Edited by: ChrisDude70 on 02/02/2011 14:06:04 There are 4664 pages in general discussion!
First, a little background as to how I came to this point. I was scrolling through general discussion, browsing the various threads, when I had a thought: I wonder how many pages the forums have? I had never bothered to look.
So I scroll down to the bottom of the page, and SHOCK! 4664 pages!
So, being curious, I clicked the last page.
What I found was a treasure trove of memorablila from all the way back in the BETA phase of EVE Online.
Tales of Mining and PvP, Whines about unbalence and bugs, complaints about all manner of game aspects.
I realised something, from the beginning of this game,to the current day, the forums have not changed at all. The same trolling and bickerin as well as helpful and creative players.
The point of this is, some of these posts from the original players are quite interesting and some a really worth the read. There are even a few comics and drawnings that have working links.
I just wanted to draw attention to this area of the forums that some might not know about.
EDIT: Some examples
Moa vs Thorax
30 day new player recap.

It's also fairly easy to see who of those old guys is still playing, as they've re-done their characters :)

i dont agree this part.
todays forum is full of trolls, troll paranoids, lack of content ect. old pages are much more adultish.
just like the alliance names. they were more cool than todays naming trends.

I think the whine about not being able to catch up to old players should now be put to rest. I can see that those who play in '03 are few now in '11, people quit folks and move on, though some like me are still playing, we haven't been playing non-stop all these years and still fewer are the die hard fans who never quit. Like any organization the seniority list looks daunting, but after a few years you make it to the first page and say to your self "wow I made it". So what, you become that old guy eating his lunch looking at the kids bowed in prayer with thumbs moving at high speed. (got to go to work later} Of Mordor

Hey, thanks for making note of this. I spent some time today reading old old threads...very interesting.
This one has a fair bit of talk about Battleships...it's amazing how far we've gotten!

A very good read Example: Originally by: Kortexr Battleships are so phenomally expensive to buy, fly, and equip properly that even very rich corps can't afford to lose more than a couple, and I think they would be used very sparingly indeed in the event of war.

Quote: 1> A battleship is not a resource gathering tool. Thats what Titans will be for. A battleship is first and formost a combat platform. So I think it's missleading to judge its value based on how much faster you can mine with one. It might be better to do a point by point comparison of a top of the line BB with a top of the line CA by stats.
Titans do make good resource gathering tools dont they

There was definatly alot less trolling back then, true. That aside, it seems mostly the same.
If I could travel back in time and make a post there, telling them what things are like today... Imagine what would happen. Do you think anyone would believe it?

People buying, fitting, and SUICIDING battleships, personally funded.
Spending over 2 billion ISK on a single battleship, then recouping about 65 million ISK per hour with it.
Two-shotting T1 cruisers in battleships.

There was a reference in one post about mines. What was the story on these? Anyone remember them and why they are gone?

IIRC they were removed because they caused too many issues. I'll link a few old discussion threads about them.

This thread was the first one created in this version of the forums. (It got necroed later in the year, hence it doesn't show up on the last page)
And the board is still snitz, as much as Wrangler would like to deny it. Though with the new Gate forum comes a new first thread!

True, I lied. This thread is also older, and in General.
Earliest one I could find.
They are all from 2 June though.
