Edited by: Djinnia Selulien on 25/01/2011 10:45:57 I have just made this post in "issues, workarounds" but I'm posting it here too as many capsuleers affected by this "feature" won't see it there.
Last night - for the 2nd time in as many weeks I lost an expensive (for my wealth) ship in a mission room, a T2 fit apocc.
"Stuck" bouncing around on an Acc Gate, unable to get it to move in another direction away from the gate, warp, or anything else, all the while being shot at by rats...lots of rats..28 BS to be precise.
I warped using Acc Gate in 1 room to "land" right on the other...I had no idea what was waiting for me - (bad intel from a (censored) corp player who asked for help - won't do that again). This is EXACTLY the same as last time warping from one Acc Gate to land "in" the other unable to move, warp or anything else.
My previous reply from ccp when I petitioned was "working as intended - no problem here etc", I took them at their word and put it down to my bad luck.
On this second occasion I've done some digging around and found these: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1079881: "Same here, i'm getting stucked in acceleration gates and i cannot cancel warp anymore, the ship stay stucked forever, and it's annoying and frustrating becouse the only solution is to relog."
http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1029100&page=1#4: "Had a Raven stuck on a gate for 5 minutes trying to warp, I just had to let it sit there and figure itself out."
http://www.eveonline.com/iNgameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=968355&page=1 : "The reason they changed the radius of accel gates were that people were getting stuck" (my underline)
And that was in just a couple of minutes - I daresay I'd find a lot more if I carried on looking.
Looks like they need to re-address this issue and make it "idiotproof" by maybe doubling the radius.
In the meantime I ask any others that have taken the time to read this (TY) to post any similar experiences, and maybe, just maybe add enough weight to my petition now and any future ones both mine and any others who fall foul of this "working as intended" feature of EVE to get my ship and or isk back.
TY for reading.

Back when I ran missions I always had that problem but normally I still pulled the groups properly so I didn't become overwhelmed.
What mission were you doing for 28 battleships to spawn on you? or was this some sort of Cosmos mission?
I imagine if you petition you will get a generic response from the GM saying this effects everyone equally. Which isn't the case when you can do a hundred missions and not have it and then one time you'll be stuck on it for half an hour.
If you petition and enforce that you had absolutely no control on your ship then surely this isn't "working as intended". I have found myself stuck on gates in which even if I attempt to move in any direction my speed won't get above 20% without being bounced off I have logged off only to find that when I log back on I am either still stuck or when I emergency warp back I land right on the gate.
If this is "Working as intended" then you wonder if there really is a quality control area, I guess the whole "We will polish stuff" only means new content. Anything fubar'd before hand is going to stay like that.

Personally, I don't think there is anything wrong. It happens to everyone doing mission occasionally. It's how you handle yourself when you do get stuck. You just have to make sure you stop your ship, choose a direction away from the gate that seems reasonably clear, double click in that direction, and you will come free much sooner if you just keep hitting warp or something like that.

When it goes into warp and starts bouncing around, stop your ship and fly in the direction of least resistance. In about 10 seconds you'll be free to warp again. You can't change direction while warping, only after you stop your ship, so just sitting on a gate bouncing like a yo-yo isn't going to change anything; you'll just keep dying.

I think the OP knows this just sometimes even I have experienced it where even doing that works to no avail, you end up there stuck until the invisible barrier finally allows you out.
Edit: Though I have never lost a ship to it might I add, it was more of a pure annoyance than anything.
Personally I think they should just change those acceleration gates to something else like "spacial phenomena" at the size of a beacon but the same activation radius and claim that it allows super fast acceleration. The acceleration gate is just flawed awfully.

if you cant manually pilot away from an object in space that you are colliding with.. then you deserve to pop

If you are inside the physical boundaries of an object, which direction is away? ;)
Yes that sometimes happens, but maybe it has been fixed.
It can also be hard to see the extent of an object if large parts of it is invisible.

What I do is move away from the gate before I pull anything, if I aggress rats at the gate, I move anyway. It's not rocket science.

I lost a ship on L4 Cargo Delivery mission. I was smart enough to buy the Quafe Ultra before hand. As soon as spawn landed I hit warp... but the align wedged me into debris. I was sad that day.

ANY
alternatively for those of you with poor spatial awareness, create a new overview tab with everything ticked, that way you can see how close you are to that space rock that your ship is humping merilly

ahh yes to clarify - I went into the room as a tank for another person who asked for help, who neglected to tell me he had pulled the entire room and it was sitting on the other side camping the AG.
I did try to move "out" of the gate but it wouldn't let me.
Thanks for these replies - hopefully it will help my petition.

Some missions do have the warp beacon directly on the gate, which is odd, and I have found myself yelling a long stream of expletives at my monitor while having to abort warp to move away from the gate.

It's not just gates, can happen on any structure even asteroids.

I think some of you who are stating "if you can't cancel warp blah blah blah you deserve to get popped" are failing at reading comprehension. There are instances where you CAN NOT cancel warp. You recieve a messsage "You can't do that while warping" or some such nonsense on occasion. The only option you have is to log out and hope you e-warp away so when you do log in again you aren't stuck on the gate any longer. - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

Sounds like the game puts the ship into the warp state but it somehow is still stuck on the gate. Just like you can't cancel warp once the ships has gone into warp you can't cancel warp once the ship is in warp but stuck on a gate as well.

Ty again for all the replies - so far CCP have not replied - last time I petitioned I got the reply I mentioned within a day, maybe they now finally see that lost ships and such under these conditions just isn't fair on players. For some ppl 150mill is mere drop, for ppl like me it's several days play and annoying as hell to find that time totally wasted through no fault of my own, and the RL money that goes with it.
Yes they are busy with Incursion..but right now I REALLY don't care, fix the bugs that are several years old before creating new ones hmmmm?
I WILL take the time to find EVERY SINGLE POST with the same complaint if I have to and chuck that at them.

I've found that alot of the older type missions, particularly the COSMOS and some exploration sites have very badly placed debris/gates/structures in them and can be a nightmare to navigate. There are many cases I can recall when you get bounced between multiple objects after you have warped in to a location and are then unable to warp away as you need to manually navigate out of the debris field to get your 'run-up' for warping. Or you get the rapid acceleration and deceleration sequence as your ship tries to move out, often you get stuck in a warp cycle unable to cancel it as you seem to hit the warp speed you need only to suddenly slow-down again, you then get the "you are in warp" message everytime you try to CTRL-SPACE. It's often worse when you get thrown inside a structure as then the pathfinding can't work out where to go at all...
The worst mission I have found with this is Level 4 Vengeance, the gate you warp into on the first room is surrounded by 'roids and if you are unlucky with where the warp-in placed you, you can get stuck very easily.
The bug has been around for ages and is part of the awful pathfinding they use for double-click piloting. I've never had a successful reimbursement petition from getting stuck on an object and being blown-up. Probably submitted around ten or so over the years. It sucks, and the financial loss can be harsh sometimes, but it comes down to the game-makers not wanting to admit there is a fundamental flaw in the way the game handles collisions and pathfinding. Once they admit it, they set a precedent which they have to fulfil for every player who peitions a loss because of it, and then they will actually have to fix it...
However, after saying all that, it doesn't happen that often these days as most areas are obviously designed with the limitations in mind. |

The problem is the collision mesh. It should be a wedge shape, and not follow the contours of the gate it self. Meaning if you landed on it, you would be flung out of it and not be stuck at all.
Would take a designer all of 5 minutes to fix and commit. Most people will read this thinking it's part of my post, when its actually my sig :P

I can only advise you to be patient: the GMs will reply to your petition as soon as possible. However, making multiple posts on the forums will not speed this process up.
Locking this thread now, as you already have one in the 'Issues, Workarounds and Localization' forum section.
