WOW! Thanks for the support people.
We cause enough stir within the establishment to force CCP to react (See Announcement from CCP Fallout)
I always wanted to lead a revolution and start a threadnought. Thanks for allowing me to cross both off my EVE Bucket list!
Again thanks for the support and hope all you ugly people out there enjoy your 2nd chance! ^_^

And for the future reference you can preview the local rendered (un-antialiased) snapshot in 512x512 res, in Win7 systems:
C:\Users\"your username"\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\d_games_eve_tranquility\cache\Pictures\Portraits
From here open the "PortraitSnapshot_x.jpg" pictures. |

You didn't bother to read the linked announcement? Here, let me emphasize the important part for those tl;dr crowd:
"In the next few days we are going to give everyone who has already customized their character at that time one re-customization for use during the grace period. This will allow you to restart the character portrait creation process with your current character portrait as the starting point. Please be aware that once you have saved your character portrait it will be final until we introduce in-game re-customization in a future release." |

This one is probably not too much labor either since it is a global action to all toons with no CCP input.
Now if most the portrait related crashes (adding portraits to alts, etc) on start up can be dealt with by deleting the EVE data folders and reinstalling client...then we may have the portrait crisis behind us.
LOL - obviously I am waiting for a user endorsed solution before committing on this toon. But do have an account with a screwed up new portrait.
Too bad CCP didn't leave the character generation or at portrait software as a standalone application. Then we could play with it endlessly and just import one FINAL portrait for each toon. But I guess if a regular .jpg was exported that would leave things open to severe user abuse (e.g. real pictures of someone's ass) as soon as they learned which bytes marked portrait data as valid. Hmmm.but there is no reason that a file of portrait settings to produce the picture could not be exported from a standalone and imported. That would be simple matter of validation that imported setting values are within legal ranges.

Still not happy.
So those who have made our character and hate it still only have ONE chance to get it right.

I will remain faceless until CCP puts the work into the proper racial clothing, hairstyles and features for each race.
The intricate forming of my characters' bodies means little with the limited clothing options that CCP has offered.

I would much rather have the ability to change how our characters look, maybe yearly? Maybe add something where by we can change the hair style or other non-character mesh items. Given the news I heard, (nothing offical) we may have this ability, but must pay for it.
On a side note, I would like the ability to change my character's name and sex... I find the female characters to be even more inciting, and as we are changing the make up of the characters, we might as well do it from the start only keeping the skills and points.

Many cudo's to Zendoren for this treat.
I think they replayed positive as far as i can understand the patch for today.
òA new character creation interface has been added, and Race, Bloodline and Gender are now selected using a new interface. òBoth old and new players will be able to use the reworked EVE character customization system to create a new Avatar and Portrait. òWe are adding support for an optional third name during the new character creation process. This is being done in order to expand the amount of available names in the EVE database and avoid having to purge older names. When you create a new character, you will put in your first two names in one box with a space between the names, and then use the second box for your third name. òNew Characters can have a selection of education options to choose from; this dictates their starting location. òCurrent characters will have a grace period before having to commit to a new character avatar and portrait. During this grace period you can take your time before finalizing your new avatar and portrait to suit your tastes.
Once this grace period is over all characters will be forced to create a new and updated character portrait and avatar during the login process. A final date for the end of this grace period will be announced. Stay tuned to the MOTD and news on www.eveonline.com for more information.

Well, my third attempt here turned out pretty good, but my first attempt was saved by accident. I would love a reset for Ultran. He's kind of dull. I'm excited about the new character designer's potential.

Mine did not, it just saved it. My first and main toon has a BAD portrait, this one turned out ok only because I knew ahead of time what to expect. I think the portrait changes should be free for a short time until the system works right.

Not sure if already mentioned but the clothes options are extremely limited! i wanted my caldari char to have a hoodie but wasn't available.. i think open all the options to allow your char to dress and look exactly how WE want them to.

First off, the idea of a new character is okay. Thank you CCP for letting people have a redo, but considering the blunder that was its release, they really should be infinite during the grace period. I want to redo one of my chars but I can't because I want to work on it, walk away and come back to it again later, but I can't with only one redo.
The way CCP did it was unfortunately very disappointing. The last CSM vote thread voted 'CCP committing to excellence' as one of the three top priorities. I've read through this thread over the last couple days, and a lot of people are basically feeling let down by CCP's rush job. This patchspansion should have been pushed back until at least tattoos and implants were prepared.
The clothing and hair options are horribly lacking. Bring back stuff like the minmatar corn rows and all the neat shirts from the old editor. One of my other chars was very unique. My version of her now is not her. I want my old char portrait back for that one. Why? Because CCP didn't import anything from the old editor like they said they were going to do
Everyone who is thinking that MTs are a good idea should realize that we shouldn't be paying any money to change our characters until the character creator is actually finished and all the options are done. I started playing about a year and a half ago. The old character creator never got any new content, until this one is at that point, no one should have to pay to alter their characters at all.

I'd have to agree, the feature is a welcome improvment, it does look like CCP did launch early (or late depending on how you see their schedule). There's alot missing, the problem with redoing it over and over again is the endless cache dumps and server repopulation, jita lags like a mother @ the moment due to avatar data streaming in.
So at the end of the day, I'm hoping CCP will be bringing fwd the second part soon (like june) so we get to update the accessories.
p.s. nice avatar 'Bayushi Tamago' Naughty Naughty !! |
