Since the big patch this year my eve won't start any more on my windows XP. I reinstalled the whole eve client but nothing changed. My system is up to date and I just updated my video driver too. All the same. EVE shows splash screen and then disappears leaving ExeFile.exe in my tasks. Ideas?

I'm experiencing the same problem, with a clean install of eve on a "new" (recently reformatted) computer -- so I'm at least pretty sure its not corrupted settings issues. As with the OP, the splash screen shows, then goes away, leaving exefile.exe running, using a steady 87.4mb, but no game. ---------- I have inflatable toast Your arguments hardly matter |

For some reason one of the recent patches deleted all of my 32 bit libraries and i had to reinstall them, that could be your problem. My experience was very similar.

Of which libraries do you talk about? A clean and fresh install of eve didn't changed anything. The repairtool failes also.. I'm stuck with my ideas...

If anyone hears of a fix let me know. I had same problem with first big patch. About a week later it started working by itself. Then downloaded last patch and boom. Same problem. Have tried every fix I can find in the forums and nothing works for me. I am using Windows Vista.

Right click on ExeFile and choose properties. Go to compatibility tab. Check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" Choose Windows XP (Service Pack 2) Apply
Than I Opened the ExeFile directly. It brings up the login screen. I still cannot go through the splash screen but I can login and play. Yeeeeee Haw

Unfortunately I'm using XP sp 2 and I'm still having this issue. Using repair had no effect.
Testing other compatibility modes didn't do the trick, but I did notice that when testing in win2000 compatibility mode (and also when testing with 256 color mode) that ExeFile.exe's memory usage briefly went up to 101-110, before dropping back to a static usage of ~88mb. I'm not sure what, if anything, the extra jump in activity represents. ---------- I have inflatable toast Your arguments hardly matter |

This problem happened to me as well. Turned out that EVE needed a D3DX DLL that wasn't installed on the machine. Try going to the DirectX WWW site and try using the WWW installer there. That installs all the D3DX DLLs, including the one used by EVE.

Try running EVE in safe mode (you will find the safe mode exe file in your EVE folder).
This should fix it.

After I finished updating my portrait, I logged in and got a black screen. Chat windows appeared, and after undocking overview came up. I was also able to open all my windows (character, contacts, etc...) but no graphics. I logged off and tried to restart my client, but I couldn't get past the log in screen. (the charachter selection screen briefly appeared before the client restarted taking me back to the login).
I tried safe mode - it prompted me to update the client repeatedly. after doing this a couple times, I chose not to update, but the client still wouldn't allow me to proceed to character selection.

Updated DirectX, tried safemode... unfortunately same behavior. Splash screen, then ExeFile.exe using up to 100 or so mb before dropping back to a stable 88mb and doing nothing :( ---------- I have inflatable toast Your arguments hardly matter |

Having the exact same problem on a unit I just assembled so I could multibox more efficiently.
Specs: Windows XP 32bit 2.5GB DDR2 533 Intel 3.0Ghz LGA 775 Pentium D NVIDIA GeForce 6800 (old but it doesn't really need the power for what I'm doing)
This is a fresh install. There's literally nothing on the computer aside from XP, the most up-to-date drivers, and EVE.
I get to the splash screen, it shows up minimized in the task bar - nothing else. I tried the fixes in this thread, nothing worked.
Here's a pastebin of the entire logfile: http://pastebin.com/xv3hFX4W
This is extremely frustrating. I hope I don't have to reinstall and deal with this on my main computer anytime soon.

I'm not saying there is not something comming from them that doesn't s'hits your computer, however I belive that if I'm the worst software fan boy guy you'll ever know, in harware I'm not that ridiculous, and from my very recent experience I wouldn't throw them this rock of issue. Update your system and drivers. Some will need "Admin" rights to work properly and this s'hit doesn't comes from CCP.

I just suffered the same problem... Eve was working 2 days ago last time I played but tonight just the splash screen would come up and then nothing although the process was running in the task manager.
I got 2 installs of eve on my pc and the 2nd one was working fine so I copied it over to my other directory and it did the same thing. So I manually went and renamed my cache directory of the install of eve that was causing probs to another name and restarted eve and bingo it worked. This might not help some but it might help a few.

System is up to date, audio, graphics, directx, windows all up to date.
And yes I would say it is purely there fault as I upgrade to windows 7 on 2 machines (perfectly working machines) and both cant play eve, I am just glad I never done it on my laptop so i can at least login and skill change.
I thought I had a bad install that borked my windows so had to do a complete format. Everything else is working fine besides eve, literally just eve.
I am also admin on pc, I dont run without admin on anything.

In most cases when the client does not get past the splash screen after starting, the steps below will currently, to our experience, help in almost all of the cases (some of this has been mentioned before already). While the symptoms are the same, there are two different approaches to solve them depending on the operating system used on your machine.
On Windows XP: Install the correct version from the list that has been posted by Viktor Rasmussen already: http://archive.msdn.microsoft.com/KB961894/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=2067
In most cases, you will want the ENU version of vcredist_x86.exe (English 32bit Windows XP).
On Windows 7: Reinstall DirectX using either the DXSETUP.exe within the \bin\DirectX folder of your client installation, or use the following DirectX installer: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=3b170b25-abab-4bc3-ae91-50ceb6d8fa8d
If you have done this and the client still doesn't start beyond the splash screen, then please catch a startup attempt with our logserver tool, then create a petition in the Technical Support -> Crashes/Lockups category and attach your logserver log of the startup attempt to it so we can take a closer look.

All of this still does not work for me, windows 7 pro. 64 bit, click Eve splash screen comes up then goes away go to task manager and it is in there, never had the problem in the 7+ years I have been playing Eve until I got this new rig, I was using windows XP 32 bit and no problems I have been trying to fix this for almost 2 weeks now and nothing is working and I really do not want to end my days on Eve. Doesn't work for me either. Win7 64Bit. After the splash only black screen, no sound and a forced reboot of my machine is necessary to use my machine again. Catalyst Control Center 10.12 atm. But also used the latest one, no difference. Can't make a proper log file either since the screen is totally black and I can't save the log afterwards...

Edited by: JonasML on 24/04/2011 17:57:23 Same problem as all these people. FORTUNATELY I have also got a laptop with hardware/software damn close to my recently re-installed desktop. Now I have a slow connection, living in the country as I do. I have previously copied EVE from one machine to another with no issues, though it is not may favorite thing in the world to do. I have copied eve from laptop to desktop, EVERYTHING, not only the /eve/ directory, also anything under users, program data, when I say everything I mean everything. What I haven't done is completely recopy my windows directory and all files in it (see below for possible missing file clues).
A few questions for CCP:
Who/where do I send the log files from each? The laptop runs, desktop, which has the same 32-bit Windows Vista, along with .NET and DX10, does not. Have logs from both, to compare successful and unsuccessful loadup.
In an effort to speed things up I've looked over the logs myself comparing the 2. Except for a few more "timeslice warning" on the laptop log (it is a slightly slower machine) they are the same. The major issue I found was line 386 (laptop)/381(desktop). My laptop says that the Trinity module starts, next line Direct3d, blah blah etc it works. The desktop says
"execute failed on ('script:/../../../carbon/client/script/graphics/device.py', 'compiled'): ('DLL load failed: The specified module could not be found.', '_trinity', 'trinity')"
and then is followed by
"execute failed on ('script:/../../../carbon/client/script/graphics/graphicWrappers/loadAndWrap.py', 'compiled'): ('DLL load failed: The specified module could not be found.', '_trinity', 'trinity')"
So, does EVE do some .dll file additions? And what are they? I can root them out if I can get some names from the appropriate directories on the laptop. If I can copy them over that will save me another 4-8 hours of downloading the full eve install (as I said, slow connection).
Again, I have used this copy process in the past to update the desktop after major patches (hehehe work has nice shiny T1, my little laptop zooms away)and never had any issues with it. Up until my unrelated HD crash that is.
And Happy Easter. Wish I had this issue last week as I might get answers before the download finishes lol.

If your client is still in task manager or on the task bar then hit alt-enter thats Alt then Enter. This should fix ur issue.
As for the other errors when the client closes right after the splash im sorry. Im having the same issue.
