It seems that a very common thing for cap pilots, is to self destruct when they know they are going to die. It is so they won't generate a killmail. This mechanic should be fixed. If they are engaged in combat (taking damage, being pointed, etc.) The killmail should be generated.

Why?
("I like to play with myself whilst reading killmails" isn't a valid reason fyi)

I think you should consider yourself lucky that a doomed cap pilot can't crash their ship into an enemy cap destroying both of them BSG-style. That'd make things "interesting".
KMs and obsession with them has always confused me.

If you can't come up with enough DPS to nuke a capital in less than 2 minutes then you obviously neither want nor deserve such a kill. Therefore, no support from me.

It denies the enemies intelligence on how the ship was fit, it denies them kill mails (epeen stroking), and it makes them ***** and whine on the forums.
Seems to me the current system is fine. --Vel

In general I agree but IMO a bit longer selfdestructtion timer for ships with bigger HP woldnt hurt.

As long as a commesurately smaller self-destruct timer existed for smaller ships, sure. 120 seconds would be about right for BS.

Has long has players cry on forums about killmails this only means that the game mechanic about seld destruction works fine and could be improved.
Wy? - has long has you run after killmails instead of fun "peeveepeeing" your just a pawn, a replacable unbrained pawn shooting everything on his overview for the sake of killmails.
You don't deserve any killmail or even better than 1 scrapmetal. You have 2min to take it down

Your about to go down. You got no back up, its too slow comming in or it was already destroyed. You have no hope, your enemy outsmarted you with a trap or you wandered were you shouldn't, doesn't matter as you cannot do anything. You invested alot of isk into this boat, but you don't want to give your opponent the satisfaction of looting it nor do you want to give them a kill mail. What do you do? Give them the ship (likely not going to happen) or self destruct it, knowing it will generate alot of hate and make them butthurt enough to suggest another topic on idea? I would go with option 2, as it seems to work everytime. Two minutes is way more then enough time, bring more back up or accept that someone lost something and you participated in that fact even though you cannot prove it.

Honestly, if cap ship destruction in Eve looked and acted like this (Youtube), I'd buy a dread/carrier every week just to do this with it.
