How many of you out there are Carebears turned Low-Sec pilots? I've been mission running for awhile now, but I noticed that all my goals were essentially better ships for... mission running. I've never actually gone into low sec space, except that one silly noob trip back in the day to .4 to get stuff I naively bought.
Yet as much as I want to go out there, I'm terrified of getting my pod popped and I heart my implants. Even if I get over this, I still have NO idea where to start. Is there any place for a tiny corp to head out into 0.0 space or should I join up with some people who know what they're doing?

Join up with someone who knows what they are doing, and stop being afraid.
Originally by: CCP Navigator Great story but you probably want this in CAOD so feel free to post there with your main.

And perhaps get a jumpclone before venturing to lowsec or nullsec so if you do get podded, you dont loose your (possibly expensive) implants.

Get a jumpclone if you're that paranoid about it.
When you know you're going to pop start spamming warp to something and you'll get your pod out intact 99% of the time. The only time I've lost a pod in lowsec my client froze when I popped, it's very rare if someone can lock you down before getting your pod out.
Most of lowsec is empty, there's nothing to fear really.
0.0 is another story, you most likely will lose your pod if you get blown up. I usually jump to a clean clone before going to null sec. - - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring

If you can fly a Covert Ops, that would be a nice ship for traveling in lowsec. No bubbles so "pretty much" no way to get podded. Fly around a little, keep an eye on overview, use directional scanner if you uncloak. Create safespots if needed (if you are going to stay in system). Not all of lowsec is active so my tip would be to fly out there, check where ppl are, what kind of people (shiptypes, corporation etc).
Or simply join a lowsec corp, they can teach you all you need to know. Nullsec corps are also good in teaching how to survive and a lot of it applies in lowsec too (less blobs, no bubbles). Treat everyone as an enemy out to get you.

get a jump clone and a cheap ship insure it and go have fun, the only thing that might get hurt is your pride. You'll still have your implants, you'll get most of your isk back if you lose it. There really nothing stopping you

Just wanted to thank everybody for the replies. Today I scanned down my first wormhole, and lost my ship in said wormhole. Low-sec has thus forced me to branch out and appreciate various areas of the game at once (manufacturing to replace stuff without flying out to Jita, mining to support said manufacturing, scanning to keep myself occupied, pvp to keep myself alive), all of which are aspects of the game that seem worlds apart or that at least take a much more conscious effort to unite in high security space.
Also, I've overcome my fear of being podded. Didn't stop me from spamming warp when my ship got popped though :D
See you out there!

This is exactly right, more pressure on you to'branch out' and learn and develop within the game, and you can only benefit from that. You have a good attitude, and I hope you have fun in Low, and yeah, keep spamming warp!

Getting over the first podding helps you realise that it's not that big a deal, though once you get used to spamming the warp button (or the S key now they've brought that in as a shortcut) you shouldn't have many losses like that. ------------------------------------------------ Quafe is people! |

If you can afford +4s you can afford replacements too aka don't plug in what you can't afford. Honestly though if you get podded in lowsec you either have a: an extremely bad connection or b: extremely poor reflexes to not have spammed the warp to button the second you entered structure.

"I'm terrified of getting my pod popped and I heart my implants" Just another good reason why almost everybody ganks, and decent pvp is scarce in this game.

Edited by: Skavirr on 29/01/2011 00:56:33 If you want to get into pvp with relatively little cost, join RVB. 2 corps in a perma war dec based in high sec. http://rvb.tech-pc.com
Alternatively, EVE University is a good bet.
