Not only have they already found you, but they've placed a tracking device on your ship, knocked the books out of your kid's hands at school and gotten your cat pregnant.
Assume you're about to die, that way when you do it won't be as big of a surprise.

Ha ha, I simply love how you act like a tough guy, when you're probably one of many carebears scurrying along like frightened mice as soon as someone comes close to your ship.

Not a problem at all to get that many people, if your corp is into that kind of thing.
Risk (or cost) vs Reward. If the Freighter's cargo is worth more than the value of the gank BSs, that freighter will pop. It's simple math.
(Don't think it's a one-off thing either ... they will have been tracking that freighter for several jumps, setting up the ambush)
Be careful what you fly.
i have no worries, I don't own a freighter, a hulk or any mining ship, I like my tengu though.

Oh no, you're absolutely right. I've been in the game less than a month. However, with reading up on Hulkageddon this is the attitude I'll be taking. Ships pop in during that time frame you bet your rump I'm gone.
Not the tough guy. The "excessively cautious for good reason" guy.

Orcas are not that hard to take down. Most don't even bother to tank them properly.

[Edit] We got 3 that day. That was the only one I remembered to fraps.

Originally by: Nergart freighters not so much, they are difficult to kill in high sec but not impossible , any exhumers, mining barges, orcas, any industral ships really.
Well, the last I checked, you'd need a very large number of alpha BSs to pop a single Orca with a DCU II and reinforced bulkheads, plus some decent shield skills. The EHP go up faster than you'd think. Freighters are even more of a nightmare to take down. I guess someone would have to be autopiloting one of those beasts around highsec, with decent cargo to make it appealing as I doubt any large gang will sacrifice 20+ BSs to kill a freighter.
Not impossible, just improbable! :)
(The orca is more likely, but even still, it will take a hell of a lot of firepower to take that structure down before concord gets there!)
edit: spelling ftw!
Plenty of freighters go down to suicide ganks in Empire. Usually this happens when the cargo of said freighter easily makes up for the loss of an entire fleet of suicide ganking battleships. It isn't an easy task so to speak, but it happens more often than you might think.
Regardless of the outcome, you can usually tell that there was an attempt (success or not) to suicide gank a freighter by the massive blob of concord loitering around an undock or gate.
Though sometimes I wonder why anybody would waste the time doing so when they can suicide gank a 19b isk mission running Kronos and get 4 billion worth of drops. ;) http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=7791271

If a freighter is harder to kill than an Orca, then the Orca is improperly set up.
Jump Freighters on the other handà
Of course, on the third hand, if an Orca is worth killing (from a looting perspective, rather than for lulz/interdiction) then it's improperly loaded anyway. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

I agree on all points... Though I really wish I had a third hand also. :(

actually hulkged was created by one of the VERY few owners of the hulk BPOs. for all of you younger characters that do not know, T2 BPOs do exist, but no new ones can be created. they are from a very old time when T2 BPOs where given out as a sort of loyalty point lottery.
if you think about it, it is an ingenious idea. a person with a hulk BPO starts a war against hulks so he can jack the price to 300 mill a hulk and make 3 times the amount of isk he normally does. all he has to do is supply a few billion in prizes, and BAM instant 10s to 100s of billions extra profit for a few weeks/couple months.
the problem with this is that most people don't seem to realise this will jack up the prices of everything (luls ******ed hulkageddeon trolls) so it will just make the real carebears (missionr unners) the only ones left unharmed.
i've done mining, and it is boring as balls. same with missions, boring as balls. but killing the carebears won't really do anything besides **** over non carebears with a screwy market, and make one or two guys really rich LOL(also the top hulk killers get some small prizes).

Open just about any market graph and look at and just after July of last year. Look at enough graphs and you will notice something interesting. NO noticeable spike in the cost of T1 ships.
I fully agree with the rest of what you said, but you are vastly over estimating the percentage of the total amount of minerals, produced by high sec miners. Other factors come into play as well, when you conceder that big producers usually have minerals stockpiled to negate short term price fluctuations, and that it is only a one week event.
The overall EVE economy stumbles through this event as though it never happed.
[Edit] After looking back through the market graphs of every tech 1 battleship, battle cruiser, and freighter in whatever region I happened to be in. In about 60% of the graphs there is a small spike on the 5 day moving average. Never more than 5 mill up and always corrected with in half a month.

20 BSs aren't that expensive when you get back a large chunk of the isk (insurance) and 50% of the modules.
Don't kid yourself that this doesn't happen. It does.
Aha. I knew there was a reason for the fleet of CONCORD ships always swarming the gates there :)

Edited by: Captain Megadeath on 14/02/2011 18:17:21 Every Orca taken out in Hulkageddon have been fit for max cargo, none were tanked.
Take this one for a lolfit example. As we can see via noobtube it took 10 battleships to splatter it.
That one had an EHP of 73,404.
Now if you were to fit it properly, like you should do.
[Orca, test]
Mining Foreman Link - Laser Optimization Mining Foreman Link - Mining Laser Field Enhancement (something useful)
Large Shield Extender II 3x Invulnerability Field II
Damage Control II Reinforced Bulkheads II
3x Large Core Defence Field Extender I
That has an EHP of 297,808.
That is not with all V in skill. All Vs raises it to 302,020.
In other words, you will need a very large, dedicated Battleship fleet to splat you.

I believe, M'lord, that you just stuck a 'kick me' sign on your ship with this thread.
In short, making this thread was definitely not conductive to your safety, or the safety of your corporation. Consider yourself targeted

This gets even better.
Just searched for our friend Lord Renova here, seems he learned how not to fit an Orca. Though looking at what killed him he had no chance, even if properly fitted.
