I keep seeing websites lists EM damage against Amarr and Kinetic/Thermal against Caldari. . .
Yet from what I thought Amarr are armor tankers and should be weak to Explosive/Therm and Caldari are shield tanks and should be weak to Em.
Anyone can explain why/how the sites got the recommended data types? It doesn't seem fair to new players who havn't memorized these charts for the game to not only NOT tell you which types to use, but actually mislead you and getting you to use the wrong types if you were to come to the conclusion I listed above.
So....what's up? Where do these values come from? Is it just as simple as Player ships do not equal npc ships?

Edited by: Culmen on 07/02/2011 02:20:47 Yes, it is a simple case of NPC ships not equal Player ships. NPC ships tend to have identical resist on both their armor and their shields. So Amarr faction NPC have lower resist to EM and Caldari faction ships are weak vs Ballistic Thermal. Considering they act nothing like player ships, and have none/completely different capabilities compared with player ships. It's not wise to assume they would tank like player ships.
It's also worth noting that player armor tanked ships are not necessarily weak vs explosive, and shield tanked ships not necessarily weak vs EM. Most people will fit a Hardener to "Plug The Hole" in their resists, some times this leads to over compensation.
Finally, CCP periodically releases database dumps, meaning it includes all the raw data for NPCs. That's where most of the stats for NPCs come from. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

thats NPC ships as the poster above me allready said. Players tend to plug those holes with EANM's and Armor hardeners.

NPC's "cheat" in various ways, they're also predictable and stick to their roleplaying strengths and weaknesses. To make it easier, the racial NPC's are perfectly suited to be killed by a player's racial ship.
lasers do em/thermal damage, amarr rats are weak to em/thermal. Minmatar rats are weak to explosive damage, minnie is good at doing explosive. Same goes for Caldari/Gallente, but as they both favour therm/kin it kinda looks the same.

On a related note, note that the racial enemies of the Gallente are the Serpentis, the enemies of the Amarrians are the Blood Raiders, the Caldari have the Guristas, and the Minmatar the angels. Thus, using the preferred damage type of the natural enemy race is best for those rats.
They also have preferred crowd control/debuffs. Serpentis use target dampers (the thing gallente recons have a bonus toward), Blood raiders like neuts (Amarr is the capacitor-juggling race), and so on.
