We yet again have to log on to EVE Gate, select a character, go into privacy options and AGAIN have to set it to NOT show our info etc - ON EVERY CHARACTER!?!
Why can't you just put the default to not show information to left and right. Pretty annoying imo.
Or maybe I'm just mad at my new face...

Default is to have users do plenty of superfluous clicking at hidden places.
Be it setup, PI, contracts, ....
CCP seems to have very limited knowledge about Interaction Design:

there is a new section
Quote: Profile visibility Hide my profile details from public views:
Public profiles are visible to people not logged in to EVE Gate. Your privacy settings are still enforced.
Public profile details are hidden for trial users
Profile details are, for now, hidden from public view to give users time to adjust privacy settings for their characters
thats the new part which is unchecked by default

I don't understand CCP's fixation with Spacebook. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. Groups have had 7 years to set up useful systems; CCP's calendar and message-posting thing is downright irrelevant. Forcing us to use that system is asinine. -- Need a break from EVE? |

How else might they try and motivate people to use that which hardly anyone uses so they can thusly point to it and say 'lo at that which we hath wrought, thine people doth love it so, alas our greatness knows no bounds!'

Ehm.. can you please tell me what ticks you off about people are able to see there? As far as I could see there is the corp/alliance name, then the biography and the employment history. Nothing that's not public and can't be obtained from ingame. Did I miss something?
I would be more concerned about the basic contact list settings for people which have excellent standing with you. Again, what do I miss? |

One thing you've apparently missed is that CCP doesn't respect your settings, nor your privacy. They have set all your information to public without telling you, and obfuscating it by putting it on 'test.evegate.com'. Yup. on the sisi evegate, you're totally nekkid. |

For me, all my gate.eveonline.com profile settings were set for private. I go to test.evegate.com and they are all set for public. I checked someone I confident had me blue and he was set for public too (I was able to see his whole contact list.) |

That sucks. I checked some people I know and theirs were set for private or whatever the standard is, when I'm a stranger for them, as I couldn't see their contacts. That's why I thought I missed something somewhere else. |

If the person you checked had you set blue, and allowed blue to see his contacts, then you should be able to see his contacts. I don't get what the problem is!

The issue being you didn't GIVE him permission, CCP did. Even if you denied it earlier, CCP then reset to give them permission.
I find it irritating too and I have no where near the need to be cautious about my information as Chribba does. |

Glad you posted this, I say something everytime they **** it up, but I'm a raving loon.
Only way to keep your contacts safe now is to not use Eve to store them but instead a 3rd party program.

It's an evil ploy by CCP to have people renew their (temporarily) expired alt accounts so they make more real life ISKies.
When an account is not subscribed/active, we are unable to undo the privacy options CCP has so kindly changed for us, so we are forced to re-subscribe during the 'grace period' or have the information that the privacy setting has opened up be revealed onbce it ends...
CCP please fix this yourself instead of forcing your subscribers to fix it. |

I guess Chribba is one of the 1% of players who don't matter and who won't really be adversely effected by limiting the contact system.
I've petitioned to have my account removed from Sisi again to avoid being exposed like this everytime they make a change, previously GMs were "sure I'll delete you".... Now they're telling me they have nothing to do with Sisi.

CCP please, please make these kind of features private by default. They are very hard to find in the first place, and many players probably don't even know they exist.
Defaults need to be at the safe setting. The safe setting for showing information is not to show it.
The fact that the settings need to be changed for every character makes it even worse. How many knows that in order to set up one account you need to switch characters 3 times?
I'll give you 3 pieces of advice in regards to account and game security: KISS KISS KISS

It's a corporate trick.
The guys in charge of this "quite optional" game feature need to demonstrate it has a purpose. Therefore they force you to use it, therefore by seeing it you could decide to actually use it. If not, you still provided "clicks" whose statistics will show up on some internal document to demonstrate the feature was worth the fat company budget.
