just wondering what planets are best for setting up the processing on, i have other plaents where i extract the raw materials but wanted to know what type of planet is best for production without wasting cpu and energy on long links. also any other tips are more than welcome.

From memory, barren and temperate are best. As I recall, the import/export fees vary based on the 'inhospitability' of the planet, i.e. it will be more expensive to run factories on a planet full of lava than an Earth like planet.
There should be no difference to power and CPU costs.

If you want to make anything higher than P2 than you need to use Barren or Temperate. The smaller the planet the better. Show Info, look at radius. There is no difference in taxes based on planet type, size, location, etc. Taxes are based on the components being moved.

Pure production can be done on any planet, but the smaller the planet the less PG/CPU the links will take, even when you put all structures right next to each other. A small Barren planet I have only required 15mw per link if the structures are next to one another, but the same setup on a Gas planet has the links costing 45mw per link.
So, go for the smallest planet you can find that is still logistically in a good spot. ------------------------ Low-sec is like sailing along the coast of Somalia...

Barren or Temp even if you're not doing p4 if you want to switch you don't have to eat the CC. Look for something 2000km radius or less, esp if using lvl 4 CC.
This setup is on a 2010km planet, tried the exact same thing on 4000km radius and I ran out of CPU with about a third of the links left to do, using lvl 4 CC. All are advanced factories.

Imho those planets who are in the right system and are not used much by other planets are best. Of course if you can choose always use the smaller ones, but better to have a gas planet alone then a crowded one, when you want extract resources.
I always try to combine extraction and the rest of power and cpu i use to make something more out of it. This way i can optimize the combination of what can be build in one system without much hauling stuff around, because time is money and also risk, if you are doing that in 0.0 space.
Because i am lazy i try to optimize everything in a way, that i do not have to work much but still have a good output. Better to make something else more profitable then trying to push the output to a limit where you spend tons of times and hauling for another 5% output. So its more a problem of location and what planets you have.

It's only P4s that require Barren or Temperate.
My robotics manufacturing is on a plasma planet, with some extraction dedicated to picking up the slack for whichever of my 4 extraction planets is falling behind at the moment.

That is what you need to know when selecting a planet for processing.

thanks for you help guys i am in empire and in a system with one barren and one temp i was thinking of using. was gonna do first process (i have lots of different raw materials to process) on one planet and then move it to a second planet for the higher processing, was thinking of going for robotics and hadnt planned to any top level processing yet as the money didnt seem to be in it.
