Yes before I start I am a n00b, I've just started playing thanks to a trial account, of which till now I've greatly enjoyed.
That was untill I was unfairly attacked by some idiot camping a warp gate.

What annoys me is that if it wan't for a stupid level 1 agent mission to go and destroy 2 rookie pirates I wouldn't have been there. I've lost a ship that took me days to buy, along with the many skills to fly it. Now I am back to the very beginning and I just don't know if I want to go on anymore, for gods sake A battleship vs a low level frigate is no match, pirate of not.

Ok can agree with u that perhaps a agent shouldn't send u to 0,4,,only think they does if u take em in 0,5 .. I'm I wrong ?
But the skills u should have if u bought a clone. Next time, skip that mission.

alicomb, it happens to us all..including the ones who podded u.
there is a warning that says it is dangerous when u enter 0.4 space and that you enter at your own risk. By selecting OK you signed away your life.
Don't complain, you were fair warned and have now become wiser, use it to your advantage.

But its just not fair. A battleship vs a small frigate with very low level weapons is absolutly no match. And yes is fair game and I do know not to go into low level systems.
I'm just really anrgy as there is nothing I can do about it.

ok, yes it sucks but 0.4 and below is supposed to be dangerous. Agents send you 2 security levels lower than your system. So :
a) get an agent in 0.7 and above b) find an agent in a system where there is no 0.4 within 5 jumps. only the occasional courier might take you in there. c) fit for speed.
Good luck, its not worth quitting over dude

A small frigate's very strength is it's speed and agility.
You could have warped away a million times until the torpedo got there, ofcourse you don't have these instincts just yet so it's understandable why you didn't, but you'll learn, it's really not all that hard.
Also, always make sure you got a good clone, and make sure that your ship is 100% insured. ------------------- :: finite horizon :: killboard ::

What fun is playing a game like this if there is no risk of dying somewhere? I mean think about it, generally speaking unless you're making only short hops, it can take hours to get from point "A" to point "B". Its boring enough as it is. I can't imagine how mind numbing it would be if I was guaranteed to make it no matter how far I traveled. Eve really is a great game, with a lot of different possibilites. Which is a good thing...its keeps thing fresh and alive. Don't let this bad experience taint your feelings towards Eve. You're just startin out, it won't take too long to get back up on top. 2 bits of advice tho...#1 always always ALWAYS have an updated clone, and #2 Always try to expect, the unexpected. There is no real "Safe" space. You could get killed in 1.0 empire space just as you did at that gate. Just a matter of how badly the other guy wants you dead and is willing to accept the guaranteed loss of his ship no matter how big and powerful it is. Well anyway, give it some real thought before you get all crazy and quit Eve.

Well it happens, and i see no podkill but frig kill. When someone(or more) is gate camping, he(they) attack everything that comes by.
Still there are 2 things that i don't understand: -How was he able to lock you fast enough -Why do you have heatsink fitted if you are using blasters

Gettin shot at when you're new to Eve is a disorienting experience I'm sure. The guy may have passive targeted poor Alicomb here, and with a couple mods and skills he would have had enough time get a target lock, scramble and whack him. Alicomb probably was taking his time to the gate in his "Fat Man", those things aren't generally too quick I don't think. So warping in 15km from the gate could take a little bit to get there.

This is not a question of fairness or being sportsman but of efficiency. Nothing personal. For now you have to live with it, but with the right training and guts you will be able to do a little revenge ____________________________________________________

you did see that big box pop saying 'you are now entering unsafe-sapce, etc, etc....', that means, you are entering un-safe space, and someone *gasp* might just shoot at you ohnoes!

Edited by: Bexxly on 31/01/2005 11:52:37 As a (small) positive, at least this happened when you stood to lose very little. It may have happened to your first battleship and cost you hundreds of millions.
Best advice is suck it up, learn from the experience and get yourself into a position where you kill them or force them to run like screaming children
If you enter any system where the sec rating is 0.4 or lower ALWAYS check local for nasty people and be ready to warp out first sign of trouble (Battleships, even with sensor boosters, take a fair amount of time to lock a frigate). Avoid agents that sit close to 0.4 space as they WILL send you into nasty systems.
If you need a little cash (and don't mind some help) to get you back on your feet, gimmie a shout. I woke up on the right side of the bed today
Edit: Rift was never a n00b it seems

Learning experience, EVE is not for the AFK. Ive been very lucky so far & my rampant paranoia helps alot.
When you jump, click on every ship check their angle & what there doing. Check local see if their chatting etc etc. & warp somewhere anywhere immediately.
Also Elec Warfare is your friend :D. Another small thing I learned from the first time I played was always have twice as much cash than you can afford to spend. The perversity of the Universe tends towards a maximum - O'Toole's Corollary of Finagle's Law |

BillyBob got me that way....
Never go see what the kids are laughing about..
Lost a loaded down interon V that way.....
And always expect the unexpected...
Lost a Moa on a agent mission due to pirate activity
If you set up for PVP you can survive any PVE encounter
As for ISK well its out in the belts go get some

Seconded, I don't have a PVE setup anymore and fight NPC rats like I would a person, warp scrambling them even though it's redundant and calling thier mum a ho in local.
To be honest player pirates exist and it makes the game and everyone gets podded now and again. It's no different from loosing your ship to an NPC pirate.
Rift you ever jumped into .4 on auto pilot? It doesn't tell you you're going into dangerous space.

It is unfortunate that you were killed so young, but remember, some people play as pirates and pirates do not live very long picking fights with stronger people.
If you are in a weak ship your are therfore a prime target for a pirate.
Of course if i saw you hunting cruddy mission rats in a low sec system, i would just web/scramble your ass and ask for 20k (not much but every little helps).
As a new player you are unlikely to have any good loot, and this way saves me ammo
Unfortunatly many just kill for kicks. We have all had it done (or attempted ) to us. I was lucky that when it first happened to me i had friends nearby, and the hunter provided me with my first ever heavy drone for free (which i spent the next 2 weeks training to use..ah the joys of noobness).
As it is, i am looking for a little frigate to fly tackler for me at the moment.Ill give ya 30% of ma' booty and teach you the ways of the honourable pirate. If its not for you, at least you will learn how pirates operate. Eve-mail me in-game. I have supped the milk of human kindness, and discovered i am lactose intolerant |

I see this alot, actually this message does NOT pop up if you have autopilot on, which is how many newer people get around. If you dont believe me, re-enable the popup box and check for yourself. I guess having to click "yes" at every gate would negate the benefit of autopilot.

Hehe, back in the beginning you didnt only have to worry about player rats in 0.4, you also had to deal with NPC rats scrambling you at the gate. Lost 2 Navitas that way.
If he was tanking the sentries then you should have been able to tell what was going down. If he wasn't, then you have the SLOWEST ship in Eve. It's a dangerous world out there, don't go afk through lower sec space. Heck, even high sec space can be dangerous. Make sure you check all the info of pilots in local, it could save your butt next time.
If going back to the beginning (7 days ago, being a trial account) is causing you to want to stop playing the game, you might want to seriously do so. The longer you stay in the game, the more you have to lose. And the reality of Eve is that you could quite possibly lose it all. This game doesn't cater well to ignorance. However as you go on, you get experience and it's less likely that you will lose everything.
