medium Trimark Armor Pump I
Hammerhead II x7 Warrior II x6 Vespa EC-600 x5
You could possible drop the cap booster for a second TD but I wouldn't recommend it since you'd cap out fairly quickly and be screwed over if they have a neut.

Edited by: X Gallentius on 11/01/2011 16:32:38 The Thorax fit looks pretty decent. 1. Swap out the auxil thrusters for a core defence field extender (more tank). 2. Try to fit in a LSE II if you can (use PG4 implant, again more tank) 3. Get a ZGM1000 implant (+5% damage, dirt cheap) 4. Get a KZA implant (CPU reduction on hybrids, dirt cheap)

Na Arbi can do it, but you have to use a nano/shield tank set up and using range disruption staying at max range. Same tactic works with a Sentinel but you just have ****ty DPS.
With a TD bonused ship with the ship skill @ V and all TD related skills to IV's you can cut the rage of a Cane or Harbi down to around 6km. What you can't do is try to go the route of the Pilgrim and get up close and trying to using tracking speed disruption with a AB.
With the Arbi vs BC's you simply need to stay at range and let your ****ty DPS eventually kill him.
