That's what I did (that, and age)à and then the "photo booth" screwed me by not giving me an image with the same kind of camera properties as was used for the actual sculpting and posing (and I'm pretty sure those cheekbones are not where I put them) 
Not that it matters because those kind of surface details don't show up in the pictures ù even at the 512×512 res, they get washed out. So you should probably bump those settings to 2 to make much of a difference.

I most definitely agree with the OP on the "unnatural plastic-looking skin" thing.
EDIT: WTF - it didn't post with the character I selected. I was trying to post with a no-skillpoint female alt that I've had lying around on this account for four years.

To OP: yes, you are right. I posted same opinion in other thread. Female avatars while being physically good looking, are not attractive at all. Those who ever had a girlfriend, know the difference between physical beauty and attractiveness.

It shows up on the model just fine, bust I suspect someone has greased the lens the in the "photo booth".

I know you have a desire for your girl to have perfect skin, but since they are computer generated this makes the skin unnaturally perfect. No girl has skin that "good" - not even after cosmetic surgery or an inch of makeup. Hence they all make me think of realdolls when I look at them, and it's horrific. Please sort this out ASAP with a quick petition to your friendly neighbourhood GM.
