So, wait, what, do you have a crapload of hills and potholes or something ? Because normally, at worst, a bit of snow even you have summer wheels means you just have to slow down a bit and that's about it. Or is everybody around a friggin' moron and speed through snow-covered roads like it's the middle of August ?
P.S. How far away from home were you ? Because if you were closer than, say, 15 miles... you could have just walked home much faster.

This is Washington DC. The traffic is bad(baaaaad[the wooooooorst]) and the motorway is even worse. It is almost people's JOB to go out and block traffic. Taking what would be a four hour detour around the city actually saves time when travelling past. Also, sounds as many of the poor folk really did decide to walk home and abandon their costly toys. |

Traffic would be just fine if people and companies didn't decide on having everyone in the world show up at the same exact freakin time. Space it out man jeeze.

Then again, anything turns the beltway into the nation's larges parking lot. Snow, rain, sunlight, light breeze, kittens farting...
Beltway? Rofl, by the time I got to the Beltway it was almost COMPLETLY empty because everyone was still stuck inside the city. I spent about 6-7 of those hours trying to navigate Wisconsin Avenue. I saved at least 2-3 hours plowing through backroads that everyone was too scared to drive on. It was crazy Wisconsin one average was traveling about 1 mile per hour yet NO ONE would turn on the backroads. I went from 1 mph on the main road to 5-10 MPH on the backroads and usually managed to bypass 4-5 blocks of the mess before I was forced onto the main road again.

How much snow did you get? I remember living in Herndon VA (30 minutes from DC) when I was a 9, 10 and 11 and we would regularly get snow that came up to my chest, nothing like that ever happened that I can remember. - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

Seems they may have gotten like 19" of snow, last time Chicago got that (in the space of 5 hours) it shut the city down for 3 days lol.
Good luck, hope you don't have to go to work tomorrow :P - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

19" sounds about right. We got 12-14+ here in North NJ, again. *sigh*
While I don't mind snow every now and then (mostly for the challenge), this 'every 4-5 days' nonsense is tiring. Been no good chance for any of it to melt, and as of today many streets are so piled up they're practically one-way (something I'm very familiar with, as I lived in Hoboken just before moving near to work - my god, good timing there).
I've begun to just drop the car off at work (in a garage) before the snow hits, walk home in the morning (only a mile) and come back in the afternoon to pick the car up so I can park it on the (now properly cleared) street at the house.
[I'll add that I own a 2nd Gen Prius, with recently replaced tires (Cooper OC4s) - good timing for that too.]

Actually, Washington DC was fine. It took me 20 minutes to get from my job in Alexandria, and the streets in DC were plowed very early on. It was everyone who lives in the burbs that screwed things up...

I live on Wisconsin Avenue and it definitely wasn't as bad as you're saying. I certainly didn't see any cars abandoned on the street either, are we in the same DC?

You think that's bad? You're used to it over there, in England we get one inch of snow and the whole place grinds to a halt and people act as if its the apocalypse.

Hah I was about to troll post and say in the UK when we get a bit of adverse weather people moan and the trains, roads, airports grind to a halt. In snowy Nordic countries their airports are open most winters.
