I've just received this via petition:
"If you are not happy with the character portrait that you have made for your character, do not despair. In the next few days we are going to give everyone who has already customized their character at that time one re-customization for use during the grace period. This will allow you to restart the character portrait creation process with your current character portrait as the starting point. Please be aware that once you have saved your character portrait it will be final until we introduce in-game re-customization in a future release."

Hi,
This is an update to all players with a character portrait related petition in our system. Please read through carefully and update the petition afterward if still necessary.
If you are not happy with the character portrait that you have made for your character, do not despair. In the next few days we are going to give everyone who has already customized their character at that time one re-customization for use during the grace period. This will allow you to restart the character portrait creation process with your current character portrait as the starting point. Please be aware that once you have saved your character portrait it will be final until we introduce in-game re-customization in a future release.
The month long grace period we advertised refers to the period during which you can log into the game without a character portrait. Once this month grace period is over you will no longer be able to log in without going through the new character creator to create a new portrait for your character. Please note that the new character portrait system is not optional and a new portrait will be required after the grace period is over.
If you received this update without it being relevant to your petitioned issue then please accept our apologies. In that case you will have to respond to this update so your petition does not time out after seven days. We appreciate your patience and we hope you are enjoying the new character creation system.

I really hope this comes hand in hand with removing the lock on racial hair styles and clothing etc. Every race should have a long hair option for example.

The big question is should we hold onto this "re-customisation token" for when tattoos, etc are added? Would be pretty annoying to rework an avatar on Day 1 only to find loads of new stuff is added the week after.

TY, Good to know. I was avoiding the Posse because I didnt want to screw it up. Or at least Ocih. None of the Posse is active right now except her. Once we are ambient I might bring the others back but being ganked by Sansha in a PvP world, I will just keep playing FF14 untill you guys find something else to do

I petitioned for a re-customization because I hate my portrait and was clueless as to what I was doing, which I know is my fault, but it was worth asking, and got an automated response saying that everybody will be getting a free re-customization "within the next few days", but after that whatever you make is final, so I guess it's true.

I hope they add some clothes or something, it's kind of lame that all my caldari wear the same style of clothes.
Also, being able to put streaks of different colors would be nice.
I think the character creation system is great, just needs more diversity.
Oh yea, and why can you create a character without a shirt but you can't create one without pants?

Why would you need a bloodline change? All the customization options are the same. I had one Minmatar, and one Caldari. Both had the same options, even the tacky, formerly Minmatar sunglasses, now available for Caldari Deteis females.

Great news indeed!
But I hope that will take place when more options are launched. Like for the Intaki: more long hair options for example! having one long hair option only and have it be rasta style only is not really what I want...
Hopefully you guys will open up the races, bloodlines and the sex so we can change it too. When I made my character back in 2005 I made it out from look only by trying all the races untill I found a race that let me make a character I was happy with. That was not possible for me yesterday for the Intaki. And this remake will have great impact on the coming gameplay too, while it did not back in 2005.
Therefore CCP: please oh pretty please let us reroll completely! We are entering a new era of EVE soon! Letting us enjoy it fully by having a character we can enjoy playing would be a nice thing to do for all of us!

There is some overlap but there are differences. Each bloodline has a few options they either have exclusively, or exclusively don't have. Deteis cant have black hair for example. Also each bloodline has different skin-tones and sculpting boundaries.

This. I want dark hair as a Deteis. The darkest right now is still a sort of diarrhea brown. Aside from genetics there exists something as hair paint, why not let us choose any RGB value and be done with it?

YOU made your portrait and YOU made it suck so bad. Why click submit when it looked so terrible? What was so hard about the process that you couldn't work out how to make a passable avatar yourself?

I spent hours remaking my characters and with each one I learned you could do other things I didnt know with the first etc. But the worst part is that, even still,I liked how they came out except for one or two things that really bothered me, but I didnt want to start from scratch and lose what I did like
So the opportunity to FIX what I currently have (instead of starting over) will be freakin great and is wonderful news. THANKS CCP!

What schould bring such a ****? The whole char editor is absolute crap! I demand other clothes and more content like Hair; UNIFORMS!!! ALL chars look same. I can only choos if i want a fat or slim char. Wow.. great content CCP. Why schould my char looks like a skinhead repist in a ****ing ugly waistcoat? What schould I do with two sorts of Jackets? Expand the grace period. You will get Walking on Stations not work within the next few years.. but I schould model a new char within one Month WITHOUT ANY usefull or good looking stuff? WTF?
BTW: Why must my char dither like a parkinson's victim? Let the model stand still when we should modeling accurate. An Offlineversion would be nice. Also a Preview of the smalles picture (Ingame-Chat) would be nice. The result after modeling is often horrible if you look at the little chat pictures.

I can't figure out from CCP's official post on the topic whether we're merely going to be able to re-do the portrait, or whether we'll be able to get back into the character creator, itself, in order to, say, tweak the make-up or...as some people have suggested in this thread, give yourself a breast reduction. It sounds as though they're simply talking about the portrait creation stage of the character creator. But again, it's hard to say.

They should really offer this "2nd chance" as standard to all newly created avatars and not just this once IMHO.
Also, during the actual creation process they really should have a confirmation screen showing the chosen avatar in all sizes the picture will be used in - chat thumbnails do look a lot different (and is the most common use of the pictures as well)

The Color of some clothes DO NOT match with each other. The design would match.. But the color is ****. Who ****ing designed this ****? It is not possible to create a monolithic looking uniform.
Wel imo it's not that bad, but there could be more options; the hairstyles, hair colours, skin tones are very limited, even beyond what was allowed in the previous editor. There already are very little styles and colours, why limit them even more for specific races and bloodlines? It's not that we have an abundance of choices, for example almost all the women use 3 or 4 hairstyles: the ponytail, the long hair and the two half-long styles. There simply isn't a lot of choice, I think if you add all the hairstyles of the previous editor together we even had more options then.
A remake would be step 1 but more options and possibly a bloodline or race remake would be a good step 2. Why so many restrictions, we want more freedom, not small prisons with very little room!? And why change some of the bloodlines so much that they're impossible to re-create in the new editor?

The message from CCP clearly says you'll be able to modify your existing character if you wish. The starting point will be as you look right now.
If you are happy with your current image then leave it alone and at some stage in the near future it will be locked.
At least until the Incarna store based modifications come along.

It's great CCP are doing this (we all make mistakes the first time around - just remember your first ever characater in EvE).
A helpful alternative would have been to provide the ability to
preview your avatar to see how it will actually look in game BEFORE you save it.
e.g. Allow something like a 24hr cooldown period after the first time you create an avatar during which you can biomass it and start over if you're unhappy with it.
EDIT: Just read the post below which pretty much sums it up nicely.

Also, during the actual creation process they really should have a confirmation screen showing the chosen avatar in all sizes the picture will be used in - chat thumbnails do look a lot different (and is the most common use of the pictures as well)
