I have finished.
Siigari is complete. Hopefully, it no longer looks like I have the face of a chronic hemorrhoid sufferer.
Being an art major in college, I actually didn't take portrait photography. I studied a lot of music. Way back in high school, I took pictures for my senior yearbook, and also did a lot of production photo work on the side. I never had much control over the lighting, however, so many of my pictures needed a lot of time in the dark room dodging and burning to get effects I wanted.
Man I miss that dark room. That was a fun place where I could spend my free time just developing photos and printing my great stuff.
I love my photo.
(on a sidenote, in-game the photo is VERY aliased. But other 32px portraits in-game, and my portrait in the browser it is very smooth. Thoughts?)

Think it's you, It not the head neck ratio that looks wrong, what looks wrong to me mainly is the expression on her face.

Hey Sig! Like the new avatar, it somehow fits in with the old one aswel but if I was to point something out I'd say shes got abit too much lip gloss on.
I just finished mine and I already wanna redo it, I look like an albino! And the eyebrows werent this color in the char creation screen!

Lol, yeah you could use a slight makeover. But the depth in the eyes is amazing! It's not quite counterbalanced by the flatness of the background though. But, I likes it :3

Four days to produce something that looks like it took less than ten minutes to make.
Congrats?

That's a little unfair, it can easily take 10 minutes just to get the pose you want.
Although should have been able to get those results in 1 hour.
Unless you're very lucky with random, then it can take less than 10 minutes.
Think the 4 days was probably just experimenting with the creator, rather than working on one portrait.

I won't comment on the general look and feel because only you know what kind of character you want to express, which comes down to personal taste.
I have to agree that the lip colour/gloss are a bit overdone. It distracts the attention a bit from the eyes which - are really decently done! In your case I would have made the lips a bit less dark and glossy.

Yeah. I spent four days logging in, messing around and being generally satisfied but not completely happy with the results. So I'd log in and play instead.
Finally, I broke down and finished the job. Took me a little under an hour to finalize, I think.

In all your "Siigari's" since beta I've thought the proportions are a bit out of shape. Especially the cheekbone/cheek area. Your current is an improvement compared to the first ones, but still, the expression/lighting/facial proportions do not give a universally pleasing end result. Personally I would raise the cheekbone a bit and play with the cheek area a bit more (from sideview move the control area near the mouth forward and backwards and from front control the gaunt/puffiness look).
She's looking like not being sure if smiling is appropriate or not. When you raise the inner eyebrow with the smile easily creates a look of being unsure, shamed or slightly sad. There's no spark.
Sorry to be harsh. |

When you completed the character creation then your client saved the locally rendered picture for temporary local use but sent the parameters of your character to the EVE Image Server for detailed rendering for EVE Gate and clients. Your client will pick that image up in about a day and replace the locally rendered version.
You can pick it up earlier by deleting your cache. On Windows XP then delete this folder C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility\cache.

I'm fine with your comments, only they're out of line because I was opting for a neutral image where the viewer could take anything from it.
I knew exactly what I wanted this time around, and I acquired it. It's not meant to be a genuine smile but a question of what Siigari is thinking.
edit: originally the face was smirking from her left side up. I opted to start raising the right side (front facing) and wound up with what I wanted.

There is a line very noticeable on my image on both the 256 and the 512 versions of my portrait near the lip.

Will that go away as well in a day or so? Or do I need to re-edit my character again? (I'm out of edits!)

I love my photo.
The small avatar form of your portrait looks nice. But still just as good as what the random button could have done, to be frank.
And up close it looks terrible, at least for my tastes. Whenever people cake on the make-up with this new character creator, it reminds me of the horrific Mimi from The Drew Carey Show, or just 50+ year old women in general who cover themselves in bright colored make-up.
I suppose some people think this style of make-up looks nice. I won't ever understand that, personally. The trend these modern days (in real life) is subtle make-up that doesn't stand out so much.
When you said 4 days of 'meticulous' work and on top of that stated you are an art major, I really expected something much more amazing, and I think a lot of other people did too, heh. You really should have just posted in the "rate the avatar above me thread", tbh. Because posting a whole separate topic and on top of that adding in that your an art major who spent 4 'meticulous' days on your avatar- you're going to get a lot of flak.
If this would have been one of the general rate threads already up, I would have given it a 7 out of 10, since the small form of the avatar isn't that bad and you did well on the facial structure. With a bonus since I'm nicer on such threads.
But since you've created this whole new topic and yada yada yada, my rating for it is definitely a 5/10, at best. If only you would have had a more subtle make-up and not that terrible bright blue and red make-up causing my eyes to bleed, I would have probably said 9/10 or 10/10, tbh. The clown make-up really ruins it. But like I said, that's just my tastes.

Is it any specific reason why the parameters regarding pose and light can't be retrieved from the server when we do the re-customizations? It is pretty annoying to redo the pose just because you changed hair colour.

Death Cell, my previous incarnation of this avatar had less makeup.
But, it was missing some punch. It was missing the ORIGINAL Siigari.

So, now I am left with my final version which I like a considerable bit more. Unfortunately CCP did some serious fudging with the way muscles work in the face (try to smile. Your upper lip should flatten and spread, not extend from the ends. Also, what's this about having to drop your jaw to show teeth? grr) and it wound up causing me distress. So I went for the 50/50 approach and delivered two faces in one. Which is what I shot for.
So now I've gotten a VERY CLOSE REPLICA of the original Siigari. I think. I approve :D

That's rather a silly thing to say. The random generator is capable of making the best portrait you can make, regardless of peoples taste (would just be a different portrait).
Just that the odds are stacked against it happening.

This!
Also we need more freedom in moving characters up or down when zoomed in. More often than not the forehead is in the middle of the pic, while the chin gets cut off. It is fixable by moving the character to weird angles and then click on a different pose till you get, after a lot of clicking, a closeup shot where the chin doesn't get cut off.
- Anyways to the op:

In this you failed in my opinion. Your character looks very insecure, a look caused mainly by the eyebrows, however the clown makeup reinforces this, it is as if your character is thinking "will this make me look pretty ... why does nobody talk to me.. ?"
Guess you were asking for feedback but I just don't see what you where going for here.

This is like American Idol where some of the tryouts believe without a fail that they are fantastic singers.
I guess in the end what matters is that one is happy with what they created. But do not expect others to agree fully, especially when you put yourself up on the pedestal.
Old Siigari was much prettier to my eyes. The nose is very different, the expression very different, fuller lips, etc... I think you've gotten yourself stuck in the details and forgot to look face as a whole. |
