I was reading a thread on Eve-I about Jove's when it suddenly dawned on me, that every single jove oriented thread on the Eve-Online.com forum (or at least, the few that I have seen), has been ridiculed by various members, who have seen the apparantly laughable subject matter as a chance to make petty banter.
I for one find this spam to be an obstruction of the truth. Vandalism of potentially interesting debates, and a mockery of those who merely want some answers.
Well pardon me for wanting to know what the deal is, and excuse me your royal highness, if I tread the jovian dog**** on my shoe into your royal carpet. Frankly you can stick your arrogant inferiority complex, along with your denial-of-debate attacks, up your unwiped spotty prepubescant crybaby ass. I'm sick and tired, not to mention frustrated by the amount of utter rubbish I have to sift through just to get some kind of a clue as to what is really going on.
And no, I'm not really interested in your "jovians are a mystery and therefore all debates/discussions precluding to it must be stamped out in the most humiliating manner possible" babble. I want to know the score. So for the sake of me and everyone else who wants you to cut the and get to the chase, please answer the following goddamned questions, before I go insane and (attempt to) deliver my subscription fee to you in transatlantic scud missiles.
1. When will we be able to make jove characters? 2. When will jove items enter the game? 3. When will we get any real information on the planned items? 4. In fact, stuff the questions, just tell me everything you're willing to share. About Joves.
To save myself some time, I'll add the following disclaimer:
If you respond to this thread with a witty remark, snide remark, negative remark, or anything else of the sort, then you're a sad, lifeless and pitiful individual, who probably could've done with a mother whilst growing up (which you still haven't finished doing by the looks of it you immature little ). I hope daddykins confiscates your keyboard.
And no I've not had my coffee this morning. And no I didn't sleep last night either.

To be honest, probably "never" to anything regarding the Joves
1.) No one knows. Cept CCP and they're not telling. 2.) Some already are. Not turrets and such, but a few items like the Jove Ambassadors body parts. Besides, why do you care so much? Jove "stuff" won't be super duper items that just blow everything else away.
Other than that, who knows. I can't see CCP introducing the Joves as some uber advanced race with advanced ships and weapons cause that would just make all other races/ships/weapons useless. Everyone would be racing to own/fly Jove stuff so they can "pwn".

So... you start off bu insulting people and then you want people to answer your questions? Doesn't make much sense
Anyway, the only people who can answer question 1-3 are the devs, and I don't even think they have all the answers yet.
I'd answer 4, but I don't like it when people start off by flaming.

Who ever said anything about that?
I don't give a crap how good or bad they are, I just want one and I'd like to know if there is any point in wanting one or not. It's not exactly like it's gonna be hard to add them to the game - the devs have apparantly been cruising around in them for a while now, and as for characters, well just look at TomB.
Need I say more?
And if you don't like the flaming, tough luck. It's too early in the morning to care about what you think.
EDIT: Come to think of it, I think it would be rather interesting to play the game from the perspective of having really powerful stuff from the outset, but suffering from weaknesses which have never really been seen or even considered on the battlefield. Not pure ownage, just different advantages and disadvantages.

So in other words, you needn't have posted.
Great.
Whatever happened to spoilers? I don't care about the nonexistant thrill of the so called mystery. There are no clues, there is no possibility of ever discovering anything about jovians. Where is the mystery in that? Where is the thrill of the pursuit of information? You CCP guys could at least give some point, purpose or meaning to your "mystery".
Or failing that just give us some spoilers.

I agree that discussions about what Jove might be like and how it should work can be interesting and I would welcome that. But I also agree with some other posters that insulting everyone who doesn't say what you want them to say is the wrong way to make it happen.

If you want information on the Joves, look in Heaven. They might have left some information or something behind, but I doubt it.
Also read the background stories. That'll most likely be more informative.

And you think the tone of your first post is any better than the vandalism you mention here? In my experience, demanding something tends to annoy those who can give what you want to the extent that they refuse to share.
I highly doubt you will get any credible answers from this so I suggest you go chill out for a while and accept that some things are just meant to be kept secret till the time is right.

The only important thing we need to know about Jovians is this:
Do they like cake?
That is all.
Do the Jovians like cake? Or did evolution make a mistake? Did their seclusion so long Somehow go wrong? And they all forgot how to bake? ______________________________________________

Ive seen the stats for a jovian enigma frigate.
The slots alone are simply insane.
To put it bluntly i highly doubt CCP will put in anyhting other than jovian frigs, actually any jovian ships at all other than the enigma, for a LONG time,as currently maximum number of high slots is 8,because theres totally no space for anymore in the fitting screen.Which is why dreads and titans are gonna take a long time,as im sure CCP doesnt want titans to have 8 turrets only.
Secondly, jovians are intended as the "GM" race. Its kinda clear.Uber technology, uber ships, uber weapons, uber anything.......they were never desigend to be player usable. If CCP makes them usable then they are going to have to re-write a significant chunk of background info about their technological superiority, which we all know they will NEVER do.
Let me put it this way...tomB already made amaar ships THE godlike in this game simply because he thinks they are superior to all other empire,non-jove,ships.If he gets his hands on making jovian player ships.......
Enigma tanking 3 gankegeddons anyone?

They are just a race created so TomB and the rest of the Devs and Volunteers can feel special when they fly round in their Eidonlons etc.
Its basically a status thing as in 'look at me, my e-peen > yours '
Flying with them against Stain was great fun back in the days of Oracle Corp and I really expected the Jovian influx/storylines to expand (I kinda hoped that assisting them directly might have led to something exciting). Since then we've had a some body parts which also was a kinda cool event/story type thing and then pretty much nothing.
Now when the server is lagging real bad as usual one might turn up to watch. Watch = show off

I third that! CCP has manufactured some interesting lore, a great backdrop. Too bad they're handle putting it into active gameplay settings with almost complete failure. So much greatness imagined up, so little tangible content in game.

Hmm...Well even if the max slot currently is 8, it's pretty easy to make Jovian ships more powerfull. 1-> add a second layer of fitting 2-> double fire rate of said items
Jovian are supposed to be tech V users... So my hope is not to see them before a while. We are already in trouble to produce tech II items (and get BPOs, components...) so I cannot imagine what it will be when all 5 levels of technology are out (\_/) (O.o) (> <)=Oveur (proof) "Jumping 50 systems I can like, have sex 150 times during that period" |

this is just my dumb ass, half baked, ranting, noobish opinion..... but,
I think that jovians are the trump card for CCP. By remaining quiet about them they can be introduced in anyway CCP want.
They could start a war against the whole of eve or they could throw open thier borders in welcome to everyone. CCP aren't giving anything away as this might limit what they can do with them.
Personally I think we'll get to Tech III equipment, the jovians will see the rest of the universe as being a bigger abd bigger threat.. and there will be MASSIVE war.. "The universe" VS "The Jove"

Quick Reply,
I don't think the Jove will ever be flyable by non-GM related players (ccp employees).
I do believe, that sometime in the *distant* future, Jove space will be opened up through some kind of event (uber-event). Jove stations and Jove NPCing, as well as Jove mining will probably be available.
Who knows, maybe the event will be a "Jove Invasion" whereby most of the major ally with one another to stem the invasion.
Or we all could sit around a campfire, sing cumbaya, and mine veldspar until our frontal lobes rot from lack of use.

The idea Jovians will attack everyone is stupid! They are not mindless Zerg. If anything, they'll play the major powers off against eachother before finally claiming victory over the battered remains of the "victor".
We can already see some of this sneakyness in the way they were the first to recognise the player alliances - personally I think they recognise the NEW powers in eve :/ ------------

Edited by: Jiin on 25/01/2005 15:46:25 There's one thing in particular that I like about forums. Reading a 3+ page thread from the beginning to the end, you'll find at least 50% are the same posts using different words. Count how many people have said "I don't think Joves will be playable" and "Maybe there will be a Jove invasion" in this thread and then the number of posts, and you'll see that I'm more or less right. Do you people read the replies to a post at all? In my mind, responding with a post exactly like another is just.. stupid? It doesn't even cross my mind to do it. What's the thought behind it? "Hey look, here's a guy who said 'Jovians won't be playable'. I know, I'll do the same, except I'll type 'I don't think you can ever use Jovians'. No wait, that's already taken, I think I'll type 'Jovians are perma-NPC characters, you can't play them'. Great!"

how come so many people know whats inside the client code?
Obviously the EULA means nothing when it says you can't open up the code and stuff, if thats what you people do. But anyway.
Its almost impossible to tell if the Jove are going to be playable or not, and if they are, how they are going to come about. We should just all put it out our minds till CCP actually say something relevant about it.
But Jove space is definitely going to be opened up, but again, its almost impossible to say how...
Just leave the Jove alone! Let the devs run around trying to impres n00bs with their Joves characters if they want, they will either be available to us, or they wont, and we don't know which one, end of story. ----------------

When the time comes... For $29.95 you too can become a Jovian with a simple face-lift. For another $29.95 you can purchase exclusive rights to access Jovian space and set your claims, whether it's mining, exploration, or attacking a Jovian convoy. For another $29.95 you can gain access to Jovian technolgy so that your ship will be able to fit those all-powerful Jovian weapons and devices. For yet another $29.95 you can.... Dream On! Send your currency to me. Do it today, don't delay!

I might be wrong, but I sort of recall reading that the Jove were supposted to be a playable race. This was eventually dropped because they simply became too popular.

Jovians will be instituted as a player race in the future. When? Nobody on the CCP side is quite sure yet. How will it be implimented? Again, we're not sure. Tech? It will be introduced in content patches in the future.
Regarding the Enigma and Jovian ships, the stats are not set and will be changed in the future. The Enigma is intended more as a place holder than an actual ship that will see use in the space available to players. Jovian ships are not as "uber" as they were at initial launch and will also see a re-evaluation of their stats and equipment in the future.

Yeah, well I have the information I wanted. + a few laughs. People say that being a total on the EVE forums doesn't help but I disagree, reading the responses made me feel MUCH better.
So... in your face! Really rattled your cage didn't I? Yeah. Pwned.

It took three pages for a dev to respond to your post. If you had been nice about things, I'll wager it would have happened within three posts.

Question2

[66]
Well lets see.The basic sci-fic stuff is in :
Lasers Projectiles(autocanons, etc) Railguns(Though they do fall under the broad category of using a projectile...)
Whats left?
Gauss(Not going in,too similar to railguns) Plasma Fushion
Its little surprise that jovians will most likely use a mixture of rapid firing, plasma canons for close in,and fushion for long range, powerful shots.
Although balancing their stuff with the backgrounds gonna be a tiny bit difficult,as the background currently potrays jovian ship and weapons as godlike.
Current racial advantages :
Amaar - Slow, but can tank very well(aka best for NPC and PVP) Caldari-Nice shields, ridiculously nice missles(best for NPC) Gallente-Er....blasters?Armor tanking? Minmatar-Er....faster by about 20 M/S?Weapons dont use cap?(kinda pointless since the cap on minny ships is low, meaning its not an uber tank as you would imagine)
So where do jovians fit in?

How can you say that while I still carry our child?
Originally by: Question2

Plasma is the same as what blasters are, and fusion isn't really a weapon... just a kind of nuclear reaction I think.
I'd reckon some kind of phase-weapon like zero-point or, something that channels energy from outside our "plane" of the universe. (might sound strange, but it is already theorised today)
From what I saw on TomB's Eidolon, Jovians actually use a mishmash of all weapons from other races I have a screenshot of his mounts at home.
And the weapons on his ship too ------------

They are going to use cake cannons!! after all cakes are apparently the source of thier power
For close in work they'll have blasters that fire anti-matter chocolate cake sprinkles at 99.9% the speed of light which anhilate on contact with sheilds/ships hulls

I disagree,blasters are not plasma.
Fushion weapons are in sci-fic,and generally involve very slow weapons firing large blasts doing a mixture of kinetic, thermal and energy damage.

I just want to see the JoveÆs have radically different weapons. Not necessarily uber, just not the same **** re-labelled.
Perhaps more area effect weapons, e.g. perhaps...
BS Module that gives 10K warp disruption bubble around ship.
Large gravity wave generator that pushes all ships near you 60km out (be use to keep other ships at range, or for escape). (would look just like what happens at the moment when someone bumps you ).
Transporters for stealing cargo once shields are down, or some sort of hull cutting laser.
Shield linking array that allows ships close to each other to automatically share their shields with each other (5 ravens ).
Obviously they all have to be balanced, but I would rather see more weapons with unique advantages, but with perhaps a lot higher fitting requirements, than just clones of a lot of the existing stuff with just slightly different specs IMHO.

In answer to q. 1 - I remember reading a few months back in one of the dev chats that Players will only be able to become Jove by special invitation.
