Hi,
Me and my buddy are a couple of nooby pirates (well trying to be )..
Would like some advice on best sec rating system to start out in, 0.3 or 0.4?
we are using frigs or cruisers (my buddy is caldari)so i am thinking along the lines of one as a tackler and the other as damage dealer....is this a sound idea or would it be better for both of us to scramble/jam as well as dish out damage...
Any advice greatly appreciated ...

to be bluntly ohonest there aint much difference between 0.4-0.1 so id just patrol all/any you see and keep an eye out on the scanner. ----------------------------------------------

as stated, there's not much difference between 0.4 and 0.1. Just find yourself a nice region with lots of systems and habitants...
On the tactics, 1 tackler & 1 damage dealer is a good idea. For example as you're Minmatar: 1 Rifter/Vigil and your Caldari friend in a Caracal or something.
A EW ship like a Blackbird is also a good idea...

yeh just take your pick of low sec systems .. be wary not to get caught in a small pocket (ie surrounded by high sec systems) as you cant go in them once your sec rating drops to a certain level. Schroni has the right idea with the rifter/cruiser combo. Your best bet would be EW for that as, if you are newer players, your skills may not compete with older players' cruisers, for example. So a blackbird/rifter (or vigil) combo would be a great way to start at least.
good luck ------------------

i find thorax to work very well. Since i'm initiating the combat i get to chose range etc, so i'm always in blaster and drone range. I've run into a couple miners fitting jammers, but that's what drones are for. If you are ransoming, remember to let people go when they pay and don't charge anything insane. If it would be cheaper for them to lose the ship they definatly won't pay, and avoid sentry guns for 15-20 minutes after you've attacked somone. If you kill somone after they pay a ransom you are just hurting all the pirate community. ____________________________ Waiting to cut out the deadwood. Waiting to clean up the city. there are no real *pirate alliances* as such since 0.0 is carebear heaven and every alliance has its carebears.
there are, however some (sexily named) evil ones.... ------------------

Amen. It would be nice to see more pirates in 0,0. But ahem, they just don't go there. To me there's no glamour in pirating in non 0,0. Just a big pita with the sec status deal.
One more thing. Don't trust Siddy He'll just buddy buddy up to you, gank ya, then convo ya saying that that was your first "Free lesson" on pirating...ie, trust no one

One of you should use a blackbird with 4-5 multispec jammers, guess it's already there. The other should use a missileferox or a caracal, good damage dealer. ------------------- :: finite horizon :: killboard ::

drones = ebil ebil creations.... *starts mumbling something about podding who ever created them*
they cost me a few ships ;) but not as many as the users lol...
Gate Ganking = just wrong (unless in 0.0 ) Afk Ganking = Ok if its worth the time though its usually not. Sticking to .4 and lower is a must...
and remember this...
Security status, or lack thereof, can have a big impact on your ability to travel through the EVE universe.
Here is a brief list of your travelling options according to security status:
Players with -1.5 or greater can enter all systems
Players with -2.0 or worse cannot enter 1.0 systems
Players with -2.5 or worse cannot enter 0.9 systems
Players with -3.0 or worse cannot enter 0.8 systems
Players with -3.5 or worse cannot enter 0.7 systems
Players with -4.0 or worse cannot enter 0.6 systems
Players with -4.5 or worse cannot enter 0.5 systems
Once your security status reaches -5 you are considered an outlaw and can be attacked by players anywhere without CONCORD intervention.
Players with negative ratings can fly through all systems in an Escape Pod, as CONCORD are not quite ruthless enough to attack pods, but if your rating is -5.0 or below then you are easy pickings, as anyone can target and destroy your pod without repercussion. -------- The standings set by the game are indicators of your stature towards NPC entities: agents, corporations and factions. All NPC corporations also have standings between themselves as well as with player corporations.
Your standing with a particular agent affects the quality of his missions. The higher it goes, the more rewarding and less time-consuming your missions will be. Your standing with a particular corporation currently dictates the availability of its agents to you. A high standing makes the better, higher-level agents want to do business with you.
Your standing with a particular faction (such as the Amarr Empire, the Minmatar Republic, and so on) determines whether entire NPC corporations allied with that faction are available to you. Once it gets high enough, you can access every agent of every such NPC corporation so long as the agent's minimum requirement is lower than your faction standing. If it gets too low, however, you ruin the risk of being attacked by that faction's Navy, much like low security status can get you in trouble.
Note that if either your corporation or faction standing goes into the negative values, you risk losing all your agents for that corporation or faction - even the ones with whom you have a high personal standing.
Standing against a certain NPC entity can rise when the character does something beneficial for the NPC, and fall when the character does something disruptive to the NPC's interests. For instance, if the character kills an NPC ship belonging to a certain corporation, he will fall in standing with that corporation but rise in standing with the corporation's enemies. This applies not only to corporations but to the Empires as well: Killing an Amarrian ship will lower your Amarr faction standing, but raise your Minmatar faction standing. All standings decay with time. ---------
Now have fun kids and remember big dogs bite back ;) So do be careful not to gank the wrong people as they will have you camped before u know it but other then taht go for the loan indies and such =)

Edited by: alphawolf2929 on 01/02/2005 21:45:19 if i see it, noob pirates have no place because in .4-.1 youll most likely get shot at by sentrys or some **** and in 0.0 you and your buddy would most likely get taken out by shinra or whoever (depending on your area) so, join a pvp corp and train up
EDIT: Where are you guys pirating, id like a spot of fun

Edited by: RollinDutchMasters on 01/02/2005 22:11:51 Aight, let me explain the important parts of ransom piracy.
#1: Learn how to use the scanner to find ships in belts rapidly. This is very very important, since once youre a known pirate everyone in local will safespot/dock within minutes of you entering a system.
#2: Once you find someone, make sure to scramble him at least -3 and get a webber on him.
#3: Take the target to 50% structure. Start a ransom convo. Do not let him boost. If he is, keep slapping his shields/armor back down.
#4: If at any time your target disappears from local, immedietly hit him with everything you have. You have from 20 seconds to 2 minutes to kill his ship before it vanishes. The pod will be almost uncatchable, but with good timing and large named smartbombs you have a shot at the corpse.
#5: Your target will not pay the ransom. He will however stall you waiting for backup (assuming he doesnt log the second you enter the belt). Be prepared to warp out at any time, and keep an eye out for a buildup in local. If you see corpmates of his coming into system, pod him and get out of the belt.
#6: Pods are worth more then any ship you will ever find in a low-sec empire belt. If you have large smartbombs, you can toll the pod without having to destroy the ship.
Originally by: Sochin CCP has provided you with the tools you need to avoid crime. You're just too lazy/stupid to use them.

and remember, you only have to make them think you have a smartbomb, you don't always actually need one (although this is a nasty tactic) ____________________________ Waiting to cut out the deadwood. Waiting to clean up the city. Waiting to follow the worms. |

so what happens in 0.4 and 0.3 systems? Do sentry guns take over for shooting at people? Is it linear then? 0.4 system would be -5.0 and 0.3 system would be -5.5? Would that mean sentry guns fire on anything that's less? ______________________ Best darned links ingame and out (backup) |
