So I got this new mission earlier. L2 mission, with only 40k reward. One of the worst paying L2's I can possibly get, so I'm thinking "Alright, this will be pretty easy". Warp in, and I see 4 cruisers, and 3 frigs. "Ok, maybe not THAT easy" Proceed to get into range, soon as I fire, 4 more cruisers, and 3 more frigs spawn.
So. I'm a 600k SP Amarr pilot in a partial T2 tanked Omen. Taking about 1k Damage a volley from the rats, I literally warp in, start taking damage, and have to start warping out almost immediately, or I get poped.
I've played this game before, and I've done some of the harder L3 and they were easier than this stuff.
What am I to do here? Or maybe this mission just isn't tuned correctly.....

Edited by: Obsession Paranoia on 19/01/2011 19:55:14 Rewards scale based on average completion time. New missions start with a completion time of nil, so the reward is tiny. Soon enough, it'll be one of the higher paying level 2's, thats a lot of cruisers for a level 2.
Also, train Caldari I was flying level 2's in a Maller, and the cruisers were shooting me to ribbons in some of them, since my Optimal range was 16km. I trained Caldari in a few days, stepped into a Caracal with 56km heavy missile range, and halved my mission times. Pretty sure Amarr have this issue right through missions, not being able to project damage at longer ranges. I just started level 4 missions, and 6 battleships, 4 cruisers and 5 frigates can shoot you to sh*t at their optimal range, but since I'm at 75km, I can survive.

Cofalib, I did that mission yesterday as well. Took me a long time as I could only warp in, kill one frigate then warp away and repair. But, at one point I checked my journal and the mission was complete, even though most of the enemies were still alive.
I think that mission is one where you arrive, see that there are too many enemies, then the mission is complete.
I did manage to kill them all after a while, in a Vexor with T2 Hobgoblins for the frigs and T2 Hammerheads for the cruisers.
I found if I keep a distance of over 30km they don't do too much damage, but at 15km or less they almost wiped me out in 2 or 3 volleys.
The salvage and loot was not all that great.

I went zooming in and they were beating up my tank like some of the toughest level 3 missions (I started orbiting the disabled drone to improve my tank so I wouldn't have to warp out, that plus killing a bunch of them seemed to do the trick). But they spawn 40 km away from warp in point. Missile spam might still be a killer, I don't know the range of those things. Some cruisers have a pretty ridiculous range (particularly the Caracal).
Added: Pieter Retief says they do much less damage beyond 30 km. So sounds like sniping is how you do this one.
Added2: I must have missed killing some of the original ships, because I ended up killing almost all of them before the mission completed.

I am currently doing this mission and it is impossible to finish.
I cannot kill some ships, their shields regenerate faster than I can do damage to them.
Very deterring. :(

Sounds like you're using the wrong damage types on them, underpowered weapons, or maybe poor skills. What ship and ammo/drones are you using? I used kinetic heavy missiles (3 batteries) and medium hammerheads (5 therm) to destroy them. I also have pretty good drone and missile skills.

Actually it's a bit more than just proper ammo. This mission is just stupid damage-dealing. If you aren't flying a resist ship or have the right shield/armor resists, and have a couple nice drones out there, you're gonna be going back to station to repair A LOT. Will definitely turn this lame mission down next time.

Had a couple friends do this mission after I had complained about it. They took a T2 Oman with T2 drones, and a T2 fitted Harbinger. Both had to warp out and back in twice in order to survive the mission and complete it.
Just a L2 mission btw, with (right now) terrible rewards.
After some replies to this thread, and talk to some more people. The Mission is completely overtuned.

Edited by: Tasko Pal on 21/01/2011 03:43:42 Ok, I got this mission a second time. First thing I did was burn to about 55 km away from drone. The rats didn't aggro me until I started shooting. That gave me plenty of time to get into position. Once I got out there, I started sniping. The damage at 50 km was really weak (everything that I needed to shoot had spawned by that point, they seem to be timed spawns, though I can't rule out range spawns, if you get close to the disabled drone). I have a serious passive tank, but it was barely dented. My feeling is that if you stay out of range of their nasty short range dps, then even a modest tank should be able to hold.
My fit does a lot of damage so I can't tell if any of them were particularly good tankers, but you should be able to nail frigs first, then work on the cruisers. If you can't break their tanks, then get a friend.
Mission payout and standing increase seems to have gone up, but I used a much better quality agent (better qual and security) for the second mission. So don't know if it's just the agent or the mission moved significantly to its real payout level.
TL;DR: shoot the bastards from 50+km with enough dps and you should do fine.

Thats a lie. T2 fitted Harby could stay absolutely still and steamroll cruisers, and medium T2 drones turn them into fluff in seconds.

Just did this one in a Punisher w/ T2 guns and rep. Looks like you want to tank Kin/Therm. Killed all the frigs first, then worked on the cruisers. Speed tanking the Commanders' missiles worked well, didn't have to rep too often. They also went down faster than the other cruisers, I'd do them first if you're taking significant missile damage. Orbited the tougher cruisers close, nos, shoot, pulse the repper.
This is definitely one of the tougher L2s. Good luck.

I've done some missions like this.
Sometimes using smaller ship where the cruisers can't hit you because you're too small and too fast works better.

Takes a bit of a pounding but my tech 1 fitted Myrmidon was okay if I assigned my drones targets rather than putting my feet up and playing solitaire on my phone :)

This was the first mission i got when i finally moved my new toon up to lvl 2 missions. Had to warp out several times to refit and come back, ended up losing more isk than I made. Seven Cruisers was a bit much, you definetly have to kite them, and the HM caracals hit over 50km. But they succumb quickly to kenetic dmg. I killed them in a T1 stabber with artillary.

Just finished this mission. It did seem inordinately hard for the ISK. However, I noticed the missions objectives were completed as soon as I killed one cruiser.

I've done this mission, even in a passive HAM drake I had to jump out halfway through, and regen my shield before jumping back in. This is seriously not an L2 mission in it's current configuration. Also when I did it I got the 2nd and 3rd spawns about 30s and 60s after firing the first volley.
