Hi. I have just a few questions.
If wis is only in select systems and stations, and by looking at GD becoming the new character bazare, wont these select stations become the new Jitas? Everyone crowding in, systems full etc?
Will a wis station actually be able to handle 1000+ people walking around? Or will it look and feel like a brazilian disco?
Or will there be a wis station in jita?
Also wondering, if afk in a station, will it be possible to ie sit at the bar with your head on the counter passed out, so people know that you are afk? Instead of being randomly convod and asked why are you ignoring me.
Thanks for any enlightment or "lets make op feel stupid" replies. :)

I forgot the gankers part of the post.
Will these few select stations / systems be a haven for pirates to randomly pop people undocking? Changing their happy happy WIS mood into a barrel of tears and I hate WIS posts?
Also I am kind of worried the WIS will be too popular and the rest of Eve will become quite(r).
Well, we'll see. Hopefully all goes well. :)

I relish the opportunities that this would afford.
Raiding null systems whilst all the vets are throwing up Entraxyln Spirit all over the space toilets. Been on EvE so long they probably cant handle their alcohol any more.

Hopefully there will be collision detection so we can PvP people by stopping them getting back to their ships in time, etc. Or spiking their drinks so that they get a negative booster effect or something. Or just plain ol' shanking.

On collision I believe it was mentioned people won't be able to 'block' movement by standing there.
The rest it is unknown, WIS/incarna/ambulation is going to be on a separate 'node/thing/whatever' so it won't increase load on 'space' so very possible to have it in Jita and likely I'd say.
Unknown as to how you will be when 'afk' we all await CCP to clarify the stuff they talked about, what 2+ years ago.

This idea is very novel. You should write a thread in the suggestions forum about it.

AFAIK, there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to exclude even a single station in the entire game universe from this, so it should be available everywhere.
Quote: Will a wis station actually be able to handle 1000+ people walking around? Or will it look and feel like a brazilian disco?
First off, the "can the server handle it" part. Considering walking in stations is a 2D problem not a 3D one and for physical simulation purposes all characters could just as well be identical server-side, also considering that there is no combat, and finally considering that most of the CPU load would probably happen client-side as opposed to server-side like in EVE... I think the WiS servers could easily handle much more people than the regular space ones. As for the disco comment part... I'm fairly sure that given the size of the environments just barely glimpsed in some of the earlier WiS/Ambulation vids, you could easily fit a thousand people in just a couple of the rooms without it feeling way too crowded.
Quote: Or will there be a wis station in jita?
See both above. So, yes, there will be one, I also expect it to be the most populated one in the entire universe, and no, I don't think it would be "too crowded". Then again, CCP could always screw something up and make a lying predictionist out of me

i would guess that all WIS could happen on different server nodes than the space part, so jita WIS could be on a different server than jita space. they would just need to trade off to each other or communicate to keep track of players transitioning back and forth... just guessin' tho.

They stated as much years ago, and have never retracted any of those statements. Also, CCP has been constantly unloading stuff from the "physical simulation of space" code part and putting it on different machines, just see the character node devblog a few months ago for an example.
We can already//still safely say (with an extremely high degree of certainty) that "space Jita" will be a completely different piece of hardware from "WiS Jita 4-4 interior".
Quote: they would just need to trade off to each other or communicate to keep track of players transitioning back and forth... just guessin' tho.
Considering what they also planned to be possible to do for podpilots while in Incarna mode, it will also need access to the character nodes (yet another machine) and the market system (not completely sure how that one looks hardware-and-connectivity-wise) the very least. That could probably be handled elegantly and without much of an actual issue.
HOWEVER...
Consider the current character creator. That's how our avatars are supposed to look like in Incarna, right ? Now remember how hot your video card has gotten while working with it these past few days. Then imagine hundreds of such avatars around you within "line of sight". Assuming no drastic corner-cutting optimisations that might make Incarna look pretty damn icky are made, the environment in Incarna might very well become "too crowded" processing-wise CLIENT-SIDE with just a handful of characters within looking distance, and that's most of what I meant by the last paragraph in my previous post. The rest was a stealth jab at CCP for often using the incorrect order of magnitude on various units, implying bathroom-sized amphitheaters or something to that extent

If we can't stand at a large transparent portal at the bar and look out at the undock (at Jita 4-4 for instance) in real time it will be a great disappointment. The whole point of "eve" is one big persistent universe. When we are standing inside an alliance's outpost somewhere and it's under attack outside, there should be air raid sirens and shaking inside.

Yes they will be collision detection, CCP have already thought about your idea. You character and the player you ran into will automatically (and something you cannot turn off) turn side ways or step sideways to allow each other player past. It was mentioned in either a dev blog or one of the fan fest video's.
At the moment CCP have made it clear WIS will be a non PVP zone, the only exception being trading either on the market or running shops. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

Kranwe Sentai, I hope you don't mind but in Features and Ideas I posted a thread about being afk in stations while appearing asleep and quoted your original post. http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1454107
Also, the chaos in Jita during the first week of WiS is gonna to be great. :) |

They didn't make much mention of it in the presentations, but they described it in one of the roundtables and Q&A:s afterwards. Essentially, we won't have collision as you might think of it. Instead, everyone will rather have a "personal space" that you can intrude on if need be. Instead of a classic 2D collision problem where everyone is essentially a rigid circle (or square or rectangle or some other shape) that bounce off of, collide with, or block each other, people will be more like a bunch of sponges trying to squeeze past each other.
In the normal scenario, you will only ever get as close to another person as that "personal space" dictates, but if someone comes along and wants to move by between the two of you, they can, and the personal space of all three characters gets squished around to accommodate this new situation.
So it's still a slightly more complicated problem than it might first look, but it is so because they want to avoid the disco-stampede effect (and avoid having the goons close the poolà Eris make a specific note on that on). ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |
