How come Mordu's standing toward me keeps climbing steadily, although I blast a bunch of their nifty ships into smithereens every time I get the Mordu Headhunters mission?
Are they friends with Caldari Navy or the Caldari state? Because that's who I'm doing missions for, exclusively.

weird but I got bether standings with the mordus legion than caldari state and I have only done missions for the caldari navy

Killing mission rats seems to have zero effect on faction standings.
What does affect them is Important Missions. When you do an important mission, you gain standing for:
The Corp you do the mission for.
The Faction that the corp you work for is in.
ALL factions that "Like" the faction the Corp you work for is in.
You lose standing for ALL factions that dislike the faction the Corp you are working for is in.

right click transactions on Mordus legion and you'll see exactly what corp is boosting your mordus standing.. in my case home guard raises it..

But the Gallente Federation and its military stopped sending me Christmas and birthday cards after I started to work for the Caldari Navy because my navy agents kept sending me to blow up Gallente military ships

The smaller the corp the bigger the standing increase or loss for important missions, ship kills, failed missions etc. I assume this is the same for factions as well. Since the Caldari State has Mordu's Legion at +9 and it is a tiny faction you end up getting a bigger standing for them through the derived modification than the Caldari State when you complete an important mission.
