I completely believe that if they swapped the Mammoth and the Tempest models, there would be very few if any complaints and compliments to the high heavens.

Agreed mamoth and phoon should swap models. Make phoon smaller lookin and mam bigger lookin.
For now though /me strokes the 10mn mwd on my mam.

Absolutely.
At the very least they ought to bring out an armed merchant cruiser version of the Mammoth so we can have one with decent guns on.
Lots of grid but low cap - so could mount big projectiles and missiles but not do any significant tanking. Big drone bay (lots of internal space, after all) so it can do its Galatica impression...
Cheap, fragile and slow - but *dangerous*!

Whenever the Minmatar dreadnaughts come out, one of the designs SHOULD SHOULD SHOULD look similar to the Mammoth.

The Minmatar ships should be UPDATED to look more like the Vigil and new Destroyers and BattleCruisers... 
Same with the stations... glad I don't spend a lot of time around those...

afaik the mammoth was designed as a battleship in early beta. CCP changed it to an indy i guess because they had different design ideas for the BS.
It's a good looking indy though, I had a thorax attack my phoon once thinking it was a mammoth, doh

every ship imho looks un realistic unless they got feet. how do they stand up? imaggine a tempest as a plastic toy, now put it on your desk what happens? with the apoc what do u do? turn it upside down and float it in a bathtub?

The Probe would look nice floating in a bathtub. It has a big sail on it. =)

i know they deffo originally designed the mammoth to be a battleship but they changed...
