Well, accordingly, I request that my computer arrange my targets according to alphabetical order based on their IFF signals.
Dude it's the future. If excel allows me to select and list details the way I want it, why not alphabetically if not anything else.
Just something to point out. "If you can't accept the fact that you're going to get shafted, quit the bloody game." |

They do that yes. And no they do not lose their customer base.
Yes, among some CCP that has created the :lolcustomer: soap opera. No, fortunately they remain a minority. CCP grows its customer base, and to a high degree recycles it.
This is the battle between acquisition and retention.
On the bright side, since October last year a good bunch of them are starting to understand how CCP seperated from the emerging dynamic they created and were a part of, how alternating and understanding perspectives is just as important as metrics, and that growing EVE and CCP does not solely rely on sales & acquisition - or the distorted mindset that was fueled by this for a few years
Still, it remains clear that no matter how much shiny a game designer may want to do, the growth of EVE still depends on its founding principles and vision for the darkness of space. After all, EVE is not cool, and it is not "a" game (to be taken lightly). It is what you do in EVE, that decides your challenges and opportunities, it imposes consequences and even loss and pain. It's what you do in EVE, that is cool, or cruel. But let's think positive, you will not get primaried in Incarna even with a name starting with "A", after all there is absolutely no way CCP can introduce or cope with the demands of introducing PVP there.
About the word "cool". The way I see it...
"So what did you think about the movie?" "It was cool" "Care to elaborate?" "Nah-ah"
Cool is the next shiny that adds nothing much. New stuff isn't the only thing that sells. IF it was, WOW-servers would be empty 2-3 months after an expansion. But you don't see that, you see them having 10 mil subs at all times. New stuff lures people back, quality-work keeps them in the game.

Well every day I jump into a new system and low and behold my name always appears at the top of local list.

Local should show "Unknown" with empty pictures until they have spoken. At which point it gets filled in.
A bit different than WH space without being totally blank.
10/10 for me.

Honestly, I'd rather just have the option to not show portraits in the channel lists (not just local), just have a tag and a name so that I don't have to scroll for three and a half hours to see which of my corpmates are online, or if there's a WT in-system, etc.
I mean, the portraits add no information whatsoever to the list, just as they add nothing to the chat box itself (where they are, in fact, removable). ---

Only the mouth breathing smack talkers should show up in Local. That is the only Local I can agree with.

Originally by: alexreborn I also find that the uniqueness of character names would slowly deminish and eventually dissapear as more and more pod pilots discover that an easy way to get around this local unbalance is to name themselves with letters further in the alphabet.
Since this has been well known since.. like forever yes.. i can see it now in game how everyone is named X something.. wait.. they are not? but surely after so many years people would all do that if your little theory is correct.

THIS is the first realistic working "solution" i read in years for solving the local "problem" (which is a luxury one). I like local as it is and don't wish it to be changed; however, if nullsec life should be made harder intelwise, removing neutral/enemy player names and replacing it with "unknown" until they speak - for me that doesn't sound too bad ?
however, i want Local still to be instantanous. Anything that goes into the wh-local direction would kill off the risk vs. reward equasion that keeps bears attracted to nullsec. And me. |

If you want to know what removing local would be like, just go to work in a WH. Constant spamming of directional. We've had this discussion before anyway. In 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
