Gamespot hates CCP , the last review they did was in 2003.

Maybe after Incarna goes out they can try to coax a re-review.

They hate most MMO's. The review they did for Eve was kind, compared to some others.

Every game review site has a bizarre fixation on consoles.

Its a good review and quite correct - but then again - some of us like the game and many (less and less as the game becomes more mainstream) dislike it.
Whats funney about that reivew and many other reviews of eve mae over the years remain true. . . -----------

Hardly surprising. They review games when they come out. When MMOs come out, they are pretty universally hate-worthy. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

i can't take mmo reviews seriously. there's just too much to do and learn and get situated in the game even in the first 6 months. you can't just review them the same way as some console game that's only made to hold your attention for 2 weeks. |

The real big sites like Gamespot review games shortly after release. This is detrimental to games that change over time like MMO's. When EVE was first released, it was buggy, feature poor, and catered to a small clique of hardcore fans. It has since grown and arguably gotten better (i don't want to start a debate among the long-timers) but since the big sites really only review a game once and then leave it, that initial damning score sticks forever. Every MMO they review is afflicted by this.
Look at the user scores, or search smaller sites that update their reviews as time goes on for more accurate reviews.
Of course Gamespot's policies are also in question, like the firing of a reviewer when certain titles that were paying the bills got bad reviews, so the overall ethics in place for the mega-sites are long gone. *********************************** InVictus Kell "Moral victories don't count..." *********************************** |

Well, that is real life. Money buys journalism. I guess it applies to game review websites. Nobody dares to bite the hands that feed to be honest. Those do, should be put to sleep. Period. --------- Technica impendi Caldari generis. Pax Caldaria!

Why does it matter?
I dont understand peoples anger towards reviews if you like the game then you like the game. Also the rage over 4-5 stars or 9.0 v. 9.5.... The **** does it matter? They already said the game was good.

IGN is actually overly-nice to most MMO's in my opinion. They gave absolutely terrible games fairly high scores (in the 80's) like Aion and such.

I just read the old review, it praised Eve's interface, sound, and graphics, while lambasting Eve's combat tactics...

Which I would state the combat was all Eve had in 2003, splash torps and such yay! But with its far reaching goals it has overcome many of the issues at release, like WTF mining in an IBIS for a day. I admit I left eve for a year or so but the hard core stuck with it and are handsomely rewarded for doing so I hope. I played in beta and starting out in Eve sucked but as it matured it got better and better and better. It was stabilized by the end of 2004 and a great game. Regardless of all the complaints this is without bashfulness the best Space MMO in the world and best PVP game in existence for people who love the more subtle parts of immersion.
