I miss the days when probing was a pain in the ass.
Today, it is far too easy to probe things down. It is one of the big reasons that many players don't experiment with lowsec.
A skilled scanner can narrow down a target on the directional, direction and distance, drop the probes almost on top of the guy and get 100% in one scan, pull the probes back in, warp fleet. A carebear's interest in lowsec, as small as it may be, dies completely once they learn that is possible.
The old system also felt more like exploration.
Also, get off my lawn.

When having a Local Hull cargo expander drop meant another 30m in the wallet. When T2 cap rechargers cost 25m+ (actually, no, I don't miss that). When you could occasionally rat in lowsec for hours without seeing anyone else. When better MWDs made you go faster than crappy ones. When cyno jumping a ship actually made people go "Whoaholycrap!" |

Cant say I miss anything really.
Admittedly I did shed a tear or two at first with some of the changes over the years (especially the great nano nerf lol), but in the end every single one was for a better game overall.

Including the cyno jump effect nerf? I really cannot think of any way that that improves anything. As far as I know nobody ever even had framerate issues due to it. |

Pretty much. Still some rough spots, but there was some terrible gameplay in the old days.

actually back then there was a stacking penalty. it's just that it had a diferent formula (afaik) and it wasn't as punitive after the second damage mod. think of the damage mod bonuses x number of said damage mods graph as having a more linear curve and not a logarithmic curve as it is now.
unless you're not talking about the gankageddon days.
In the beginning, there were no stacking penalties of any kind, and absurd things were possible. Then CCP introduced the stacking penalty, later deciding it still allowed for some unreasonable setups, and changed it further as you said.
Yep zaqar knows what I was talking about and is pretty accurate about what went down back then.

When Cruise Missiles fitted into standart launchers. When overall dps was low enough that you could tank many ships with one X-large C5L and CPRs in the lows. When the Raven's highslots would rock hard with 6x arbalest standart launchers - cruise missiles fitted and 2x 1400mm Howies.
For Cruise Missile Kestrels in action, watch my short video from 2004: http://www.eveonline.com/download/videos/Default.asp?a=download&vid=113

Oh and when ECM was absolute but a Scorpion could jam one battleship at a time with 3 medium slots left. You could calculate more in advance and usually count on your modules.

Edited by: Shereza on 12/02/2011 08:13:17 Just a few things I miss and can actually remember or think of right now.
Quint-heavy drone myrmidons and eoses.
The old paint scheme for the navy megathron, even the old "new" skin for that matter.
When webber drones were worth more than reprocessing them cost.
When the game was new and fresh and I could play 10 hours/day without passing out.
Edit: The old nightmare with its split weapon systems and armor tank even though I'll admit that the new nightmare is better.
