I'm looking for a tanky hauler. Something my highsec alt can use to move high-value goods around without being at risk of a gank. I'm looking at something like this, but without the faction mods or T2 rigs:
http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/60399-Occator-HS-Hauler.html
Now obviously there is no such thing as "gank-proof" but I want to at least make the value of the ships needed to gank mine greater than the value of my cargo. Basically what I'm asking is how many tornadoes approximately could that fit (with T1 rigs and non-faction gear) tank? Lets assume a 0.9 system as I'm mainly concerned with the Jita undock itself. From that, I can figure out what sort of cargo value I'm going to be able to haul before I become a gank target.
Thanks! |

If you're mainly worried about the Jita undock, make an insta with a frig and warp to that every time you undock. Set up a tab on your overview for just Jita with only stations and gates on it, brackets turned off, etc etc. Undock, warp to your insta then warp to your out gate. |

That's what I've been doing so far, but there's always a chance I'll bump into a freighter or something and get locked and ganked. I don't want to be the guy who loses 2 bil of cargo in a T1 frigate; I'm looking for something a little more reliable. |

open 'people and places' window before undocking and scroll to undock bookmark (should be highlighted). The second you undock rightclick and warp, no bumping. Anyways, when you undock, you are invulnerable.. you can't bump into anything. |

The above poster isn't suggesting you transport items in the frigate, rather that you use the frig to make your bookmark. To do this, undock from the station in a fast frigate, hit full speed with MWD, ABs or whatever and let it fly for a few minutes, preferably so that you are several hundred clicks from the station (a 1000 Km is best, but it can take a while). When you are far enough away mark your bookmark and return to station, swap ship to your tanked hauler, undock and then as soon as you are in space warp to your bookmark. Once away from the station jump to your choice of gate and out of system.

No, I think the point was that you use the T1 frig (an empty one) to make your bookmarks (and it's a good idea to make several, not just one, because gankers have been known to camp at points in line with the Jita undock), at which point you've got warp-out targets you can use later for your hauler. (My technique is to open the People and Places to my personal bookmarks page, and use the bookmark there to warp off the station.) You've got ... was it thirty seconds? Sixty? ... of invulnerability when you undock, so if you're afraid you'll get bumped off true by the outgoing traffic, you can dock up and try again in a minute or two.
A back-of-the-envelope calculation tells me that an average suicide gank Tornado will cost roughly 100 million ISK and do about 10,000 alpha (and get Concorded after one shot), so figure every 10,000 EHP you have as buffer is 100 million ISK's worth you can carry before a gank becomes profitable. With two T1 Trimarks, a T2 damage control, one T2 800mm plate, T2 active explosive hardener, two T2 EANM's and one T2 energized layering membrane (which actually does a bit better than a third EANM), you can get well over 70,000 EHP of armor buffer alone |

Thats intresting, i recently came up with this, it has 21k EHP:
[Iteron Mark V, safety] Damage Control II Inertia Stabilizers II 400mm Reinforced Steel Plates I Explosive Plating II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
Medium Shield Extender II Medium Shield Extender II Medium Shield Extender II Thermic Dissipation Amplifier II EM Ward Amplifier II

My understanding is that the 30 seconds of invulnerability switches off the moment you try to warp anywhere or activate any modules...so you are technically vulnerable when you begin to align. If your angle is a little off and you have to align even a little, there is a chance you'll bump another ship and have your warp greatly delayed. If that happens, just dock up and try again.

ETA: from an Occator, I should have said. Post must have been cut off. Stupid me.
Quite like this fitting. With my skills I can also push a bit of shield tank on as well:

And if you've got enough spare powergrid, you can swap that layered membrane for a 400mm T2 plate, which will outdo the 15% bonus of the membrane. |

A quick warp and cloaky hauler is almost un-killable.
Second choice would be a real freighter. Takes many ships and lots of organization to kill it. Cargo has to be worth more than the gang loss Hauls more Holds its value |

Volune of goods is also a factor. If it's very small, a covops frig with nanos/inert stabs/cloak may serve you better. IMHO, Deep Space Transports are just not worth it, but blockade runners can be teh sex when fitted well. First come smiles, then lies. Last is gunfire. |

Or, if you already trained Marauders to at least 1 and bought one by mistake: Marauders can be fitted to hold about 5000m-¦, with plenty of tank. Unfortunately, they're a bit on the expensive side. |

That baby is a cheap cruiser hull, but it still sports 88.582 HP. According to the calculation earlier in the thread, that schould require 8-9 tornados, thus securely shipping around 800 million isk. Seems great for salvage and lp store items, which usually dont fit into a covops or shuttle. What do you think about it? |
