CCP spent some time programming avatars and are now shoving it in your face at all available opportunitys. Down to the point of impacting negativly on lag and user resources. BUT ITS PRETTYU!
CCP are like your mate who gets a couple of tattos of "indiginous/celtic/japanese bands" around his arm and leg, and then insist on walking around EVERYWHERE in shorts whatever the weather, holding his pint "just so" to dispaly the tatto in the right light whilst taking sneaky glances at himself in the reflection in the pub window.
You can keep your tats and you can keep your evegate.

That aside, I hope the history of posts within the outgoing forums will be preserved.
Both issues should be simple enough to address. Make font size and avatar size a user setting and write a simple script to take an SQL dump from one forum and migrate it into the right fields on the other. It takes a little bit of work and some testing, but if they're familiar with the forum software at all, it could be done and tested in a couple days.
Ahahahahaha. Surely you jest, good sir.
I'm making the assumption that they might have written their own forum software, but that may not be the case. A decade ago, I needed forum software to cater to about 100,000 members of my site with busy forums and didn't like the options out there. Too complex, yet not featured enough. It wouldn't be fun picking through them and understanding how the 94 tables and 400 fields are related. Plus, none of them really offered threaded conversations (I don't understand why this is missing in so many forums?!) -- so I wrote something from scratch. It was a little bit of work, but the benefit was that it fit in perfectly with the site (I hate sites that make you create a separate account to log into their forums) and I could manipulate the data however I wanted and port it elsewhere with a simple shell script, when necessary.
I'm a little worried that they're just putting a pretty CCP/EVE style theme on PHPBB or InfoBBS or something. *sigh*
The current forums are something they threw together quickly half a decade ago in-house; it's archaic and mostly unknown to them these days, hence the lack of Search Feature and them making "new" forums.
Believe it or not, the new forums are also supposedly in-house-developed. It's not phpbb/infobbs or anything at the core at all. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Seriously, what the HELL is it with CCP and small text? We live in a time of 2560x1600 resolutions on 30" monitors and you're displaying main content in and out of game in "fine-print". Good grief.

Try logging in to the "Test-Server" version of Eve Gate, here: http://test.evegate.com/ and select a character. Selecting the character is an important part of this that is easy to overlook.
Wrong Password/Username error, whut?
You have either recently changes your account password, and the "Test-Server" data set is still using your old information, or your account is new, and it does not exist on the current "Test-Server" build, at which point there is really nothing that can be done. It is also possible that your account was Inactive, in which case you might want to go to this thread and ask for a reactivation on Sisi.
Simply use your older password.
Okay, i'm logged in there, what now?
Now click the "Forums" button beside the Evelopedia button. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

It's "hip". Everybody is using it and CCP "doesn't want to look like a dinosaur" so, they are using it too.

I like the bigger pictures, too bad the reply and edit buttons give error messages.
Also switching chracters is a lot more difficult on the new forum (in case I'd like to post with my main - yes I have one).

can you see a pattern here?
The new things don't work as well as the old ones?
Okay, the new forums might look better (even that's debatable with all the wasted space and grey-in-grey-in-dark-on-black) but have you tried actually using them? Most text formatting (eg size, color, code) not available, no "latest forum post" for a character ("error"), horrible speed (iow. "now you can lag on the forums too"), a lot of double posts (probably due to the performance issue) and lots of other issues.
It feels rushed, just to keep the deadline. And that's the pattern here: "good enough" instead of "really good".
Can't blame people if they don't fall for the poorly working, shiny stuff again and again and again.

I noticed that when I typed too fast the text started typing out like I was typing html code. I am not a good typist by any means but I was not hitting all those funky symbols when I was typing a post in the new forums.

We all know that they suck at coming up with their own web solution instead of purchasing standard solution.

Well I have to agree - it not only takes away valuable resources but there's plenty of excellently working examples out there already. Ones that even have polls!
But I guess the whole integration with EVEgate is one of the reasons they can't take standard solutions - those have to be adjusted as well so may just as well start from scratch. One could wonder what's the added value of EVEgate though, we still can't change our training queues in it for example.
