Being as I've never even seen a titan or know how they are used in combat. I was wondering what are the standard skills i need to fly it? Are doomsdays devices even used anymore?

Edited by: sableye on 24/02/2011 22:01:09 well you at least need titan level 1 and if you have never seen one I'd concentrate on something else first.

Just out of curiosity, if you've never even seen a titan and have no idea what their role in fleet is, why are you training to fly one? ------------------------------------------------ Quafe is people! Welcome to eve where your sensibilities are a liability |

I've been next to a few titans in my time...they're massive lol. Here's what I know:
The doomsday device is no longer a large area of affect. It's now a single, concentrated burst dirrected at a specific target. In one shot, it produces enough DPS to take out a (poorly tanked) carrier. However, there is a long time recharge rate on the weapon (I think you can only use it once an hour) so other then pos/station bashing and large cap fleet battles. The Titan rarely gets deployed in regular combat.
However, there is a HUGE role the titans play. And that's being a mobile jump bridge. Lets say you have a 50 man sub-cap fleet. You know the enemy fleet is a few jumps out, but you dont know where. You send in a scout fitted with a Cyno. Once the scout finds the enemy fleet and activates the cyno, the Titan can jump the entire friendly fleet to the scout, just as if it where a jump bridge.
also, like many cap ships, the Titan has a docking bay in it allowing it to store ships for future/emergency needs.

Edited by: trademeyourmoneys on 24/02/2011 22:22:20 titan skill/doomsday operation/jump portal generator/capital guns. @ level 4 minimum
Then ofcourse jump calibration/fuel conservation as support skills.
Also good tank skills/gunnery helps ofcourse :)
but if you have to ask this and havent seen one/dont know the mechanics i wouldnt advise rushing into it as its very skill/isk intensive.

Yeah, you'll be looking at almost 7B (or so) in skillbooks and more than half a year of training just to fly it hardly fitted.
