Probably a carrier. (Although Battlestar is a class in the series I think)
As for what ship looks like it... None I'm afraid.

Edited by: Culmen on 22/01/2011 05:09:42 Galactica is battleship sized. It's 1438.64m long That about the same length as the Maelstrom, but not as high. Then again, most of the Mael's height comes from the wingy bits. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Bigger than a mammoth. Size, shape and outline of a Mach. Obviously functionality is different, trying to find a counterpart of it in eve is like comparing apples to oranges.

Always thought the Retty and Hulk looked like BSG ships.
Or a mammoth. BSG is the same length as a mammoth so...

It only has the 1978 Galactica. The new one is fatter and longer, at 1445 instead of 1265 meters.

Edited by: Cydori on 22/01/2011 06:04:52 None. The Battlestar Galactica is, at least in concept, the type of capital ship a space empire might actually build. It has tremendous point defenses, a long-range strike capability (nuclear missiles), formidable long-range sensors, the ability to make long-rang jumps independent of outside aid, and by design is nearly immune to ECM. Of course, its main hitting power comes in the form of two full wings of fighter-bombers supported by scout and command ships. In short, it's something like a really advanced version of a Nimitz class aircraft carrier on steroids.
In stark contrast, all of EVE's ships gimped right from the start in an effort to keep various classes viable and "fair," whatever fair is supposed to be. The end result is that EVE is very nearly relegated to being a complex game of rock-paper-scissors.

The central idea is to encourage multiplayer teamwork by specializing each ship type and class, however, in reality it practically forces blobbing rather than intelligent tactics.

I'd say Rokh meets Dominix. Missiles, Railguns and Drones. Yes, the cannons of the Galactica are Railguns.
Or a Hel with Railgun and Missile slots :P

Edited by: Simeon Tor on 22/01/2011 12:02:18 The new Galactica was based on modern day aircraft carriers so the closest representation of it's class EVE would be a carrier, an armor tanking carrier at that.
Though the closest ship in EVE in terms of abilities I'd have to say would be the Typhoon as was already stated.

I don't think it's comparable, Vipers =! drones. There's no ship in EVE that can launch dozens of drones, let alone player-piloted ships.

If not, star wars would most definately win hands down.
Star Trek vs EvE could be interesting.

star wars ships are ridiculously powerful if you just look at the stats they are given. eve ships would be like throwing guppies into a pirahna tank in comparison. trek ships would be entirely outclassed except for one nasty trick. they can engage targets while in warp which means they can pick off anything they want with no return fire coming back at them at all. an interdictor cruiser "might" be able to create a zone where warp isn't possible but even if that works the zone is too small to actually protect anything. tactically trek ships should be nearly impossible to beat. strategically i'd bet on the star wars empire winning because it can attack all fed worlds and bases at the same time with huge forces. hard to win when you lose your pop'n base and logistics in one fell swoop.
