Even if you killed my ship you still get nothing. I figured the cost for each ship was a min 2 mil and the smartbombs cost another 5 to 8 mil. You waisted 10 mil each when you could have put that isk to good use. What you did do is give the creaters of hulkwhatever more isk for your new ship. These players created hulkwhatever to sell thier ships and equipment they produce for inflated price's. I even purchased ships for a low price just to sell to you for an inflated price. Even if you kill my mac I still make isk so keep killing and being killed.

and your point is???
something you dont seem to grasp is that most people participating in hulkageddon are doing it for one reason....because its fun. No-one cares about making a profit or about specifically killing Musashi IV in his mackinaw.
Try it yourself sometime, you might find you enjoy it

If it were true that this was a bunch of industrialists seeking to eliminate competition and boost the value of their own sales, woudn't that be awesome anyway? I don't see the problem. It's the kind of stuff that was alluded to on the back of the retail box back in 03. The main selling point of Eve is exactly this sort of event. If you can't appreciate that, I can't understand why you'd play it. --

Pretty much this.
You pay IRL money to play EVE while others may find it not worth it the $. Some people pay in-game money to have fun popping Hulks while others may find it not worth it their ISK.

If the Hulkaggedon killboard published losses as well as victories for everyone involved a lot of the mystique of the event would be very quickly dispelled.
I for one would be jumping in my seat with joy if i killed several cruisers with an empty Iterion or a Battleship in a mining barge. It's all in how you look at it, but yes, a lot of ganks actually fail and you'll never see those anywhere. I witnessed yesterday 1 battleship, 2 battlecruisers and a couple of destroyers fail to kill a single machariel in an ice belt (there were about 10 of them mining). I don't know how that's possible but it happened...
If anyone else involved in PvP but the Hulaggedon gangs excused their bad k/d ratio in both isk and numbers with a "but we fun burning our isk lol" execuse they'd still be laughed at for being horrible.
Not to mention if their losses are equal or greater to those of the miners then that simply means it's profitable to mine during hulkaggedon due to demand for ships and modules.

First of all ganking a Mach != Hulkageddon
And Hulkageddon isn't about the ISK at all. PVPers who care about K/D and isk ratios don't suicide their ships. We do. I go into every gank knowing as soon as I turn on my guns I'll be down 10 mill.
Hulkageddon is about blowing a bunch of ISK to have fun, and perhaps more importantly, to teach a lesson. That HISEC IS NOT SAFE. Oh, and the tears. Those are pretty good too.
And I kinda hope its profitable to mine during Hulkageddon. Those poor(non-botter) miners make little enough as it is.

You all missed the point of this thread.

The Gankageddon griefers FAILED. Musashi IV, gratz. That's excellent news.

Those who say it's being done for lol's and not for ISK, you must have failed to take a good look at the prizes being offered. And don't even try the ole 'It's a way to get rid of Botters'. That excuse died a long time ago.
The OP wasn't being a crybaby. It's sad how you people always try to twist things around and try to make yourselves look superior.
I know plenty of Miners who dual box with Hulk and Orca that make a lot of ISK mining in high security Grav sites. Those who say there's no isk in mining have no clue since it makes way more ISK per hour than the usual PvP action.
Don't even bother with the flames, my career is Exploration, not Mining. But I do love reading about Failed gank attempts, especially when the intended victims are Mining ships that survive.

That's just it - it won't ever happen.
Every hardcore PvPer/pirate has an isk-making alt, even the ones that claim they do not, and those industrialists aren't going to leave the game, or quit selling ships, or quit mining, or whatever they do to make that isk.
I think the miner-hate is just another way to make those spewing it feel superior, as someone stated above.
All that said, I have no problem with Hulkageddon-ing. I understand (and agree with) the rationale that blowing 500-600 mill on gank ships, and bottoming out your sec status, can be a fun and refreshing break from the boredom that Eve certainly can be. It truly is a sandbox and I am COMPLETELY against any form of built-in game mechanic that protects one player class over another. Like myself, I believe most players are multipurposed (perhaps over different characters and/or accounts), so that things like Hulkageddons and wardecs don't have to interfere with what you can do in the game.

Op and other miners dont get it do you. Everyone of those kills that hulk or barge was AFK. This is the communities way of saying we hate macroers. But people still insist on running their scripts and are still mining. Everything killed other than barges is just a bonus for lulz.
Also, most hulkageddon pilots are billionaires and have salvage alts near by ready to salvage the wrecks. Did you know hulks can drop up to 3 of the T2 armor plates which sell for 25 mill each?
oh and smartbombs dont cost 5-8 mill. especially when you can run 1 lvl 4 and get a full rack after most missions.

You got it completely wrong! We don't hate miners... We just love EVE! The EVE economy (which also the miners benefit from) lives off destruction.
Destruction is good! Without destruction, no need for minerals! Without minerals, no need for miners!
See this for a perfect explanation....

For the 9001th time, industrialists with more than two functioning neurons know that sitting in an asteroid belt in a gold-painted bathtub for hours on end is a stupidly inefficient way to procure minerals. If all those poor oppressed highsec miners ragequit the game it would affect nothing, proper industrialists would still be getting their minerals from drone goo and reprocessed mission loot. ---------- Who, me? |

Fail more please, Thing is most fail ganks aren't that expensive, and I honestly doubt your story itself you probably got ganked and want to feel better so you'll make up an "epic fail" gank story its something failbears like yourself do to comfort themselves when the "mean hulkaggeddon pilots" come and blow up your precious Indy/Ore ship.
an avg hulkageddon gank ship costs no more than 4mil (you make more than that doing a decent lvl 3 not including salvage) a hulk costing 194mil getting killed in exchange for a net loss of 10-12mil is more than worth it, not to mention all the failbear tears you and your other failbears send out in hatemails/hate convos keep up the QQ and keep up the stories.

If there wasn't a player economy, there would be NPCs making things and ISK sinks. Just like WoW.
Personally, even though I'm a miner, I laugh at these 'bawwww' posts. They do it because it's FUN. Because they want to see you cry over lost ships. Because they want furious hatemail. Hell, I support hulkageddon. Why? Because it's already pushed mineral prices up due to people buying up and fitting disposable gank-ships. There is a HUGE amount of materials being ****ed away in suicide ganks, the supply's depressed... And who's gonna replace all those barges? I'm even composing some fake hatemail in case my little barge gets whacked. I don't care that much for it; it's basically a My First Mining Barge, but I don't think I should dissapoint the gankers by not responding. If I get it good enough, I might even get featured on the site!
The only reason I'm not participating is because I only picked up the game a month or so ago, and don't have the huge reserves of ISK to throw at it.

This is really not as true as you might think. Since the start of prices of trit have gone up a little.. but prior to the event prices had already hit a 2 year high thanks in no small part to the mayhem caused by Incursion. Rates are rising for more than one reason.

Personally I have nothing against Legit Miners. I do have something against those you see who log in after down time, and are in the belts till the next down time, and do this day after day after day. Those are the miners I have an issue with. However, the point of Hulkageddon is to create, and run, an eve wide player ran event that many people can get into doing, and as an added bonus there are prizes for it. It adds a 'contest fun' quotient to the equation. Adding to and enhancing the fun of the game. -

Ok CCP I am completely baffled by this. Back when you first started we (my old corp out of beta) started espionage and leveled a strong corp. Soon after you put a message out that people doing such things would be banned. Now not only have you allowed that same espionage to take down a well known corp. but you allow someone to create an event that harasses hundreds of paying players whom just want to try and make a little isk to get ahead in the game without any sort of punishment and let alone allow them the soap box of your very own forums?
I strongly recommend you re-think this while you are allowing the (life sucking drab) of eve to continue their piracy you are bashing the greater of the population into leaving the game. I know of several beta testers that have left due to this kind of crap. Yes piracy is fun and part of the game, but contests that draw hundreds to harass others over the course of a month? That's paid time you are losing when others leave for that month. Check your rates I guarantee you have cancels when this person announces their little contest.
I say ban the lot of them and make eve better for people who actually appreciate it for what eve was truly meant to be instead of some outlet for enraged 10 year olds who have no morals and get off on manipulating a couple hundred ignorant fools into doing their dirty work.
Before you start the childish retorts of "QQ and Carebear" I'd like to point out I have never lost a ship to any of you noobs I've been playing Eve since Beta and have not yet had a person from this event win an assault on me. The problem is not that I've been attacked the problem is I LIKE eve and want to see it grow, but with the contests like this which encourage jerks to harass new comers in high sec and the like making new players leave. You are hurting the economy of eve and the player base. I want to see this game last and that is the ONLY reason I even care to make a post. I am already on the defensive and welcoming players in high sec to fleet and podding any person I find assaulting miners for this silly little contest. (No this is not the character I do it on. I want it to be a surprise lol)
I also encourage all miner corps to band together during this time. Set traps for the participants of this little contest and yes POD them ALL. |

Yes Pod us. Just remember that the average hulkageddon participant is in an implant free jump clone and podding us costs us what now? Maybe a few million isk to update the next implant free clone? And you think that you are accomplishing something here. Good. I like it when people fight back, even if they are misguided in how they do it or what the cost to the people they do it to amounts to lol. -

It's not about the price it is about the inconvenience and time it costs the other person. Stopping them from harassing others just that little longer. Thank you though for displaying the exact mentality I speak of. People like you that could care less about whom they are harassing or the impact it has on the game in the long run.

What inconvenience? You pod them back to their base of operations so they can get to their ships faster? And in case you missed it, most players participating are not concerned much about the cost in isk or security status to them. So that basically negates your entire argument really.
As to my mentality, it's just fine thank you. I used to think like you. I'd get all butt hurt about someone coming into my missions and stealing from me or hovering up my wrecks, or of getting caught on a gate camp in low/null etc. I am ashamed to say, I actually got furious and Emoraged when I got caught by the mutual wardeck, nab the neutral mission runner helping with the mission shtick and lost my very first Abaddon (long deleted toon).
However as time has gone by, I have come to understand EVE, how it was built, and why it is the way it is. EVE is a game where nearly anything can happen, and people like Helicity prove that one person can effect and change the face of EVE through their actions. Just like CCP advertises eve to be like. I came to understand the most basic thing about EVE that I think you have forgotten. EVE is a cruel, dark, gritty universe where the only place you are safe, at any time, is while docked in a station. When you undock. You paint a target on your ship that says "Kill me", and eventually, someone will. It happens.
THAT is what EVE is, and contrary to your view, that it should be some carebear wonderland, the EVE I live in... and the EVE I play.. is still a Dark, Cruel, Gritty Universe, and I for one hope it never changes.

That is a great mentality for someone who has no clue how the industry works. There is a reason for high sec. It was not so a small group of players could band together and harass others. It was for new players to become familiar with the game and the risks so they could inevitably move to low sec.
These risks are there for a reason. Yes people can be jerks in high sec and cause problems that is to be expected by a few random pirates. But contests rewarding those whom harass the most people they possibly can? Not only is that immoral it is flat out harassment. CCP stopped this before and caused a very well planned and LONG term established corporation to cease all actions but yet not they welcome it with open arms?
I fail to see how losing new players and some old players makes CCP happy. Allowing a small group of "children" to run around harassing people is not worth the attention they receive and I cannot imagine they have not seen this. I just ask why their backbone has gotten so frail and weak since early eve.

Your ships were killed by concord and you got nothing. Even if you killed my ship you still get nothing. I figured the cost for each ship was a min 2 mil and the smartbombs cost another 5 to 8 mil. You waisted 10 mil each when you could have put that isk to good use.
Funny, I am both a miner and a missioning Carebear. 10 million isk spent in the hunt to blow up a ship using an Alt is money put to good use because I had fun. My mission Alt makes that 10 million isk on a level four mission in less time than it takes me to hunt down and blast away at a ship.
This is a game. There are rules. None are being broken.
Are some other players making money off my attempts? Absolutely. Just like they make money off my selling salvage, building equipment, and mining asteroids. It is part of the game. If you want to argue that helping others makes money is wrong I would recommend that you park your Mac because you are just as much part of the problem.
When this is over and my sec status wrecked I'll go back to blasting rats with my Alt and get it restored, just in time to do it again, all while picking up gank ships on the cheap over the next few months... for I have tasted the tears, and they are delicious.
I do want to thank you for being a willing participant (you chose to undock). Without targets like you I would have to sit and stare at ice roids slowly tumble on my screen.

What EVE have you been playing? CCP PROMOTES this very thing in their videos. Or have you somehow gotten translated to this universe from some alternate carebear universe and missed that?
It is obvious to me, and probably most any other reader that you are a carebear. I'd wager you purchased your "old' toon, did some basic research into it's history and are now trying to claim it for your own. If you were so old and have played the toon since beta, I am doubting very much you would fear to show your face on the forums unless there was something you didn't want people to see or find out. Such as the character was purchased. -

Sorry your little attempts to draw me out will not work. I have been playing eve since BETA I am not new to this. I know damn well there is a small group of jackasses out there whom just jump at the chance to harass anyone with a valid point. I don't really care if you believe me. CCP knows the truth and I hope someone from within their ranks recalls this situation and at least PRETENDS to give a crap about the damage they did to earlier corps and WHY they did so. In order to help keep newcomers in the game.
They are nearing the same mark as before. MOST of their new subs are alts not real players IE when someone quits they lose DOUBLE the players. They really need to re-think this mentality if they wish to contend with the big games and keep eve alive. I'd hate to see eve follow the same route Anarchy Online did. I miss that game. They just need to put a stop to this madness once an for all.
If not for any other reason then it is HARASSMENT against people who wish to mine in eve instead of pvp.

EVE is designed and built to allow this very thing. Designed from the ground up to be PVP centric. To be free market (and for the most part) Free will. It is designed to allow players to make their footprint on the universe if they have the ability to step up and do it.
Your own statement backs this up, even though you don't realize this. CCP made some mistakes early on, saw them for the mistakes they were, and corrected them (Now they allow espionage, and have for how many years??? quit a few..). That is called evolution. Failure to be able to Evolve, Adapt and Adjust to changing environments leads to what now? I believe the vast majority of the Dinosaurs can explain this lesson to you.. oh wai.. they died out, because they were unable to Evolve, Adjust and Adapt to a changing environment.
You argue one thing, trying to prove how CCP is wrong for allowing something because "gasps" they said don't do something wayyyyyyyyy back then, and then not long after, allowed it again, and you can't even tell how your argument, proves that Hulkageddon should be allowed (and obviously is, and if not officially sanctioned, is unofficially sanctioned, by CCP) because it fits right into the Universe they have designed.

It is not a "claim" it is a fact. This toon is obviously not my main and I could care less if you believe me. I have been on the receiving end of the "CCP does not like your actions so stop attacks" and they won. CCP threatened a corp with more then a hundred NON alt players so I'd like to see them again take action. Especially when so many of these harassers hide behind alts.
Please do not respond? Are you that self involved and diluted to think you can outright make a statement someone else is wrong with little fact to base your claim and hope they will just listen to you?

Espionage is one thing and I agree it is part of eve and should have ALWAYS been (grr at ccp for that one) but the fact still remains they were so quick to stop it early on for the obvious reason that it hurt their overall gain of new players and yet now they allow and as you say encourage(?) contests which encourage players to harass newcomers?? (high sec ganking does just this and to argue it please prove with a valid point why harassing and killing people in high sec which is newbies space is not such) is really saddening especially since i've seen players come and go due to this little contest. Players who might have otherwise been great miners/builders in eve just up and said screw it. Eve is a HUGE game of time sink and showing new players that if you don't stick around xx amount of time we don't care what happens to you. Well that will drive the game into the ground. Yes it may be fun and seem "cool" at the time, but really it is nothing more then adolescent bullying as such on the playground with 10 year old children. CCP needs to wake up and play the role of moderator.

Well dude, let me say this. All I have to do is take a gander at local, from one end of High Sec to another and the fact is, the majority of players are NOT newbies. Most are 6months to 5-6 years old or more. I go sit in an asteroid belt and look at the players ages in the hulks sucking up the rocks and most are 1-3 years old or older, same for the ice belts. So while a new player might get caught into it, the truth is, the majority of players/bots/toons/macros/etc that get hammered by it are NOT new or young characters. Be honest with yourself and take some time in a cov-ops. Fly through a MINIMUM of 10 syatems, go to every belt, and note the ages of the characters mining.
You will find most are at least a year old or older, and many are 2 years old or older. Few will be less than 6 months old. Now what was that argument about newbies again? -

Three observations, one fact and one request which you selfishly ignored.
If you have not petitioned this grievance of yours they why have you run to the forums with it? After all this time you still don't know how to address a problem?

This is really not as true as you might think. Since the start of prices of trit have gone up a little.. but prior to the event prices had already hit a 2 year high thanks in no small part to the mayhem caused by Incursion. Rates are rising for more than one reason.
Prior to the event, prices had shot up, yes. I thought that was due to people stocking up on ships and modules to throw at hulks and freighters, rather than failing at incursion due to the problem of pick-up groups. Besides, in economics, everything happens for a reason. Supply isn't going down, so demand must be going up. SOMEONE is buying it up. Although it may be people stocking up on cheap minerals to sell on after the hulkageddon price hike.

Hulkawhat?
Over 4 000 000 m3 mined during this hulkageddon. Exhumers lost: zero, Orcas lost: zero. Tip for all miners. Before hulkageddon starts, find a quiet system, far far away form Caldari space. Far far away from major tradehubs. Move your mining ships and also bring your favourite probing ship. Can't use probes? Train them as they are quite handy tool for any miner.
Now that you are in your new system it's time to start prepping the mining ops: 1. Look at the local, low populated system, good. Scout the system with your probing ship. Look what ships are on the sky. Also check the neighbouring systems as well. 2. Look for gravsites, if you find one, mine there. 3. Tank your barges/exhumers and orca, just in case! 4. When in roidbelt, aling to station / safespot, keep scanner open and update every 30sec. When you see too many cheap ships on sky that can be used to gank your mining fleet dock asap. 5. Mine, proffit. You can actually get better price for ore/mins in those remote highsec systems than on major hubs. Also less miners there so it's more roids for you! Also you can find some lowpopulated lowsec and try to make a deal with residents there. Offer to sell you ore or minerals/good you build with killer discount if they let you mine there. Even pirate players like cheap ammo, ships etc.
