Is there a way to verify that the container is locked (secure) besides asking someone to try to access the can?

you can ONLY lock a secure can by anchoring it. since you cannot in highly secure space, nor in your cargo hold, you are SOL.
as for station containers, that's a little different. but you didn't ask that ______________________ Best darned links ingame and out (backup) |

Atleast, thats how i used to check em. I havent used secure cans in a while. ---------------------------

Can containers be stolen? I was in 0.7 space and I'd got an error message when trying to anchor saying I was too close to another container or asteroid. Well I checked and it wasn't, so I put a password on it which I had to type in twice. I then logged off and came back a couple of days later and all my containers were gone. Is this possible? I can understand them being emptied if not locked but actually gone?

Yes....I believe so. If they are not anchored they can be scooped-up by an indy....although they won't be able to open it without the password I think they could just reprocess the whole lot for the minerals....someone correct me if I'm wrong

A little guide to secure containers: - How to protect the container with a password? It has to be anchored (not possible in high securty space 0.8 and above I think). If you don't anchor it the container will have a livespan of about 1 hour to 2 hours. If it is anchored you will notice ^ under it.
- How to test if it is protected with password? After anchoring and setting up the password warp to a gate, jump out system then jump back in the system and visit your container and open it. If it asks for a password it is protected if not bad luck it isn't. Passwords entered will be remembered as long as you don't jump out of the system.
- Can someone steal my container? If it isn't anchored you can't secure it and everyone can open or scope it to their cargo bay if they have required space free for it. So anchor your container always and protect it with a password. __________________________________________________ "Time will reveal everything, but only once so be prepared." |

with this I mean that once you have entered a password for that secure container it remembers you as long as you don't jump out of the system. If you just warp to another belt or planet and then back to the secure can you don't have to re-enter the password for that container. As soon as you take a jumpgate and then return to the container you have to re-enter the password. So just engaging warp isn't enough to test if your password is set __________________________________________________ "Time will reveal everything, but only once so be prepared." |

Ydyp is correct. This threw me off the first time I tried it.
You have to either log or leave the system completely
