I was researching what sells well in my current LP store and stumbled upon a mod that has 4k+ potential rate. So I buy a few mods and bring them to jita. Sold within an hour. I was the only one selling them in jita so I actually increased my price several times and still sold everything.
Before going to sleep I went to get a last batch which was slightly bigger than the total I sold so far. Figured at least half would sell. When I woke up not a single one is sold and the market is just packed with this particular mod and obviously the price has dropped quite a bit which leaves me with a stock that will probably take ages to liquidate and at a lower rate.
Does this happen often? Does this just prove that putting all your eggs in one basket is a very bad idea?

Edited by: egola on 21/02/2011 07:33:00 well also take notice at what time you're playing, while it is true that eve has a global community, vast majority of the players are US/European and your sleep hours might just coincide with their sleep hours/work hours so its not all that uncommon.
and to answer your question, yes that happens all the time. sometimes a highly desired good lp:isk ratio item pops up and next thing you know the whole market is saturated with them.

Also keep in mind that there's often periodic patterns to the production and consumption of various goods. A lot of supply and demand shifts on a weekly rate, for example.

I think this is the key bit of information.
Your early trades showed the community exactly what you saw, once that was done it was business as usual. You could have possibly flown under the radar if not for the blatant price gouging.
Good Luck.
