Haven't find the answer to this question & start to feel real dumb, but, how will be controlled the avatar at Captain's Quarters and Incarna? Will it be WASD controls or point and click? Or both?

once you get to walking in stations 5 (30 day train) you are able to slowly shuffle around your quarters. Suggest training hand eye coordination to 4 and flexibility to 4 for a good time.

I do not believe they have indicated how your character will be moved but i would guess a combination of both as most mmo's go that route.

Most likely click/mouse based. And that is what I hope too. But AFAIK CCP have not said much about control mechanisms yet, although point and click is what the rest of the game is, so it should continue down that trend.
Anyway, I simply loathe WASD. it is too rough on my hand. And its too FPS for my taste. So if its up to me, give me point and click any day!

They are not exclusive. Several games allow both (WASD and point and click). I would go for both to make everybody happy :)

WSAD and arrow keys have pretty much become the standard of moving around in 3D game environments (besides 3D editing tools). And 99% of the time they give options to change your movement keys if WSAD and arrows aren't to your liking. I'm sure eve will keep the same standard.
.... unless we have to walk in stations like we currently do in space. that would be kinda clunky. Click target, approach within 0m, overheat right foot, activate swift kick to that arse.

It's an interesting matter, by the way. Point and click allows for more perfect animations as this is how our brains work ("go there" unlike "go, go, go, go, stop!"). But then rectangular coordinates (WASD or arrows) allow to control bearing and velocity althoguh animation is very rude (no acceleration and very specially no deceleration before stop).
Feeling cruel to developers, if we ought to get point-and-clikc animations, I would demand to be given different sets of body moves (fai: do you swing your arms fore and aft? Drag your feet or have a cat-like walking? What about women hips, how much do they swing...?)

That is something I can agree and live with! I just remember a time when SWG did its NGE back in...2004/05, when SOE decided to follow the fancy and made it WASD. I think the outcry still lingers in SOEs walls! And yes, that is one of a few reasons I left SWG and joined the point/click EVE.

I hope it's mouse driven, not WASD. Pre-NGE Star Wars Galaxies had the best such interface, right click drove your movement, it was very comfortable to use.
PS: Post-NGE SWG's UI should be outlawed by the Geneva Convention as illegal torture, don't imitate any of THAT...

From a design standpoint, it would make sense to default to point and click for ambulation movement. That is how movement is handled in the main (spaceship) portion of the game. New players already half the time don't read the starting tutorials and start mashing the WASD keys. Allowing them to use WASD when they start the game in Captain's Quarters would only confuse them more.
Ideally there should be options for both types of controls, depending on player preference.
I've played games that rely on both control schemes, and their usability almost always comes down to how well the controls and the environment are designed. Point and click requires good automatic pathfinding, good camera controls, and environments that do not have a lot of clutter. It seems to work best in third-person view, which is what I believe Incarna will involve. When implemented properly, point and click controls can allow for more natural animations and walking patterns, can prevent bumping since it's much more difficult to play avatar bumper carts using point and click, and can provide additional functionality. For example: Right Click > Approach Character, or Right-Click > Follow Character, or, clicking on a vending machine: Right Click > Get Drunk. At its worst, however, it can make a game unplayable.
WASD and other similar keyboard-based movement schemes can work equally well, and tend to be more difficult to botch, although anything is possible, of course. They are more familiar to most players, and allow for finer control of movement, although I doubt fine movement control will be required in what is probably going to be an animated chat and game room.

And this is why, six months from now, we'll be reading threads in this very forum about how CCP promised us WASD, point & click, OCZ NIA and qwerty based control over our characters with bendable limbs into any pose, a coffee machine in the Captain's Quarters and the ability to link the music played to your iCrap.
However, I will admit to feeling a certain admiration for the type of person that has "How will unreleased, undated feature be controlled" so high on their priority list that they'd create a new thread just about that.

Teen rating, you can't be drunk teens might learn how to be drunk after all ! Why won't anyone think of the children.
To topic I hope they have mouse click + arrows with numpad for moving camera around you (no automatic camera turning with you) and use mouse only for menus and selecting actions. That would teach you mouse look + WASD pampered kids, how real men played their MMO's.

Also, will corpses look like Incarna characters? So your actual character gets jettisoned from your exploding pod.. and you see it struggling and twitching in vain as it dies?
It would be H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news (and lolrp lore) but the cloning technology flash fries your brain the instant the pod breaches, your death is quick and what i can only assume mostly painless.

every time you get into a new clone you'll have a screen pop up with a > and have to type
Load "<insert character name>",8,1
It will then take over 20 minutes while it carefully attempts to start up the cassett.. at the 30 minute mark you'll be asked to turn the cassett over.. and then get a flashy screen for the next 30 minutes.. then finally you'll get into the station and the moment you move it'll ask you to please insert cassett two and press play...
You'll do that only to get 'Syntex Error on Line 52191"
So you type list 52191 only to get 'Gosub 219102'
;)
Those where the days.
Honestly though based on what was shown ages back i'm guessing it's point and click with wasd based controls as well there was the fanfest one years back where a certain person walked around the captains quarters then changed clothing only to urm.. oh thats right.. have half his character vanish. - Juil Intergrated Information Services Information is Power

If distance is shorter then 10 m: Right click > Approach: Bar
If distance is greater then or equal to 10 m: Right click > Align to: Bar > Warp
If female in bar: Right click > Lock target (female) > Orbit female at distance (0,5 m) > Warp scramble
If females brothers at bar: Buy incurence, Right click > Lock target (female) > Load Wrath Cruise Missile > suicide gank and hope you get past her hull untill the brother show up and ruin the fun

I think this is a very viable approach to the theme.

Whatever the control scheme, I hope to god it isn't awkward to use like some MMO's out there. Point and click is terrible, simple WASD/ESDF + Mouse would be nice.
I could see it being like a Third Person Shooter, but once you click on something with the crosshair or whatever, it'll switch to a normal movable mouse cursor and whatnot for you to interact with menus. --- The ≡v≡ Online Forums: where all the kiddies go to whine.

It is the game/graphical engine for another game, so I'd imagine it will be WASD and mouse controlled

Point and click is garbage for interior structures travel.
It destroys any chance for decent camera work.
