It seems I can't jump or enter warp more than 2 or 3 times without crashing. Previously, for the last couple of updates, EVE has been extremely stable for me. Once I renamed the Jukebox directory (last I checked, that was still broken) I almost never crashed. Now, it's made it to the point where the game is borderline unplayable.
I'm on Ubuntu 10.10. I've tried this with two NVIDIA cards, a 9600 and the 8400 in my laptop. Ubuntu 10.10 hast he 260 NVidia drivers, and wine 1.2.1.
When it crashes, the following shows up on the console from which I ran wine and EVE:
Quote: An exception has occurred. It has been logged in the log server as exception #2 wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x66652f73 at address 0x66652f73 (thread 001c), starting debugger... Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x66652f73 in 32-bit code (0x66652f73).
followed by a register dump and a backtrace that aren't particularly enlightening.
Has anybody else seen this? Does anybody know any way to work around it?

I increased the graphics settings when creating the new avatar. Those weren't stable, so I decreased them again. Maybe something similar happened to you?
I've also disabled sound and eve voice. |

Running wine 1.3.11 might fix it. But at this point, a lot of the issues have only one single point of similarity, and that seems to be "ubuntu".

Not ubuntu in my case. Arch64 (wine 1.3.12 from multilib and nvidia 260.19.36).
Otoh I'm able to make it work by changing some graphics settings, and I'm not even trying to use sound... |

I switched over to wine-pulse from AUR (as I'm using gnome+pulseaudio) and it seems to be running just fine. |

For me it runs unstable if I enable the "Depth effects".

Tried both with that enabled and then disabled. On my rig, at least, I'm seeing no fps difference, nor stability issue either way. -just fyi. Arch64 +nvidia 260.19.36 +wine 1.3.11

I bet that's it.... Sad that the workarounds mean loading no character portraits.
I wonder if this is a Wine bug or an EVE bug? (Or some of both?)

Its pretty unstable for me too lately. But i think in my case its cause of my dual monitor setup. Most of the time EvE crashes i changes focus to an other window on the second screen or back to EvE from an other window. I could not fix this regardless of which settings i use.
I'm on arch64 / KDE 4.6 / wine 1.3.12 / or wine-git

Oh dear, I think I suffer from the network trouble today. Yesterday, everything was running fine and pretty stable and now I survive less than 3 minutes without a crash. The host workaround does not seems to work here. If you also have these troubles... you are not alone :-/

Same issues here in Colorado. Showing an "motd" url timeout in the log server. IF I can even get past the splash screen. We'll have to wait and see methinks.

Having exactly the same issue. Running it fullscreen on second screen with wine desktop seems to be beneficial:
env WINEPREFIX="/home/username/.wine" DISPLAY=:0.1 wine explorer /desktop=EVE1,1920x1200 C:\\ProgramFiles\\CCP\\EVE\\eve.exe
Thus I have EVE alone on one screen, and all other windows on the other screen, and from the looks of it when testing with windowed mode, the wine desktop fools EVE into thinking it never loses focus.

I had many of the problems described here, and spent days switching between win7 and ubuntu 10.10 until I eventually figured out it was sod all to do with the graphics.
Turns out that my issues were based on the audio em within wine. I disabled audio in game, no effect - did it in wine config, and it hasn't crashed since...
give it a try, ubuntu no likey sounds :(

Grandma' Edith pokes:
*whew* Got it finally working, changed to ubuntu (mint) 10 & wine 1.3.13:
open a terminal type wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks (if not already done earlier) sh winetricks allfonts vcrun2008 type winecfg in it, pick "bibliothecs" add d3dx9_35 & d3dx9_36 msvcr90 should be already in by trickin' vcrun2008 (maybe *msvcr90 named)
install (repair) EVE
could read & accept EULA, got the "carbonizer" (char creator)...all done now. Kudos to thetrel, mention for "install vcredist_x86.exe", led me to winetrickin' vcrun2008.
o7
Just to clarify that "in it, pick "bibliothecs"" is "in it, pick "Libraries"" not sure if anyone else noticed this. ~ * ~

For me, the problems seem to have vanished a while ago, about the same time as the graphics drivers got updated.
My current nvidia driver version is 260.19.44 and I'm using a GTX460.
(Note that due to the very random nature of the issues I had, I'm not actually sure if the driver updated fixed it, or even if it's actually fixed or if it simply hasn't happened again since then.)

Running Linux Mint 8, amd 9950 be, 4 gigs corsair dominator 1066 and ati radeon 3870x2
did the above aforementioned and quoted, EVE runs, just logged in with no problems a moment ago where as before i didn't even see the eula's or the scroll bar
also i've got it running in fixed window mode, but theres a sound thing like a short burst of static ever 3 seconds, i recommend the use of full screen, it doesnt seem to have the problem
grats on the workaround

so i installed eve online on my ubuntu 10.10 laptop, nothing special an Acer Extensa 4420 dual 1.9 ghz cpu with 2 gigs ram and an ati x1200 radeon card... it didnt start, just crashed after a few seconds... 11.04 upgrade installed two days ago and i figured i'd give it a try... eve starts and i get the cant scroll or eve exit out of eve except that i 'alt+tab'(ed) out of it and force closed the operation... now that it at least starts i run through the steps above, except that the " add d3dx9_35 & d3dx9_36 msvcr90 should be already in by trickin' vcrun2008 (maybe *msvcr90 named)" step doesn't work...
so now i'm in the process of downloading visual c++ for windows, which is what the message i keep getting says is failing... will update as soon as i can
also been trying to get ts3 to run on linux, got it installed, but it dont recognize my mic... will update that tooo once i get it running
what i've done so far: 1] downloaded visual c++ 2008 @ http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=9b2da534-3e03-4391-8a4d-074b9f2bc1bf&displaylang=en 2] installed it and ran previously failed steps again, same result [thinking this really is an ubuntu issue]
then ran the newly downloaded eve repair tool and got an error message to read an error log...
