I think the OP was after great compositions, not neccessarily pretty avatars. Your fav hardly has outstanding shadows or background.
I might have a hard time with this, even my artwork never features backgrounds, haha.

My attempt at recreating Heavy Weapons Guy was a total failure, but the portrait wasn't half bad lookin x3

Ya, everytime you press PrtScr it adds a full rez screenshot to your "Screenshots" folder =9 You just can't look at your avatar after you've finalized Dx Photobucket is nice too.
