Edited by: Peter XZ on 04/02/2011 22:04:52 I'd like to know what the point is in increasing the levels of skills such as Nuclear Physics , Quantum Physics, etc. in the manufacture of Datacores. There are no descrtiptions that elaborate on this issue.

Reseaerch_Points_Per_Day = Multiplier * ((1 + (Agent_Effective_Quality / 100)) * ((Your_Skill + Agent_Skill) ^ 2))

It also directly affects your success chances during invention attempts that involve those datacores.

you need these science skills to produce certain tech 2 items.

You can't do research with an agent unless your skill level matches theirs - i.e. a level 4 agent requires you to have level 4 skills in your chosen research field to get datacores from them

In addition to what has been said these skills also are a requirement to copy certain t2 bpos and to produce certain components. --

Not true. I started research with with a Level 4 Carthum Conglomerate agent doing Mechanical Engineering research with the skill only trained to 1. I'm getting laughable RP from it of course.

Confirming this. Matching the agent's level may have been a requirement at some point, but does not appear to be the case anymore.

I too have seen this. I suspect there is a rounding factor being done somewhere that causes it. General rule of thumb is Agent level = Skill level, but all rules have exceptions.

This was true back in early 2009, perhaps since the beginning. However, your RP improves significantly as you raise your level in the skill.

You do not (I don't think) need to have the NP skilled trained to the level of the agent, but you DO need to have the standings to use that level 4 agent.

Apologies for what I said earlier about the skill level having to match the agent - my bad! I started with a new agent recently and I could have sworn that he wouldn't let me start my research until I got my skills up to match his... maybe it was just an issue that could have been sorted with a relog :S
