We've seen T2 interceptors and assault frigates come out, we've seen T2 cruisers, and they're lovely and all... but for tech 2 battleships, could we have an approach to modelling that's something other than "take this T1 ship, dip it in glue and roll it around in spare pieces from an airplane model kit"? These things are gonna require like, two months of training just to get into, and cost a bajillion ISK, and I want them to look totally totally cool.
If you look at the Zealot model, the extra engines are uneven (one is stuck partly in the hull) and you can see clear through the ship from the bottom because someone forgot to texture down there. Zealot is so similar to the Omen in appearance that I've actually used that as a tactical advantage, tricking people into thinking I'm just flying an Omen. The Apoc's underside seems to be the result of the guy who does the skins looking at his watch, seeing it's late, and going "Aw hell, time to go home, I'll just throw a bunch of gradients down there, no-one will notice". Seeing as ships are the avatar in this game, and people stare at them obsessively from every possible angle, a little more attention to detail would be spiffy.
I want the T2 Apocalypse to have a whole mess of extra armor plating all over it, make it look like an ironclad or something. How about floating armor plates like you see on the Auguror. Use the totally hot red/gold color scheme from Crusaders. I want these ships to look so hot, that when I fly through Yulai in one, everyone who spots it immediately falls to their knees and recognizes my superiority as a human being for owning one.

Signed.
The retribution/vengeances skins look very low res and crappy as well.
Assault cruisers mostly look like crap. The sacrilege is the only one that really looks pretty neat. The deimos is a joke, camo in space with toxic green trails? WTF?
For armor heavy ships like the zealot, lets see some plates like Istvaan suggested. For shield heavy, throw in some shield generators.

The wolf looks like beast fully armed. And the Jaguar looks sexy. I'll admit, im a Rifter lover. Hands down, so maybe im biased there.
But, anything that makes what you have on your screen most of the time look even more swish, then hell, go for it.

About the only ships that look like they've had a huge effort are the Khanid ones - they just look so damn fine.
Id like a t2 Raven that is more than just a raven with a lick of camo paint, it needs to ooze power and menace to everyone within a 3 system radius.

Josh, saying "I'd rather they fix bugs" makes no sense because the art team doesn't fix bugs in the first place, as far as I know.
Most of the problems seem to be on Amarr ships, come to think of it. Missing textures, detached ship segments...

Maybe the art team r minmatar and biased to amarr ships lol.
But a few fixes in details would be nice. The claw needs something different than lookin like a slasher. It may be a tactical advantage bt that is gone if some1 decide to use show info button. Id rather see the claw with a colour scheme similar to the wolf. (\_/) (O.o) (> <) This is Bunny. Copy Bunny into your signature to help him on his way to world domination.

So why dont the art team fix all the graphical bugs like all the ships with missing engine trails or the guns that dont show on some ships

What what WHAT? The Deimos looks damn awesome - especially when pimped out with T2 guns, although an extra engine or something would look really, really cool.
But generally I agree, and we know the community can have an impact - just look at what they did to the Megathron and Thorax skins after everyone moaned for a while. I also hope that the T2 Battleships aren't going to be 'Super-Heavy-Assault' ships, and that they spice them up a little with 'Flagships' etc etc. Oh, I never noticed the underside of my Apocalypse before, but by golly it is ugly! I mean, it's already ugly, but DAMN!

I love this game and everything in it.
BUT why are these the UGLIEST ship models in the known universe???
Hell, even TIE fighters look cool, and that's from Star wars!
Every race has some cool ships (rifter, thorax, thron, omen, geddon), but 90% of them are crappy. Who in their right mind would run around in a tempest skin, if there was an option? Some guys wanted a mammoth skin on their Tempests!
Golden magnate rocks, so does most of the Battlecruisers. Get those guys on re-designing the old ships =)

I really hate the Deimos' looks too, mainly because of the colors. The yellow and the kitschy green exhaust trails combine to make it look like some pathetic Micro Machines toy from a kiddies' science fiction franchise. The Ishtar, Helios and Ishkur, while possessing nice blue highlights, have an equally kitschy green color. Again, revoltingly childish (and the poor Ishkur's crappy antennas only exacerbate the problem).
Generally, I don't mind the "take this T1 ship, dip it in glue and roll it around in spare pieces from an airplane model kit" approach, so long as the colors aren't pathetically inappropriate (see above) and the bits aren't too conspicuously out of place (see Harpy, Ishkur, Helios).
One aspect of the current design approach I really like is a pattern on the ship hull (see Hawk and Deimos) and reflective ship parts (see Taranis). Those really make it a different ship, while keeping the basic identity intact.

Well, I'd also like to point out that the 2 large engine pods on the Hawk Assault ship aren't even. Look at it top-down while docked in a station and you'll see what I mean. One of them is set back a tiny bit farther than the other. Not something super-noticible, but it does bug me a tiny bit.
I'd also like to see an option for higher-rez skins on the graphics menu. As far as I know, art developers always make the original skin as detailed as possible, then lower the quality as necessary to conserve memory. So, those high-resolution skins should be still available, all CCP would need to do is upload them to us and allow us to apply them if we so choose (and we've got the computer to handle it). That would totally kick ass.

personaly, i HATE the extra set of 'wings' on the back of the wolf.... it angered me when i saw that they look like they were pulled off a claw (i hate their 'feathered' look anyway, space ships dont need feathers). but the 2 back wings of the wolf look so out of place... just the 2 in the middle wouldnt bother me as much.

I personally like the look of just about every ship, but at the end of the day I always feel the t2 models (inters, AF, HAC) we're a rush job. Are we really supposed to believe that the original art team worked on these, most look like they just got there ass kicked by a crayon. Seriously though I'd be willing to wait a bit longer if the t2 ships could be a bit more original or at least polished.

Amarr ships look like they were designed by the lowest bidder. Probably a nepotism based contract in the Amarr Empire. Why would anybody want to fly around in ships that look like brass whales? At least change the skin to metallic pink, or put a hood over them to cover them up.

Definetly signed. Reusing old artwork is bad, especially since modelling a ship (even if CCP has a very slow art pipeline) doesn't take all that long. Frankly, I can't imagine what the art team is so busy with that they can't model new ships, judging from the amount of new art I see appearing in game over time. Unless the art team consists of one concept artist and one modeller.
Btw, can CCP FIX THE DAMN UNATTACHED GUNS PLEASE??? I mean, it can't be THAT HARD to fix a gun's barrel so it's actually attached to it's base!

First of all, I love the way my Wolf looks. It is by far the hottest ship in the game.
That being said, I must say that I support the reuse of old ship models. These tech2 ships aren't supposed to be new ships. They're custom jobs built out of the existing hull classes. It's like tricking out the engine on a car and giving it chrome plating, etc.
Originally by: EtherealPain personaly, i HATE the extra set of 'wings' on the back of the wolf.... it angered me when i saw that they look like they were pulled off a claw (i hate their 'feathered' look anyway, space ships dont need feathers). but the 2 back wings of the wolf look so out of place... just the 2 in the middle wouldnt bother me as much.

Those "wings" are heat sinks to vent off the massive heat that all that fancy hardware gives off. Tech1 ships have heat sinks that look like solar panels. Tech2 ships are more high tech and use more advanced materials for their sinks.
And Atandros, the micro machines colors fit with the Gallente style. Look at the Gallente ship names; I think they must be transformers or something. *Watches as a Megathron next to him transforms into a giant robot.* =D

It is quite amazing how many models have issuesą all of which detract from the immersion significantly, not to mention the let down of spending countless days training and building up cash to fly defective products, much like getting cold fries at McDonalds. - Typhoon still has inverted normals on the back sectioną it is inside out. - Just noticed the maledictionĘs left wing is not at the same angle as the right and the use of mining lasers for engines is a tad lame. - Both of the above ships donĘt render parts of the ship while docked from certain angles (the billboard surfaces). - Many ships have engine trails that donĘt line up.
Of course the recently added bugs with exodus:
- undocking at weird angles. - docked ships not showing all turrets mounted.
The one thing that exodus added that I can be happy for (okay maybe thereĘs more than one)ą my mal shows all three mounted turrets in a cool staggered pattern, at least when undocked.
These issues are ranked with the lowest priority possible, which I think is unfortunate. Either that or there are some significant technical issues which prevent them from fixing them. And yet another potential option, CCP doesnĘt care.
A complete bug list with every bug, regardless of how insignificant CPP thinks the particular bugs are, would be a good start. At least then IĘd know they recognize that someone cares.

I don't support shotty jobs. I don't support ships with holes in the bottom or ships with gradiants put in the place of a forgotten texture. However, none of the ships I have flown have exibited such things.
Well, if I look really hard, I'm quite sure the pair of little fins with antennae that stick out on the bottom of my Wolf aren't at the exact same angle. It's barely noticable, though, and I might just be imagining things. I just tell myself that I must have bent it by banging into something while docking...
