Edited by: Marcus Gideon on 09/02/2011 23:51:49 So here's my idea...
There's an overabundance of anchored, but unattended POS, floating throughout the cosmos.
And unless you wardec the owners in order to waste hours trying to shoot it down... it'll float there forever.
So here's my idea.
After floating offline for 30-60 days, it becomes a viable target for DUST Contract.
Once the contract is made, the DUST players will find a new map available. They can assault the tower, overcome the defenses, and take out the control center.
If they succeed, the tower becomes Unanchored. It can either be scooped by the first passerby. Or after 30d, the Junk In Space will wipe it out.
Ideas? - Explosions!

DUST players are just random humans. Why would we let them in space ? And what good would they be with their lousy AKs against powerfull shields ?

That's why they go after the offline towers.
Besides, they keep saying DUST and EVE will have an impact on one another.
So far, all I've seen is our PI Colonies will be their playgrounds. It'd be interesting to see a real in game effect for their efforts. |

Why dust? A POS is not a planetary object.. Why would dusters have an impact on anything that isn't on a planet?
I feel your ...greed at seeing pos's in places you'd like to use but but if you can't be bothered to remove them yourself with available tools I see no reason to add "dust in space" mercs.. hire existing mercs that already provide this service or do it yourself.

Edited by: Marcus Gideon on 10/02/2011 02:10:55 Reason being...
There's already been a multitude of suggestions for removing POS.
A way to Hack them, to take control. A drone to remove them (already exists in the database, unused). A corporate fee to maintain Anchored status.
All of these things have gone unanswered.
This is just a different approach, something CCP could implement, which would solve our dilemma of occupied moons, as well as allowing their new toy (DUST) to have more interaction with EVE.
Otherwise, DUST is nothing more than Halo with a different sticker on the cover. |

Don't remind them
Not a bad idea, actually. Except dusties are supposed be limited to planets. From what we know so far, they won't be flying any spaceships. The concept is a good one anyway. Ties the dusties into the eve universe without making things too dependent. You do realize the link between Dust and EVE cannot be a strong one, because no-way no-how will they take the chance that Dust being a flop would sink EVE. |

I'm living in a wormhole, but left my high-sec pos in place. If I took it down there's this annoying little thing about having to have proper corp standings to put it back up. If you want my parking spot man up and do something about it yourself. Although, last I checked there were still vacant moons in my system.

when i see a million dollar on the ground, i wants to pick it up.
offline poses are million dollar bills that someone has nailed to the sidewalk.

You dont' HAVE to have them restricted to planets. You could just as easily have dusties board a control tower and fight for control of the tower.
PROBLEM: FPS's are very popular to "hack". This is because FPS's have to trust the "client" to perform various calculations. What if a hacker is able to manipulate these calculations to force a victory for their side - thus influencing the EVE world by hacking?
Currently EVE Online is virtually void of hackers because the EVE client isn't trusted to do any calculations. The only thing that the EVE client does is send commands to the server, and the server decides if those commands are legal or not. If we make too many connections between EVE and DUST, EVE will be heavily influenced by hackers. ----------

Why not let players just hack them? Last rumour I heard about DUST was the it wasn't going to be as tightly coupled to EVE as was first thought. I think they may have considered the fact that it may not be as successful as they had hoped and EVE players won't take much notice of it.

If you are that desperate to have a certain moon, and do not have the manpower to take the other corp on yourself. then hire a merc. corp to take it down for you. its really that simple. |
