I've actually had an idea along these lines for awhile now, but with a different implementation.
I'd kind of like to see a remote emergency warp module - target another ship, zap it with the module, it warps 2 AU in the direction it's facing regardless of scramble on it (kinda like an inverse scripted warp disruption field generator). To reduce griefing, make it a hostile action - you can only do it to corpmates or someone else you have aggro rights on without being concorded (otherwise it becomes a "Weee, **** of the freighters!" button). It should also have the consequence of making the person who activates it unable to warp for 60 seconds.
I really have no idea if this is a good idea or not. Never thought it worth its own thread, but since something similar is here, might as well post it now.

What if you're already going full speed?
Well, originally I was thinking of it in terms of a stationary miner. But obviously, if you're already at full speed you will then be able to warp at the push of a button, which is no different to some of the ideas posted here by others, such as flying back and forth between bookmarks etc. I'm not making any excuses - this is meant as a quick getaway. But if you're stationary, you will need to speed up first.

Then press Ctrl+Space, and you'll sit still but remain facing that direction. If you need to leave, you have a point straight ahead, all you need to do is accelerate and warp. You can make the process even quicker, by targeting the rocks you mine, but clicking back onto the celestial last. Then it is the Selected Item, and a single button will warp you there.
2) If you need to GTFO while missioning... Set Destination for the system next door. Then remap your Autopilot to something like Alt+A. If you need to leave, hit those keys real fast, and your ship will automatically align and warp for the stargate.
3) If you need to GTFO in PvP... you're boned. You have been scram'd, and the only hope for survival is to kill them before they kill you.
The "lore" reason why we can't just warp, is because the navigational computer must have a (natural or artificial) gravity well to lock onto. So you can't just say "warp 1 AU straight ahead" or it'll bluescreen your ship's computer. =) |

Edited by: MarkyJ on 14/01/2011 18:13:15 It's been said enough times but what the hell; No.
In game workarounds have been proposed ranging from those requiring preparation and the ability to do two things at once (Checking Local and D-scan, selecting a celestial and aligning for warp the moment you see bad stuff on either) which will save your ass 9 times out of 10 to workarounds requiring very little effort at all but aren't quite as likely to work (the auto-pilot solution). Your problem isn't that the workarounds don't exist but that you can't be bothered to set them up and want the 'save your ass' method to be effortless and that goes against what I believe is one of EVEs main good points.
EVE rewards effort. In any form. You make the effort to get in the Hulk, your reward is the best mining platform in the game. Trader makes the effort in the 0.01 isk market games and he/she is rewarded with greater profit than if they undercut massively from the very start. PvPers hone their probing skills, their reward is they can find you much much quicker. PvEers pour millions (sometimes billions) of isk and a lot of training time into their ships and, well, the isk/hour speaks for itself for the creme de la creme of mission runners.
You want a feature which requires NO EFFORT AT ALL to give better results (saving your ship) than methods which require you to think ahead.
Why?

I can only see this as possibly viable in a mining situation although I would make it a module that launches a probe in the direction you are facing that you can lock onto and warp to as you would a friendly ship.
If people are complaining about hulks using this then you fail at PvP, the hulk takes more time to speed up than you need to target and scram.
Im really not for or against this concept since when I mine I align myself to something. You can even align yourself to a bookmark by canceling warp, this keeps anyone from following you since your the only one that knows where your bookmark is.

This actually does not work. When you're stationary the game does not know or care what direction you're facing as far as I know.

So because you're to LAZY to pre-align out while doing stuff and only having to click WTZ, you want that removed because you cba to do it....

You'll keep the direction on a plane (horizontally) but you'll steady out vertically. So as long as your direction is on that plane it'll work.

OMG STOP BEING SO USELESS! if youre pvping, the best thing to do to prevent abuse is to use warp jammers like always. this E-WARP system comes in handy when you're mining and you ge ambushed by players with bad standings. simple as that. its also handy against jump gate campers waiting to jump on you with HIGH SPEC WEAPONS SYSTEMS, and pop you where you are. think of the chances, either use the E-WARP BUTTON, or watch your ship, then your pod, be popped by noobs.

i was thinking to make the e-warp system auto-accelerate your ship to the minimum required speed needed to warp then auto warp like hell out of any situation requiring it. very simple, very efficient emergency system.
If you are an AFK miner being ambushed or a hauler stupid enough to jump blindly in a gate camp you are still PVPing. Just you are doing it poorly and suffering the consequences.
Since being able to prey on stupid people its an intended game feature your ideia its bad for EVE. Not supported.
