I'm not in game atm but as I remember it torps have a base velocity of 1500 m/s, and a flight time of 6 sec, so therefore a range of 9000m...which doesn't seem much for a BS weapon (I use them on a 'Phoon).
I have Missile Bombardment at 4, Missile Launcher Operation at 5, and both and Missile Projection and Torpedos at 3 - I'll get round to training them to 5 at some stage; but with those skills, what range should I be looking to get from Torpedoes (or cruise missiles for that matter)?
I assume also that an FC with the right boost will also increase the range?
TIA

No gang boosts for missile range. You can either do the actual flight time * velocity, you can get it from showing the info on loaded ammo iirc. Or open EFT, it gives that number there. Next you substract 10% from the result and you got a fairly acurate max range.

Open EFT import your character in there through the API create a ship setup you want.
Use implant if want to check that as well.
Then you get the range [theoretical] in the optimal of the weapon.
For realistic combat range as someone mentioned subtract 10 % of that number.
Basically it is missile velocity multiplied by flight time. Both of which can be influenced by skills for both missile and ship implants and rigs. Thus having EFT run all the calculations is the best idea. Pod |

you can also check ingame with your applied skills, right click your ship and select show info, then pick the last tab and scroll down to your missiles where the stats will be shown, please not that the missile damage WILL BE WRONG but the rof and all other stats are correct including the velocity and flight time.

Edited by: stoicfaux on 21/02/2011 14:27:14 Go here for The Big Ninetails Thread of Useful FormulaeÖ and look for "TRUE Missile Range". Post number 6 contains links to the gory details of missile acceleration.
Get your missile flight time and velocity from the EFT or pyfa fitting tools. You can get missile agility and mass from the item database. Torpedoes.
Use 'Inertia Modifier' for Agility in the formula.

I'd also like to note that Pyfa prides itself on giving a very good estimate on missile range.
I'm pretty sure they use the same formula Stoicfaux is linking to. ùùùùù

Thanks for the help - especially the tip about right clicking on my ship and checking the modules tab - that shows a flight time of 8.4 secs and a velocity of 1950 m/s so a total range of 16380m.
