Please accept our apologies for the delay, we had to check this with several departments within CCP to get all the facts straight.
We have concluded our investigation of this issue and found that the warp bubbles were offlined by an issue with warp bubble proximity to POS forcefields, i.e. warp bubbles placed close to the forcefields are in danger of going offline after downtimes.
The critical distance is around 12 km from the edge of the forcefield. So, the center of warp bubble must be farther than 42 km away from the control tower (for a large POS where forcefield radius is 30 km). Placing bubbles outside of this range should be enough to ensure they stay online after downtime.
The mechanics involved are being tuned and this matter should be cleared up soon. GM Grimmi

You could probably even fit the data change into the next incremental release!

So is it, or is it not, supposed to be possible to use warp disruption bubbles to prevent supercapitals from being able to warp away from a POS?
It has been a widely accepted tactic that has been used up to this point. Is this "condition" a recent one?

Edited by: Fuujin on 01/02/2011 15:42:42 So you're saying it's impossible to reliably trap a capital/supercapital in a tower then, as even a t2 large bubble has a 40km radius--leaving a small area immediately around the tower that is disruption free.
Also, the claim of 30km for the radius of a large tower's shield is not correct. You actually have to be several KM closer than that to be on the immediate outside border of the shield.
Please play your game.

I like how CCP left out serval other towers in system that were setup exactly the same, yet were not affected by this bug, clearly someone has tampered with the database for so few bubbles to be affected. Last time I checked SQL didn't pick and chose records to alter... Gossamer |

I find it hard to believe that such a long accepted tactic has suddenly developed this 'issue'.
Does the development team feel its appropriate to be working on newer features when implemented features with critical day to day implications, such as fleet lag and now apparently drag bubbles, have crippling bugs and implications that go largely unaddressed.
I sincerely hope you next expansion is called "Nullsecbugandlagfixia".

"I like how CCP left out serval other towers in system that were setup exactly the same, yet were not affected by this bug,"
I have no dog in this fight but that is a rather silly statement. You know the bubbles on those towers that did not go down were at the EXACT same distance? Because its easy to anchor an item that looks to the eye as pretty close but be off by a few K and as their number shows, all it takes is a few K closer or further away to go down.
Its a ****ty bug that had ****ty results but there is clearly a very small margin for error if the bubbles are in that range.
They should just put that T2s back to their original size. Not hacking it in 0.0 since 2006

A very very disappointing report CCP
I'm not involved with any of the Alliance's on either side of the conflict but as a member of the player base I expected much more detail about your investigation and what it entailed. Simply saying that bubbles kinda work sometimes and not other times is unacceptable.
Considering the checkered past of CCP employee[s] abusing their position, CCP should have gone above and beyond to answer all issues that have been raised by the players over the last week in relation to this incident. Proof to back up all answers should also be provided.
CCP, you have really let yourself down with this response whether it be truthful or not. You have lost a lot of credit with me for one and I'm guessing many many more also.
Truly disappointed Spart

I think people need to calm down just a little. They gave an answer (one that seems like it shouldn't be a surprise as people have commented this has happened before) AND they've said it will (hopefully) be resolved.
Expressing anger is fine, but I don't think name calling is going to win you any favours with the programmers tasked with fixing it. If I were them, I'd be much more willing to work to resolve an issue when I wasn't getting virtually spat on by the people I was trying to help.

Not empty quoting. As much as we pay their salaries, I don't think that they will do any more than give us a cold explaination in the future if we continue to berate them.

I also don't think there's any use in berating CCP like this; we should keep this constructive.
Focus needs to be kept on the fact that, with a 12km buffer around a 30 +/- 4km POS shield, even T2 large bubbles from every possible angle will leave a small area of 4-8km surrounding the POS tower from whence ships may jump out of system.
I have posted this thread: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1460761 in features and discussion; let's see if we can get traction behind it there.

Pretty simple fix is to ensure bubbles cant be anchored in the area and instead make large t2 bubbles like 55km bubbles. ------------------------ To make a megathron from scratch, you must first invent the eve universe.

GM Grimmi,
Could you please give us an answer as to why it was only the bubbles on that POS that went down, even though there were bubbles around other POS that by your definition of the problem should have also offlined?
Also, what has caused this issue, as it has never been an issue in the past?
Cheers. |

Its plausible that, because of the knowledge that supercaps were logged off in those particular towers, those who placed the bubbles put them slightly closer to the tower to "guarantee" full coverage than those bubbles placed around subcap towers, and so fell foul of the offlining bug.
That's obviously impossible to prove one way or the other though. |

They've got IT members in 'several departments' that's all you need to know right there.
Anybody still at college etc, well I'm sorry to say this is a good lesson for when you leave school, learn from it.
