in my resent flying time i was trying to figure out how to use a nexus chip
I frist put one in my cargo hold to see if it helps with boosting ship power or control, not really sure if that worked
next I tryed to sell one but nobody was buying the nexus chip
so I am asking some queston's to ship born pilots
1. why do we need them?
2. what are they good for?
3. how does a pilot use one?
4. where is the chip used?
so i have a good collection of these chips and was asking for some clearity of the proper use of the nexus chip
so please help me to understand what i can do with them instead of trashing them or taking up cargohold space

You can use the Nexus chip in the Loyalty Points store and does not have any effect on your ship in any way if you put it in your cargo.

You need the chips to buy faction ships from LP store.
R&D, Mining, Transport Corps sell the Chips.
Fighting Corps the Chips.
It's an extra income for all those non-fighting Pilots ;)

There is 3 "sizes" of the Nexus chips
Frigates Cruiser and Bship size.
There is 4 factions so a total of 12 chips.
To get a faction ship from the LP stores you will need a Raven plus the appropriate Nexus chip from caldari plus the LP and some isk and you get a Caldari Navy Raven.

now this is making more sence to me on how to use them
i guess with more time and work in the LP store i will figure this puzzle of supply and demand to purchase a new fraction ship

Well. Sort of. To get a tier 2 faction BS you need 600,000 LP, a BS-sized nexus chip, and the base hull.
Of course there are also other offers like the 500,000 LP + 200,000,000 ISK or the 500,000 LP + tags (including top officer) for faction BS blueprints. Whether the nexus chip offers are best for LP conversion is up to the buyer of course....

it looks like i will need to do a lot more work for my fraction to reach that large of a number 600,000 to 500,000 LP points

Don't. Buying a faction BS through the LP store is a huge waste of LP ù you get far more for your work by trading those LP for something more valuable and just buying the BS off of the market.

That is true just was using the example on what chips do never said it is a good idea
