The Character Creator is nice, and I'm glad I was able to get my new avatar to look 85% of what I was hoping when I created my old avatar (and that one was only ~70%), but if the avatars are permanent (or require microtransactions to change), there needs to be a bit more transparency with the Character Creator.
1) I didn't try this out because I didn't want to risk it, but you have a "Next" button on the Customization screen that scares the bejeezus out of me. Please at least tooltip it so people know whether it advances you to the Portrait screen or completes the process.
2) An explanation is needed for the four snapshot concept. I don't recall it saying anywhere on the page that we'd only be able to keep one, or that the one we have highlighted is the one we keep. Perhaps I arrived at the wrong conclusion -- it looked like we'd be allowed to take four different portraits and switch as we please -- but for a conclusion it was hardly far-fetched given the lack of information. Given how small the snapshot previews were, it didn't seem like they were for the purpose of comparison. I was happy with all four snapshots, thankfully, but if I knew right there and then I'd only get to keep one (and wouldn't be prompted to confirm my choice), I may have made a different choice.
So amazing job on the Character Creator -- I could only wish other MMOs would have as advanced a character creation system -- but any decent interface designer would have noted the ambiguities. It would have been that much nicer without the "public outrage" you see here. =P

I think that there should be ingame cosmetic surgery, with the fee dependent on how much you change.

I have to agree here. I too thought we could select from the four so I didn't even bother to select the "best one".
While I am not unhappy with my character, I would like to redo the avatar snapshot. Too bad they just don't allow you to redo the snapshots, maybe once a week or something.
Anyway, I support this thread. :)

Seconded, specially when you have MANY PROBLEMS WITH DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CLIENT AND SERVER RENDERED PORTRAITS.
you give us an awesome tool to make our char portraits and then all gets lost on the way to the server, what a waste of time

A BEAUTIFUL character creator. The only problem we face is that now as we move towards Incarna we face a serious issue. EVE has always neglected the character portrait to focus on the ships themselves and the space combat. Every other MMO out there focuses on the character itself. Because of this, CCP has never found it viable to offer a constant option to change character visuals.
As Incarna is slowly becoming a reality we face that being able to retake portraits and redesign characters at a whim (a moderately priced in game ISK whim) will be a necessity. Apart from giving a redo to the thousands of players who just messed up their portrait due to learning a new and strange system of character design we uncover the reality that if the characters are going to move and interact with ship interiors or other characters, a 'make-over' option is essential.
PLEASE CCP, work towards a viable and realistic way that we can dress up these avatars at little beauty salons and clothing boutiques and retake out portraits at little photo studios.
I will still subscribe to this game regardless of if you do or not. I just beg you to consider the more ... aesthetically driven players.

Actually that's not a bad idea...make portrait re-do's cost a small amount for a few weeks(another good way to sink a little ISK in the game). ~LZ

Look at mine they gave you 4 shot and i thought you would be able to switch between them in-game so i created 1 normal everyday one and the three silly once AND IT TOOK THE LAST ONE AND I SPENT AGES MAKING THIS CHAR AND THEN ITS INSTANTLY RUINED

It's not easy to make a good portrait. The poses are really bad and mostly just make your shoulders look scrunched up 
It is a nice little teaser of things to come in Incarna.. where we'll hopefully be able to customize our appearance to our heart's desire.
