I fear I will have to quit eve. I've turned down the graphics, and I can't seem to do the char creation in any kind of time that doesn't cause madness... I have an 18 mo old mac book pro ... settings turned way down.
maybe I will just have to random and accept, anyone else having these issues? am I going to be hosed in game as well? Best regards, Apollo Gabriel

At least wait until the post-patch patch. Might fix things up. If not, then you can leave.
If that happens, can I have your stuff?

If an 18 month old laptop can't play eve, then I think it's time to move on.
As to the "can I have your stuff" crowd, I'd appreciate it if you kept your trolling out of my thread. Best regards, Apollo Gabriel

If you're quitting anyway, why don't try random and see if it works? Be aware though that I've seen the game break in various ways when the character creator was running, so if anything outside of the character creator appears broken, make sure to restart Eve to see if it fixes itself.
Another thing, I seem to remember specific graphics settings for the character creator, but I can't see them right now (and due to DT can't check if they show up once I log in).

I appreciate the suggestion, but I fear Incarna is going to nuke me afterwards if I can't even make a toon.
I am conflicted ... Best regards, Apollo Gabriel

Honestly... you spend maybe an hour doing your character creation. It doesn't even affect the actual gameplay at all... Once your character is created, the game is the same as it's always been. It took me like three hours of constant crashing and about 0.5 frames per second, but I did it, and I never have to do it again. Unless I make a new character, which is unlikely.
Suck it up and deal with it for a few hours and then continue flying space shooty-things as you always have.

Considering how craptastic the char creator on the mac side is... I'm not surprised.
You might want to borrow someones windows computer to get through that part.
As for the rest... its functional and OK... except for that annoying chat glitch i keep getting... its ok for the most part.
I fear the guys at CCP are NOT bothering to test their damn products thoroughly enough and we end up being their bloody beta testers. ========================= CEO of Shadow Cadre http://www.shadowcadre.com ========================= |

That had been my plan, but it was so painful I lost patience. Then I wondered if Incarna will simply be the end for me on the Mac. My machine does everything I need it to, except Eve, which isn't enough reason to upgrade ... and really if the graphical requirements are going to prevent me from Incarna, I don't see the point in staying, which sucks since Eve has ruined other games for me.
Thanks for the replies. Best regards, Apollo Gabriel

Dare I say it, run the windows client in Bootcamp till you've done the Character, the you can return to the Mac client. It's amazing how much faster it is in windows...
Not condoning using windows all the time though! delete boot camp as soon as your done
Better yet borrow usage of a friends PC for 1/2 hour, then you don't have to infect your mac!

This is what I have to do on my two year old iMac and it works great.
First off if you can get to the last screen at all then do that with the shader high, shadows on and low quality character box unchecked. Keep the physically simulated cloth and hair unchecked. Everything else can be turned down.
Look at the lighting choices so they appear accurate. Remember which lighting you want.
Restart EVE with the low quality character box checked, physically simulated cloth and hair unchecked. Shader high, shadows on. Then see if you can use the character creator easily. Make your lighting choice though you won't see it in effect.

which is a showstopper alone. you'll prolly end up with a portrait of darkness or look like your face is floodlit.

Try the character creation when less people are on line - that helped for me. THe first time was it was an insane slow pain in the rear - today early am with less people on after the newest patch was really good. Maybe 25 - 30 minutes and I was done. And all the options seemed to be working (unlike the first time). Good luck
